Hey Brods, Hear what you are saying on smaller meetings & smaller track days. But all those thru the gates on NZ Cup day you think most have an association with a horse? Also Jewels day? Or New Years Eve racing day at Auckland? Or those races at Alex in late Nov thru to Xmas in Dec at Alex? Or even when you see those rooms all FULL of people, that have been sold tables, eg Top of the Park, or Tasman Room etc. Iv seen and they look like mostly corporates or people getting together for a bit of random once off entertainment type thing or attending as a work group. In-fact I have had 2 different friends, on 2 different occasions go there with 2 different work groups. So maybe that might be the answer to target it to specific dates only and yes syndicate. Heck even the Lone Star Alex Park could have info on ownership visible to their customers. Those grass track meetings too. They have huge crowds. I was mainly meaning North tho, as that is the problem area. But all round be good to get horse numbers back up by more ownership. So what is the answer? This is the thread for ideas 😁

Saw a Green MP plans to draft a bill to put an end to dog racing in NZ. Yikes for the doggie folk.

You didn't mention it Sweet Lou filly. Oh yes. Looks great. Golly there are a quite a few 2y-os coming out now hey, which I guess is good 😁

Your funny Gamms hehe. This was the most funniest tho. Off topic briefly. Who else saw that 1 min video “Im not a cat” & thought it was incredibly funny? Im not a cat.

Another idea if clubs have given up interest, is hold a day in conjunction with a big race day meeting, eg NZ Cup or Jewels or those premier nites prior Xmas that get lots on-course. Or even grass track racing days. To have up on the big screen have a short ownership interest video to play & even over the loud speaker similar to how it announces 4 mins til tote closes. Could announce that people walking the rooms taking emails if anyone is interested. Or even could hold a meeting a couple of times in-between races, people get a lil bored in-between races, why not offer a 5-7 min video or something on ownership and options & get emails those that are interested. If clubs don't want to do it themselves could draw from a hat so its fair who gets the email contacts. Then the trainers take over once the emails have been given so for example each trainer gets 20 emails each to follow up on. And then the next time another trainer gets them & so on. I don't know just thinking since you potentially have your target market right there at the track. They came to the track for a reason. Saves on advertising costs too. I'm out of ideas now.
-
No I didn't see that. I will take a look tho, now you mentioned 😄 Im sure if it's a hint, you want me to switch you out for Lady La Salle or not lol.

There is a nice article on HRNZ Gamms about Aladdin, his sale - future & he had a wee break prior tonight. With yearling sales this weekend, wonder how much the Sweet Lou fillies will bring, in comparison to the weanling sale. Be interesting overall anyway. Only Eljay & I had fun guesses on how much the top lot would go for. I guessed $300k & Eljay guessed be a ph bidder. Do you have a guess?

Doesn’t Gavel House have a Gavel House Plus, so maybe could be called Mini Meeting Plus
-
Good thanks Gamms, she’s turning into a real beauty. Changing colour too a wee bit. No gelding fees, as it turns out. I’m not sticking up for anyone here, re-watched this race in slow motion & saw Matt D clearly striking the wheel of Krug, so was about to solely blame Herlihy. Then checked stripes report & it says, A further investigation was held into the incident and it was established that FRANCO RIOT had shifted up the track when Driver P Jeffries took hold to concede his position which resulted in Driver P Ferguson in turn having to take hold of MATT DAMON which then broke after contacting the sulky of KRUG So rewatched that & yes that did happen. Franco Riot went out up the track. I don’t know. Did seem a bit funky that no-one got a warning tho. Ill be rooting for Aladdin :-) Quite like Warlock too for the reason doesn’t seem to get alot of luck lately.

Thanks for all that info Eljay. Im online about to log off. Just some more thoughts. My suggestion is horses that are ready to run, or ready to go eg 6 weeks ish max away from racing. Could go get them from the South, oppose them being sold to Oz. (Oppose getting yearling or weanling from sales. its def a long time to wait, I know, playing the waiting game). Look at less expensive avenues, paying $5-20k for a horse oppose going to sale and getting a horse $20-80k. Also they wont have to carry the cost if they get 1 that is ready to run. Why have Auckland given up? Is it because of the dwindled interest as costs too high & no result & or wait too long to see horse race? This is a solution to that. Aim for the general public. Why not? What would they have to lose by trying? You have potential owners heading in thru the gates every race meeting. It would be as simple as a follow up email. Lower the costs for the horses. Don't go to the big expensive stables to train, its about fun to be involved not prestige, go to some of the smaller, less expensive stables. Add in incentives eg discount when the come to watch horse race and viewing in a special room. Stables don't have the benefit of public/people that could be causually directly/approached. Yes I saw that re Stonewall Stud, very smart and proactive of them. If you don't read the Herald would you know about that ad? Also much nicer to actually have 1 on 1 personal contact and talk to someone at the track in person, to make people feel comfortable & achievable. For me if I was involved in a club where horse numbers where down and long-term could see this as a potential problem. This would be the 1st thing I would trial. See what the interest is from the general public that are on-course. Hit those rooms that Auckland has the ones they sell tables to work functions and groups etc. If you are part of the general public going to races for a once off or twice off and you have no idea and have never heard of the North Islands Owners Asso, which I never have until you have mentioned now, how would you even know to go ask there? Thanks for the reply and info tho E 👍

Eljay brought up a valid point yesterday on low North numbers yesterday. So how is this solved? Any ideas put here. Could be rating changes ideas, or how to retain high class horses or increasing ownership ideas or whatever. Thought about this how to increase ownership and the 1 idea I came up with was for clubs to start being more proactive. Get say 2 people ages 25-35 walk the crowds (inside and outside) every race day. Every person thru that gate is a potential future owner. The 2 people asking, if people are interested in being involved in a horse. If yes or maybe, then a follow up email from the club. Including perhaps a video & also the benefits, eg 1. You could make friends, 2. You will be able to see your horse prior the race, 3. You will be invited into the special VIP (name of club) room to watch your horse race, 4. You will receive 10% off food/drink on race-days on course. 5. You get the entertainment of racing a horse, 6. You get the bragging rights to friends you own shares in a horse, etc. Put big efforts in on big race days too, eg Camb Jewels, how many potential owners will be coming thru gates? They just don't know they are a potential owner, not until you give them that potential option. Clubs could have 10 horses each with this strategy. And it brings a potential once off visitor potentially back on-course time and time again. Have a variety of options and different share options from 5% to 25%. Have horses that are ready to race soon eg 6 weeks away from time of sign up. Advise that if they chose to move out of ownership they need to give 4 weeks notice, then hopefully there is a waitlist & the next person on the list fills there spot. I know some clubs have a syndicate horse/s, think that might be from members & word of mouth. Not sure I have heard of them having people work the actual crowd on race-days too. Every race day. Just an idea 😁

Ok you can have 2, Night Watch got a 3rd & a 4th so far, but also you can have another Montana DJ, as Montana DJ started fav 1st up & got a 4th & sits 13th on list 👍 Also need to add Taupiri Wonder to list too. Trotsfan your 2 Always B Miki fillies got nice 1st & 2nd at workouts yesterday 😁 Couldn't chose so you get both 😁 1. American Beauty/Boobybec 1. Classy Operator/Hunts 2. Artisan/Mardy 2. Celtic Spirit/Gamms-Dunedin 3. Play Philly/Bloss 3. Casino Action/Davis 4. Anna Love/Bazzer 4. Executive Banner/Brods 5. Mitsi Gaynor/The Shu 5. Mr Ibiza/Dougie 6. Tick Tock Go/Whiplash 6. Talking about Orange & Box-seat only here in this post. Just FYI there's a segment from 27.35 mins - 32 mins on it, including another apology from Orange as he requested to go on Box-seat.

Yes that's what I would go for as an owner, strategy to race in a small field lol. More chance to win. Thats why I was like go for a Jnr drive race in North, but last race they got big numbers. I like 8-9 or max 10 at Camb and Alex. Too big otherwise. More chance for everyone entered to run in top 4. Much harder for most horses to win or place once they out the back of field with 12-13, Mid-race moving in a field of 12-13 is hard work from the back. But the overall point I think Eljay is making is the numbers down etc.
-
Have no idea either. Didn’t grass track always get big fields? When I see Oz has more horses, I think is that because they have more owners due to a bigger population pool to share the cost around eg, 5 mill compared to 24-25 mill to pay the bills = more horses = more races = more competitive there? I honestly don’t know that just a guess as to a potential contributing factor.

Haha yip u & Dunedin same sulky. Actually its given me an idea to double up for those that horses get bounced out, when the finalists are named, so everyone ends up with a runner in final. 1. American Beauty/Boobybec 1. Classy Operator/Hunts 2. Artisan/Mardy 2. Celtic Spirit/Gamms-Dunedin 3. Play Philly/Bloss 3. Casino Action/Davis 4. Anna Love/Bazzer 4. Executive Banner/Brods 5. Hey Eljay, Not disagreeing with you or anything. I posted a link to a Lincoln Farms article on another thread about a virus sweeping the North, maybe you missed it, here are some bits from it could be a contributor, also I guess with double up Camb/Auckland & low North numbers in general anyway. Not good tho hey. Lincoln Farms has fallen victim to a seasonal virus sweeping northern stables which threatens to impact on field sizes in the next couple of weeks. All three of Lincoln Farms’ two-year-olds who raced at Alexandra Park on Friday night came back with snot coming out their noses, Sugar Apple, Argyle and Major Grace all racing below expectations. And Lincoln Farms’ two runners at Cambridge on Sunday, Captain Nemo and Themightyserina, were scratched showing symptoms of the virus. Cambridge trainers, including Nicky Chilcott, Arna Donnelly and Matty White are also battling the virus which is rapidly spreading in a hot and dusty environment. Green says stable stars Copy That and American Dealer both have the virus and plans to trial them this week have been canned.

I could put you down with Gamms on Celtic Spirit, no reason why 1 horse can't have 2 peeps. Ill put you down as Dunedin tho, as got it Forbs is censored. Ill update a bit later so not constantly updating 👍😄 Mossdale Art tho got a nice 2nd & a 3rd so far. Ill give him to someone that isn't allocated a horse yet 👍
-
Opps forgot to include the 2 y-o trotters. There are a bunch more 2y-os trialing tomorrow at Add & Auks so more to come for those to be allocated a horse. (Trotsfan) I might change you out a bit later to an Always B Miki. 1. Highgrove/MarkyMark 2. Mr Love/Shad 3. La Dama/Basil 4. Night Watch/Roman 5. Tripod/TakuUmanga 6. Absolutely, looks like quite nice 1 😁 If anyone else has 1, they are specially following or know of, or have some type of affiliation with, I can change you too or add no probs. Its approx 3 months & 2 weeks to qualify. Added some more peeps in too 😁 1. American Beauty/Boobybec 1. Classy Operator/Hunts 2. Artisan/Mardy 2. Celtic Spirit/Gamms 3. Play Philly/Bloss 3. Thinking how fortunate we are to be having races as usual. Last years Jewels was canceled. Hoping the Jewels gets full crowds & a big success. The 2 y-os is still anyones game & there will be 2y-os yet to be introduced. Have given everyone I can think of who’s posted recently-ish a horse that’s currently in Top 12. There are still horses to come on scene so those that don’t have 1 will be given 1, as will those that make it into top 12, as it changes with racing. Brief bragging rights if your runner, starts to shine as the season goes by 😁 Just something fun/light hearted. Who is on the future Jewels winner & also place getters … ? Will they come from the top of list, middle or are they not currently even be on the list yet .. Will the 2 winners be from the North or the South . Time will tell. After the Jewels we can take a look back here & see 😁 1. American Beauty/Boobybec 1. Classy Operator/Hunts 2. Artisan/Mardy 2. Celtic Spirit/Gamms 3. Play Philly/Bloss 3. Casino Action/Davis 4. Wow Gamms, thx for sharing. Was thinking maybe Spitty, had Virus as Hunts said it was also in South. But then he starts tomorrow. So must’nt have. Will let Ludwig & owners have the thrill of following, as I have hit un-follow now. Do hope for connections sake, that he goes well. BUT will continue to follow wee SUGAR APPLE. Still no real idea who’s the emerging front runner for 2y-os yet …
