There you are Brods, I asked you these questions on another thread but maybe you didn’t see. Be fab to get answer to any or even PM me. Great to pick up knowledge. Even if its just 2-3 answers. Pretty please 😁 No probs if you prefer not to share. 1. Before you were restricted punter, did you bet on mainly gallops or harness? 2. Did you have a particular track you found was good to bet on if it was Harness? 3. Guessing you were really disciplined? & would only bet say once or twice a month & put $2k down ish per bet? 4. Was it mainly win bet or place? 5. Did you have any rules that you made? 6. Was there anything in particular you would look for?

https://www.lincolnfarms.co.nz/stories/snotty-noses-lay-low-lincoln-farms-team-virus-sweeping-northern-stables/ Wondered what happened to wee Sugar Apple in that last race. Here is an article that explains. A virus is sweeping the North.
-
Bloss seriously, in 1 sentence you say you are sick of me talking about it, then in another you ask a question on it. Similar to your other post above a question. Anyways Im going to post something else on another thread about Sugar Apple now & a virus sweeping the North, as I pointed out twice prior & now 3 times, I am over talking about it and moving on.
-
Hey Bloss, Why do 2 stories on this topic? Why not wait for all the info like Guerin did? You were the 1 that said Harness racing isn’t that interesting to general public. So why the need to give them step by step details 2 or 3 articles on same topic? In this case 2 so far, & looks like a 3rd could possibly be lined up. But honestly I’m over talking about this journo etc now. It is what it is.

Could change Brods username to Restricted Punter hehe. Just curious as this subject comes up a bit. Was wondering Brods before you were restricted punter, did you bet on mainly gallops or harness? Did you have a particular track you found was good to bet on if it was Harness? Guessing you were really disciplined & would only bet say once or twice a month & put $2k down ish per bet? Was it mainly win bet or place? Did you have any rules that you made? Was there anything in particular you would look for?

The impression I have got from the North younger ones is that they are wholesome. Of course, I have no idea if that is correct or not. Just seems that way to me. Good to hear there are some wholesome ones in South 😄
-
OMG that be like a Karrot.
-
No, I would love to. My favourite place in NZ is Queenstown. Love it there. Would like to see more of South tho.
-
Found it, its not far from Invercargill, and then further down Bluff. I know where it is now 😄
-
I missed this somehow. Lol, YES I was actually thinking, I don't even know where Winton is & was going to pull out the map (I'm guna check map right now for real) 😄 But then I think that about the South Island people would they know the smaller North towns .... All good 😄 Yes I noticed that re South is more prominent than North re Harness. Heard NZ Cup day is huge down there too. Had some mates from up here go to 2 years ago & they raved about it 😄

Agree re repeat the same story, 2 or 3 times. I find that PATHETIC. 1 story with full details should be sufficient. Looks like (altho not 100% sure) that female writer works at the same office as him in CHC The Press. Couldn't find the article you mean, think you are referring to one that was published 2 days ago & people have spoken about it already. Newmarket, I am not sticking up for those bad eggs, I have said those stories need to be told & exposed. In my opinion this journo has got something against the industry. What and why, who knows. Of course you are allowed your opinion which must be that you do not see that he does, which is fine 😄 Its starting to get draining talking about this journo & the repeat stories now.
-
Oh dear, is this the 1 you mean? Its by T Law. Its a bit more balanced. Why did they bother to do another article on the same subject yet again. Gosh I don't get it. At least this 1 mentions he was at a function night prior and gave reading compared to a motor car as a comparison & punishments etc. https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/racing/124174406/top-harness-racing-drivers-suspended-after-positive-alcohol-tests

You know I didn’t actually notice 2 others, Franco Santino & Flying Heathers One, that have been transferred out also, as I mainly look out for Sweet Lous. Seems like just scaling down a touch for whatever reason.

I have no idea. I have no idea on Winton track either, never knew it a fast 1, but yeah makes sense. I was thinking Manawatu, if they are after going for that token win. But it costs to get there & after todays run umm, yeah 🤔 For me, I just couldn’t put the emotional energy, time or financial cost to race a horse like Spitty, but everyone is different. Be like 5 starts chance ish to get a place or win otherwise not interested eeeck. Is that ruthless eeck …
-
Yeah he not getting a point for that tho, its still 2-1 MVB in lead. Can't get a point if its the same topic over and over.
-
Tots agree with you D, I didn’t want to be the 1 to say it eeck. If I was owner I'd have rage. Enough rage to be like no more.
-
Watched race, didn’t bet, but yeah he didn’t break, but no zip. Head scratcher after his last start, but as Galahs says maybe a bit quick for him. Oh dear.
-
I don't like writing negative things about people, drivers etc usually, so usually don't. After seeing this thread, I took at look at how he did overall on day. No win or minor placings & in most races most of his runners were well down the track eg last, 2nd last etc. I guess we can all be exposed to go thru good & rough patches. Can't be on A-game all the time. Hopefully moving forward he picks up his game & gets a re-newed good patch going 👍
-
Spitty wears like mask now, & ear-plugs locked in. Maybe the trick needed to stop him from breaking. With mask/plugs he would be an each way chance wouldn’t he? Not ideal at those odds tho actually betting, but for new connections each way chance to get a place or a win stake money for them.

Watched replay & was saying in head, "trail, trail", prob took 2-3 secs later before he looked for that option. That 2-3 secs cost not getting in as another horse then had time to kick up & hold him out of trail. In saying that, easy being able to watch & see exactly when gap appears & likely much harder than it looks to just suddenly start pulling the horse out to take trail when you are full ball ahead going for lead. They have won from 30 Jan - 5 Feb (1 week) approx AUD66k (NZD70K approx), & I think still have races to contest. How much has his main rivals won as a comparison in NZ? What a great experience it is for all involved. Creating memories 😊 Hope they don’t lose confidence. Can’t win them all & I believe had roles/draws been reversed with the winner then MM would of been the winner instead. Credit to the winner tho was their nite. Yes Ludwig, thats great. Its not just 1 or 2 articles they would be in, it would be a minimum of 3 on the same topic. Cause that is how that journo rolls.

Hunts, Spirit of St Lou has been transferred to J Dickie. So good news for North is they get an open-class pacer to help fill the void, as see Check-In has also been exported. Wonder why, nosey hey. Could be a variety of reasons ... maybe cause Jewels, is it messenger and another 4y-o race up North ... ? See G Anderson has a horse American Lightening or similar in soon, so def still around. Can'tfindabettorman got a nice 2nd Fri, was a Sweet Lou quinella in 2y-o boy race Addington 😄

100% agree, this needed to be presented & exposed. How many bad apples (trainers) would you say there are/were in industry 2020? Lets just say for argument sake there were 1/2 a dozen or a dozen. Counted approx 443 trainers 2020. Of bad apples based on argument sake that would be 1.35% if 6 & with 12 be 2.7% Wonder what percentage the general public would guessimate that percentage as being … 🤔

I spoke to 3 different people in past 3 weeks, who have lost their jobs, all different industries. 2 out of the 3 with degrees, & never been unemployed before. These are Covid times. People are struggling. I just feel for drivers that are hit with these big fines. Be great to strike a balance somehow. Ask for a review within your work environment and Nek Minnit its mainstream news with you name put to it. Shame.
-
PS - I'm not saying that I think there should be a review or not of it. I just felt like the article was needlessly thrown into public domain with an angle that was embarrassing & negative slant. Should of stayed private. So now it is out there, perhaps a more balanced article would be a good follow-up & not just about D Butcher, but others too. Fines & reasons why harness is coming down hard. Animal welfare etc. How much it's costing drivers, hitting their pockets. How they are finding it. How they are trying to change & working on improvement. A balanced account.
-
Hopefully a balanced story on new encourager (whip) rule is in pipeline. Felt like the MVB, 1 was a lil too negative against those that asked for review. These fines & stand downs are quite full on. Fines could amount to their whole days work. In North there is often only 1 day a week racing. I know Flight Centre used to dock pay out of commission if an agent made a mistake - surely they don’t do this anymore … That’s the only 1, I can think of where it comes from peoples pay. Does anyone know other jobs? Not putting down the new rule, just putting things into perspective. (I can see both sides).
