Found this a very interesting read posted up over on racecafe by AC Roberts (not my post) "The Letter the Informant will not publish. Long time greyhound breeder owner who runs a successful accounting practice , Tom Rodewald , has sent me thru a letter he has tried to get the Informant to publish. They I gather are showing no interest and this is not surprising in view of the facts contained within the letter. It seems the horse codes are not providing a subsidy to the greyhound codes rather it is the other way round. ! Tom letter reads Over recent months there have been a number of articles and letters to the editor dealing with racing industry distributions in The Informant. One claim made by your columnist Brian de Lore was that greyhound racing, he understood, was being subsidized by the thoroughbred code to the tune of $5m per annum. It has been a common thread in letters to the editor that thoroughbred racing does not receive the full benefit of earnings from the export of its product. Further it is being stated that Section 16 of the Racing Act is unfair on the thoroughbred code as it focuses industry distributions on domestic turnover share. Fact or Fallacy? Over the past few weeks I have trawled through publicly available information and also made the odd enquiry to try and ascertain the true position. From the publicly available information we can establish in the 2017 season that: 1. Section 16(3) of the Racing Act that requires racing industry funds to be distributed based on NZ domestic code turnover has not applied since 2011 and did not apply in 2017. 2. it appears that betting on greyhound racing via the NZ TAB was 20% of total racing turnover. 3. it appears the gross betting margin the NZ Racing Board earned on greyhound turnover exceeded that of harness racing. 4. the export turnover commission received by the NZ Racing Board on greyhound racing was approximately 31% of its total export income. 5. the greyhound code received only 16.1% of the distribution made under Section 16. 6. a quick calculation indicates if the racing industry distributed its turnover based on each code receiving its share of gross betting revenue and its actual export commission earnt the greyhound racing share of the pie would have grown by approximately $8.8m. It seems to me on figures published the thoroughbred export turnover percentage was well under 50% of the total racing turnover in the 2017 year. Allocating export turnover by each code on an actual basis would have disadvantaged the thoroughbred code. I worked it out to about 12k a year on a 50/50 deal. If a dog couldn't make that, i wouldn't want him/her in my kennel
-
Sounds about right
-
it depends, it wouldn't even equate to half of a trotter id say. Probably about $150-200 a week with all the vitamins, meat, kibble etc provided. Id be careful who you get to train your dogs though, some have training fees (and imo, at ridiculous costs. had a mate a few years ago whos bitch made 55K and he ended up owing the trainer money) while others tend to go 50-50.

Lazarus Sale: This will be interesting to follow

can you provide us where these facts come from? The pools dont seem to alter much? By this logic, we should scrap all the maiden races and only run group ones as group ones have more people punting on them than maidens -

Won like a champ -
Worst part is, licensed people have no power at all now. The NZGRA have made damn sure of this.

In my opinion, Yankiwi looks at problems the way the leaders in charge should. It is no secret that greyhound racing in NZ is in shambles. Its run by a corrupt pack of dogs whom have not done one thing for this industry. If you think what Yankiwi has said in the past is going to ruin greyhounds in NZ, than you are mistaken. Blind freddy could see the many issues in NZ greyhounds. I find Yankiwis posts great and backed by evidence. Sounds like you are the one holding a grudge ?

they are guest names I believe, not signed up users.

Lets not forget the pit full of dogs they must have along with the other breeders such as wales, cole, walsh have had in the past

First time over 645 today and breaks the track record. Will she follow in her mothers footsteps over the longer journey?
-
Isn't this boy a top dog. 5 years old and still able to break a track record
-
He took them to court I believe and won. Wonder if they had to repay him his fees
-
Isnt paddy a good dog? I still stand by what ive said and say hes not the fastest around but he surely is the toughest dog around
-
Its a local trifecta. Home advantage was very apparent in this series. Paddy blew them away.
-
Do not follow my tips ? Im tipping Natures gent to top the board now
-
First time i havent punted him for a while wins at decent odds ? Next time i write a dog off, put your whole weeks wages on it
-
I think its AC Roberts race to lose. Dyna Dave and Dyna Weslyn have seen the track, than he has Dyna Elwyn on top of those two.
-
Boy hes going terrible. I see hes 3kg lighter than he was when racing for Clark
-
24 dogs in 6 months is not too much. NZGRA should have gone in their and backed these findings. Certainly doesnt correspond with the number they were using a few years ago. instead, the nzgra let them do this willy nilly without any back bone what so ever. I have always said however that their should be a fund in place so that these dogs can be saved when they hurt themselves. Even if its $50 or $100 a race so that these dogs are saved.

Thought thee story on 3 news tonight was a bit of a joke.
-
Especially when Steve Clark has known habit of attacking other greyhound participants over the years for mis-grading, mis-nominating their dogs, and constantly complains if he thinks a dog hasn't re qualified before racing.

Apparently roberts is trialling dogs sunday aswell for the race at auckland.
