  1. Great that Chief runs BOAY to enable people to discuss things racing! Firstly, no one is going to be breeding next year to $5k stallions so they can race in these $60k races! This will be a one off just to get rid of the Entain promised money, and HRNZ are doing this very well going by the many poor decisions bring made. Not sorry to state that we can have absolutely no confidence in the future of harness racing in this country if we believe that those making the decisions currently, have its best interests at heart!! No media beef up is going to help things, and there is no way on earth any successful business would be operating like this. Anyway, nothing anyone on BOAY can do or say that will stop this wasteful spending that will end poorly for harness racing in NZ! We need this committee formed ASAP and potentially take control of what is happening.
  2. Pleased you started the post Galah! Great that HRNZ are trying things and easy to pick faults in anything! Firstly this initiative is only possible due to the funds being gifted from Entain as it would not be possible from racing profits! The elephant in the room is just not being addressed and this is the problem. How many stallions are eligible for being under the $5k? Personally think it is going to be hard to fill these 12 races with horses that qualify in several of the categories? Seems a helluva big stake to be racing for and just seems like get rid of the Entain cash splash without any future forward gains? Spend it while we are getting it appears to be the attitude doesnt it?
  3. the consistently unfair standing starts over 2000metres continue! They need to either stop having them or get a starter who knows what he or she is doing? It is not professional and a poor indictment on harness racing! Anyone could start standing starts far better than what is happening. There were horses in a full blown run up prior to the tape being let go and he thinks that is fair? seriously?? HRNZ act now they have to be cleaned up or just have mobiles!
  4. Interesting, think the TAB may have learnt its lessen with Stonewall horses? They are opening them at unders to see what happens, and not to encourage! Race 7 at Addington Mandala, you would think was big unders? $2.80 for a standing start 2000m with unruly horse?
  5. Casino gamblers are exactly that! Gamblers and you can not win there long term! The NZ TAB is a gambling agency that has the monopoly on horse racing in NZ. They put up the odds for people to take and yet they have got no appetite for letting certain punters that want to take the TAB on with the odds offered! They advertise that they are concerned for those punters that are not good gamblers or can not afford to lose! Lol They encourage people to wager by offering bonus bets and bonus cash back and yet they also heavily restrict those that can afford to lose? Poor decision making and Flawed business plan and is coming home to roost! Can the committee turn things around?
  6. Gamma, great to see the TAB taking these larger bets, and not talking $1k @ $1.90! That is not a large bet in this day and age! TAB need to be encouraging the larger scale punters to offload, rather than restrict many! Yes they will suffer some losses but overall they have the advantage! The thing is it takes so many smaller scale punters to wager to get anywhere near the larger offloading punter!!z Why they do not utilise this is very hard to fathom?
  7. So why not let some of the restricted punters on for reasonable amounts to see if they can pluck $ off them? At the end of the day the odds are always in favour of the TAB? Where is their sporting spirit??
  8. Great that the TAB are advising us of these so called big bets. Some are not big bets when you compare it to the 40k last week! Not sure whether these big bets are coming from many different punters, but all I can say is there are some very poor punts being made! $13k On Music Mistress at $2.20 drawn 9 in that field was in my humble opinion to be not worth the risk whatsoever! Anyway not my money and the TAB will be happy to allow that punter on for what they want, whereas some other punters are left to battle to get what they can on! Come On TAB, play fair and if you are allowing some on for $13k or $40k, would be only fair to let all punters on for realistic amounts. Increase turnover and get the harness industry flourishing!
  9. Apologies for the typing, big fingers and not tanked up!
  10. Forbury, you are entitled to your opinions but personally think Brittany has actually makes pretty good comments on FNL! Surprised st how knowledgeable with the NZ product. Friday Night alive is a great initiative and well worth watching, with Greg and Brittany presenting. You dont have to agree with their tipping and if you were any good, you wouldve slready offloaded! Dont worry about what you consider are poor drives as you have no control over that whatsoever. There is plenty of money to be made at the moment if you put in the work, and best to put your efforts into that while we can!
  11. Wonder why there has never been any betting on pidgeon racing? Would be very low cost surely for the TAB? Probably not a great spectator sport but there would be a market for it?
  12. They out if luck there! People are becoming more and more aware of what is going on now, since the Covid scam!
  13. To be fair Chief, is anyone worried about obesity in the Western World? it is more a pandemic crisis than this Climate Change thing!
  14. Jason, Harness, Gallopers, Greyhounds? Is there anyone else who trains all 3 codes? There is always racing pigeons?
  15. If it is a legitimate bet then it just endorses once again just how ethically wrong the TAB acts! They wont let punters loyal to the NZ TAB for decades on go win a reasonable amount! However another punter who is know to them to be a very poor punter, they allow them the opportunity to lose another $40k? And yet they advertise that they are concerned for those that lose a lot of money? Concerned my xxxx, they are only there to protect the yield and their own salary.
  16. Brodie is one of many NZ punters that get treated very poorly compared to other punters! It is because of identifying myself that I am restricted as well as other restricted punters! Still very very hard to believe that they took this $40k bet on under the TAB’s current level of risk that they are showing?
  17. Does anyone actually believe that the TAB actually accepted a $40k bet on a Telfer horse to lose $80k? Personally have major doubts as it just does not align with the amount of risk that they are currently taking. Anything much over a $1000 loss and they are dropping odds so $40k loss?? Smells very fishy to Brodie!
  18. Nigel will bounce back no problem. Surprised he can be bothered getting back into training with what is looking like happening in a couple years ? Be interesting to see whether his previous owners are willing to go back?
  19. Who actually is that?
  20. Does anyone actually think that the lighting at Addington has improved since the new lights were installed? They werent happy with them when they were first installed, teething issues I suppose? But from watching on, there are still some issues with them where there is just too much variation of brightness, which you would have thought would have been easily rectified? A significant amount of money spent for what definitely appears to be inferior to what Addington Raceway had prior to the new install! Elektra King galloping almost certainly was from the dark shadow on the track!
  21. The hot favourite in the last race at Addington yesterday galloped badly and out of the race at about the 1500m! Tim Williams stated in the stipes report that the horse shied at water! Yes their was water on the inside of the track but watching the replay it doesnt seem possible that the horse wouldve seen the water as it was possibly too far away and down low? What appeared to happen was it shied at a very dark patch of shadow due to inconsistency of the new lighting that has been installed? Personally think the lighting is actually far more inconsistent and patchy than what was there before! Came at a very large cost and do people think it is any better than before
  22. Gamma, you say no big time punters? There are still some that want to wager larger amounts, but the TAB say NO!!! They have driven many people away from racing snd attending on course. Very few punters are going to meetings in Canterbury nowadays as there is not much at all to attract them! You can not get decent amounts on due to the AML limit of $1k that the NZ TAB has adopted, even though they are actually breaking the law by adopting this amount, and they know it! At the end of the day, if they think their policies are the correct ones then we will just have to wait and see! personally believe that there is going to be more personnel changes coming through after the Committee discusses what is going on!
  23. Gamma, no point burying our heads in the sand and believing that all is rosey with the future of harness racing in NZ! We are going to be in dire straights in under 3 years if not sooner unless we see the TAB and HRNZ wake up to what is currently happening! as we repeat, you just can not be running things the way they are and expect it to be financially successful! The money is great for owners and trainers at the moment but that is only due to the money being gifted by Entain, and we all know that is going go stop! Personally believe that the industry is not being managed well and that is clearly proven by Winnie needing this committee to be formed. Is Cambridge financially stuffed like Auckland is? I would say yes and yet HRNZ are very quiet on the topic. Anyway those from the sideline have no control over what is happening at the moment but it is our prerogative to question what is going on, despite what is coming out from HRNZ. At the end of the day, hopefully HRNZ is telling the truth about everything being positive for the industry, but wouldnt be betting into that one! Interesting times!
  24. Very negative Galah, but appears to be accurate unless David Branch can come out and state that what you are saying is totally false? I believe that we appear to have the wrong people making the decisions and to protect their careers, try to paint this rosey position! We need people who actually do care for the future of racing rather than there to collect a big salary. We apparently should all be very positive about the future but this is what is continuing to downgrade our once great harness industry. It is long overdue for those making these decisions to actually perform or walk and to tell us the truth if where we are at! So many poor business decisions have been made.
  25. Chris Wood is a galloping trainer but you are right he is from Cambridge. It can not be true surely, as Brad Steele advised us all that things were all positive? Most of the TAB tote pools tonight were shockingly small but that isnt any worry as turnover is increasing apparently?
