  1. Very interesting news release today by HRNZ stating that they have been advised by AllStars Stable that 9 of their horses may have suffered some sort of contamination on the way up to Cambridge for this weeks jewels! Betting on these races have had the fixed odds betting suspended! The horses that have been named are being swabbed, so this is could be very interesting if there is contamination.
  2. Hi Robert, you could well be right now that you say that! Probably got mixed up with Globe Bay! Jack Carmichael certainly was one of the best back then. It was surprising that he didn’t seem to continue to train much after retiring from driving, probably when he was about 65?
  3. Yes they were Mumbles. Think Great Adios was before Allakasam and Manawatu and the third one that was bracketed with them was “the ugly duckling” Manaroa, trained by Alan Harrison I beleive and they were often driven by Felix Newfield, who certainly wouldn’t get away with what he did when it can to the whip, held in the left hand!
  4. I wondered whether Jack Carmichael was still alive, as I hadn’t heard anything about him for a helluva long time. His nickname was “Hoagy” who I beleive was a famous singer a long time ago! Hoagy was an exceptional driver in his time which was when Maurice Holmes was the top driver. One of the best horses that he drove and may have trained was Jacquinot Bay! RIP Jack Carmichael you were a legend.
  5. Basil, I haven’t checked your no.s as busy overseas at the moment, but I will take it that you are right. I wasn’t counting the AllStars as they were always going to be there in there hoards, but take them Out and there seems to be a lot of N.I. Horses in there which isn’t surprising. At the end of the day all things being equal on a good sized track most of them would not compete that well against many of the S.I. Horses that haven’t gone up, due to what I previously said. Anyway I know you will disagree!
  6. Just had a very quick look through fields for next weeks Jewels day! The Thing that stands out like dogs bxxxx other than plenty of AllStars starters, is that there seems to be a heck of a lot of North Island based runners compared to previous years! What I did say a Few weeks ago was that a lot of South Island quAlified Horses wouldn’t be bothered going up to Cambridge for one race over 1609m, to just make up the numbers to run out of a place and stuff the horse. What I will do at some stage is count up the number, but I am sure Brodie is correct in that many that could’ve been there aren’t! I believe that owners and most trainers have woken up to the fact apart from the glory financially it isn’t worth it, and would be better having a saleable horse. What if it rains heavily next Saturday and the track is a bog, as it is JUne after all?????
  7. Kakama, so you are saying that if you were innocent of a crime, that you would just cop it on the chin and take it that you were guilty?
  8. Newmarket, I don’t consider that the Dunn’s are that stupid to give caffeine to any horse at Nelson just to win When as Happy says is easy to test for! However as it is so easy to show a positive for it, maybe just maybe it wasn’t given to the Dunn horses by the Dunn’s or employees?? Bearing in mind that as far as I am aware there is no 24 hour security keeping an eye on horses stables at Nelson!
  9. Not sure about that as have not required viagra as yet!
  10. Yes of course it is a banned substance Newmarket, but it is well known that trainers are using things that are improving a horses performance far more than caffeine that most humans are taking every day!!!!!! If Caffeine was such a performance enhancer then the people that drink 5 cups of coffee or 2litres of Coke per day should be pretty fast, or plenty of stamina in the sack! ! Wouldnt think that is the case with a lot of the people that I see at the dairies or coffee shops!!
  11. No university degree required to make statements I wouldn’t have thought!
  12. Congratulations to Blair Orange who is a good guy and also an extremely consistently good driver over many years. The interesting thing is that if Dexter was still driving for Michael House rather than Blair and he drove as well as Blair at Palmy, then Dexter would possibly be approx. 50 ahead of Blair!
  13. The Dunn’s had to plead guilty to the charges as the horses had the presence of Caffeine in their system, but that doesn’t mean that they were actually involved in giving the horses something with caffeine in it! Caffeine is an easy thing to test for apparently, so I personally give the Dunn’s a bit more credit than needing to administer caffeine at Nelson where they would normally win many races, and has it ever been proven that Caffeine would actually improve a standardbred horse’s ability to race better? It is common knowledge that some trainers have different means of improving a horses ability dramatically which is not illegal at the moment, however it is clearly giving trainers a helluva advantage over other trainers. It is not an even playing field out there and probably never will be!!
  14. Not sure Happy, only thing I can put it down to, but it is really racing out of its class, being a maiden against race winners, however they obviously think it is good enough to beat experienced race winners and the stake is very good.
  15. Possibly because it is the only non winner in the race?
  16. No I don’t think he is gay, I just think he is just having a bit of trouble with his sexuality! He also clearly has trouble with his wind by calling himself Fart Too Much!!
  17. Living Legend has been a real iron horse! He is no champion but he has done a pretty good job and probably raced as much as any other horse in NZ over the past few years. Gave one of the Westview Syndicate’s a lot of enjoyment until he was claimed by Mike Stratford who has won I think a couple of more races andanother where he was disqualified. Certainly a horse with a big heart and constitution.
  18. Yes it did go well, and showed that it will win races. Tuapeka Trick did look the winner though as he had been racing far better horses and ran great races as a 2 year old. Brother to Galactic Star who won a few here and now one of the very best in Australia. He is a promising 3 year old who is only going to get better! Well done to the Westview Syndicate and Nigel Armstrong who is doing a great job in bringing in new owners to harness racing with his syndicates!
  19. Hasn’t shown a lot on the track Happy, to be beating experienced horses who have actually won races and be so short is stupid but someone obviously thought there was value at 3.80 Bookies Are so risk that horses that can’t win they have at huge unders. Can’t see any real value at the moment as the fields are very even mostly, no point buying money!
  20. Mr Allen, turnover from Elite Customers is not as high as expected, because you are restricting the amount that Elite Customers are allowed to put on, not exactly rocket science
  21. Happy, I started a blog about Extreme Stride but didn’t realize that it had been backed in from opening at $3.80. Anyway 3.80 seems too short as well but someone obviously thought it was value do we will have to wait and see. It doesn’t take a lot of money nowadays to shorten the hell out of any fixed odds punt.
  22. The last race at Addington tomorrow Night at Addington has Extreme Stride at $2.70 Fixed Odds to win! This must be massive unders as he is only having his second start and is a 2year old racing against seasoned horses who have won between 1and 8 races. When it quAlified it went OK without being spectacular. It ran 4th first up at Rangiora and went ok again but up,against maidens and was well driven by Dexter Dunn as it saved a lot of ground on the home bend. It is a big ask and the Bookies has certainly kept it very safe, and yes a Cran Dalgety horse with Dex on it, but $2.70?????? Maybe “Brodie” will be left with egg on my face, but leave me out of it with those ridiculous odds!
  23. Shivaree, more than happy to be wrong then, So please explain why I never once received any rebates whatsoever into my account investing on fixed odds? Are you saying that fixed odds bettors that turn over huge turnover should all get rebates then? If you are I will be expecting mine to be backdated!
  24. So called Elite customers need to turnover a certain amount each month. However despite turning over substantial amounts in previous years, never once received any sort of rebate thru betting fixed odds! You need to be a losing punter to get anything from the NZ TAB! They love the losing punters, be a winning punter and they will try to shut you down!
  25. Hi Robert. No I would not have sold. The owners had a great time with the horse winning just about everything they could. The owners right to do what they want with the horse as he is still sound and certainly still a racing proposition. I personally would have raced on tilll Xmas then set the horse for a stud season next year as apart from the fact that I would feel a connection to the horse plus I think he was worth more as a stallion. Do we know how fertile Lazarus is though?????.
