Most people in NZ do not even rehome there dogs. Look at the people with dogs on the list and than look at the total number of public trainers alone. It doesn't add up Now I do have my own personal opinion on the matter which I believe is irrelevant in these circumstances, but if anyone thinks this is the solution to rehoming more dogs, than you are crazy when only a small percentage of dogs on the gap list are Australian anyway. If the current regime were serious on the rehoming of dogs, they should look at limiting the amount of dogs bred per licensed person and per property to ensure the industry is sustainable into the future. We already have a gap tarif on imports and they have been limited in numbers. The few dogs that this will stop entering the country will be replaced by homebreds. Icepacking the muscle is the best solution. Every 8hrs first 2 or 3 days (depending on how bad it is), than 3x a day after until swelling and bruising has gone. Should take 2-3wks. You will want to keep the dogs muscle moving aswell. Stretches early on, than start to walk them for long distances after a week.

Used to give all our distance dogs a hard hit out up the 300m straight the day before putting them over 700 and had no issues. Over racing is an issue but if a strong distance dog can't handle a 520m race 2 days after a 650 or whatever it is, there's something wrong. Plus this is a rare occurrence anyway is it not?

You can't just charge them than lose the case, you need to build a case prior to charging and ensure your case is as strong as possible. This was always going to be a drawn out process. Considering the trailer structure is checked when going through a warrant. I have no doubt this would have been picked up if it went in for a warrant. This is complete negligence and highlights why unwarranted vehicles are dangerous. As far as injuries are concerned, a fractured hock takes time but I do not recall any of my dogs actually having any reoccurring issues after the 3 month recovery period. Prefer a hock to a tendant, muscle, or other more serious bone injury
