Used to give all our distance dogs a hard hit out up the 300m straight the day before putting them over 700 and had no issues.
Over racing is an issue but if a strong distance dog can't handle a 520m race 2 days after a 650 or whatever it is, there's something wrong. Plus this is a rare occurrence anyway is it not?
All nonnies do is get in the way of others and ruin other dogs. We've all had them but continuing to race a dog like this could be dangerous to others as we have seen in the past. If you honestly don't agree with this, than Maybe you know less about greyhounds than you think. I understand why you are standing up for the dog, does not make it right however.
You can't just charge them than lose the case, you need to build a case prior to charging and ensure your case is as strong as possible. This was always going to be a drawn out process.
Many charges in Australia were dropped/overturned due to the way the photos and videos were taken. I think gathering this extra evidence will help them in the next step alot more
You honestly want to hear my worse case scenario for this case. Everyone pictured and Lisa will be stood down for 1-5yrs and fined. Dogs will go under someone else's name and life continues on
Considering the trailer structure is checked when going through a warrant. I have no doubt this would have been picked up if it went in for a warrant. This is complete negligence and highlights why unwarranted vehicles are dangerous. I hope the riu pick up their game in this retrospect to ensure every trailer and vehicle has an up to date warranty to ensure every step has been taken to keep the animal safe
Sounds like an excuse to me. A bad one. How does one forget or not know when there trailer is needing a new warrant?
The facts are simple here: the trailer was illegally on the road without a warrant and dogs died due to the trailer being unfit. We obviously have very different outlooks on what over and beyond for animal welfare is
As far as injuries are concerned, a fractured hock takes time but I do not recall any of my dogs actually having any reoccurring issues after the 3 month recovery period. Prefer a hock to a tendant, muscle, or other more serious bone injury
It's the same tactics time and time again. They do not care about welfare.
The riu and grnz are just trying to save face and anyone who is up in arms about it or actually worries about animal welfare ends up losing there license.
As for a fine? Is that a joke? A dog died in an unwarranted trailer that most likely would not have passed the test. Yet another animal welfare issue where the ball has been dropped.
I've seen some nutters get rehomed. I've seen some mild dogs get put down. every dog should be given a chance. No ifs or buts about it. You find many dogs change after retiring. No matter how bad they are.
I for one do not think you should be putting down a dog for a fractured hock. One of the easiest injuries to bring a dog back from.
If an owner or trainer can't afford to save a dog, than they shouldn't be allowed to race. This is another welfare issue in my honest opinion and does not hold well for us. I had a few people during the cup heats actually ask me about the dog and we're horrified to hear it was put down
Absolutely disgusted with the connections of this dog. Only fractured a hock and you could not save him even after making and placing in several group one finals? What's worse is that they expect people to feel sorry for them? What a disgrace. This is why so many people have a bad view of this industry. If you can't even save and re home the good ones, what hope is there for the rest?
