Helluva risk betting early on the Jewels so far out. They may not even start, draws at Cambridge are important! You will probably get more on the day as well,on the Fixed Odds!
  2. There will be more punters prepared to offload at Addington 1950m than at Ashburton over the mile. Ashburton track is good for times but as a spectacle when you are oncourse is a bit average, as you are too far away seem there is the galloping track,on the outside. Think it is a good idea to,go to Addington as it will allow for fairer and better racing if over the 1950m.
  3. Richard was an extremely successful driver and trainer when at Kerrytownnand Racing has always been stronger in Canterbury than Auckland. You would think he would have cleaned up in Auckland going by his Canterbury record! For some strange reason he never did that well?....
  4. I personally don’t touch the Gallops, however I believe that it is harder now than ever to make money on the punt on harness. The TAB has changed things dramatically over the past couple of years or so! The tote odds are pretty hopeless when you have so many of the place divs being under $2 you aren’t going to make money. The fixed odds system was fair and reasonable when it first came in but has now become a miserablefest. Pathetic unders on opening and only lengthen out at the last moment so you have to be either oncourse or sitting at the TAB all night and that isn’t possible due to many closing earlier. Restrictions also play a major part and so it is hardly worth the effort nowadays. As I have said many times the bosses think that by restrictions and pathetic unders they get the yields up on harness! Yes it will but to the detriment of the industry as they are losing punters big time. Run a business like this and they will go broke.
  5. Probably give them a ring Hesi. Would be interesting to know what the harness turnover is doing especially the amount that are taking on fixed odds! Seems to be secret squirrel though. Sports betting is where they want the money punted on as that is there biggest income apparently and costs them next to nothing!
  6. This site has so much information that is worth reading. I note under Racing News the Racing Board produces the statistics for the amount of turnover annually for both oncourse betting and Fixed odds for,GALLOPSwhich is very interesting HOWEVER I have never seen the HARNESS TURNOVER for oncourse and fixed odds betting! Is this shown anywhere does anyone know or is it a secret? Would be very interesting to see these as I firmly believe that the TAB is heavily against punters investing on fixed odds harness wagering. The opening odds are now totally pathetic to what they used to be for harness and hardly any value on anything nowadays, and fellow punters that I have spoken to are saying the same thing! Many are not bothering now and I believe that the TAB are more than happy with situation as they are looking to continually improve the yield to the detriment of turnover. They are hoping that the Paddy Power investment is going to pay off big time but they need to have punters prepared to offload and the way they are going I wouldn’t count on it! Are others finding the odds getting more miserable especially the favourites when there are often 5 or 6 paying well under $2 for a place in big fields!
  7. So they definitely aren’t over the mile? Great!
  8. Announced today that the 2019 Jewels are going to be held at Addington rather than Ashburton. Wont be great if they race over 1609m as the starting point is an absolute shocker!!!! Hopefully someone will have enough brains and guts to amend the racing distance to 1950m! Field no.s will also need to be restricted to probably 10 if they are stupid enough to race over the mile. I am sure the racing and event will be a helluva lot better over the 1950m then the mile!
  9. Yes pretty sure Mr Van Der Looy passed away many years ago. Think Murray Rennie drove at Blenheim grass track racing last year or may have been this year as well, although probably not training nowadays as haven’t seen any of his horses.
  10. Portfolio, you are totally correct. The TAB is losing money on racing and are concentration on sports betting etc. and that is why they have joined PaadyPower! They want people punting on the flies on the wall and naming of royalty kids as it costs them next to nothing compared to racing costs!
  11. Geez Hesi, I wasn’t aware of the animosity that has been going on between Administrstors and some of the bloggers recently! Nkt too sure of the politics but I did notice the Harness Of Race Cafe had deteriorated significantly over the last few months due to several that had nothing to offer! One of the rogue participants that has chummed up with Administrator over there is now starting topics that “The Brodster” had already brought up. Suppose that is fine but your new site certainly appears to be picking up momentum, which is great. Some of the better posters have already come over and it would be good if other ones like HAPPY SUNRISE and SICKOPUNTER would post on here as they left the other site pretty pissed off by some of the nil posters that have appeared!
  12. Hesi, it is good to see that this site has started to take off! It is really great that the other administrator on the other site has stuck with the ones that were causing the trouble! Good to see gratitude for a blogger that contributed many articles that were worth discussing! Anyway, i hope he enjoys the articles that his rogue bloggers contribute in the future.
  13. It appears to be a time trial as you say no numbers but the horse on the outside is a galloping pacemaker.
  14. Newmarket, of course I rate myself, if you can’t rate yourself then who is going to apart from your partner? Yes I did wank on about the TAB, as they have a vendetta against anyone who shows that they can win money from them! They are in the business of gambling and should be prepared to take the good with the bad rather than just take take take by them! My opinion is that if I brought it up many times, then they may just need to look at their systems rather than driving many more punters away from punting!
  15. Hunter, don’t feel sorry for Brodie, he is able to cope with most things! One of my biggest disappointments in life is that I have been suspended for a couple of days by The administrator Scooby, for what I am not too sure? Apparently he thinks I am a Bignoter and called “The Brodster” a “Tosser” Very hurtful that was, and not too sure as to how he knows that I am a tosser? Anyway I think I need to leave that site alone as there are a rogue element on there that don’t want to debate any issue diplomatically and with fact, but just want to stir. The administrator I personally believe has lost the plot as well allowing several to railroad other people’s views, just because they can and the intelligent posters are being the ones suspended! Yes I can say things with tongue in cheek at times, but we all need some humour in our lives at times don’t we? Anyway, hopefully the semi intelligent will come across to here!
  16. I personally believe that amateurs should be given a bit more leniency than the so-called professionals who be paid. The amateurs consistently get treated harder than the pros! 3 months seems extremely harsh for what they didn’t do!
  17. Boxie, Yes there is betting on amateur driver harness racing nowadays. I also didn’t mean to say that the 2 drivers should have been put out, I meant they probably should have made a move before the bend. You see this all the time and yet nothing is said! Hammering the Amateurs is rubbish!
  18. I note that 2 amateur drivers John McDermoot and Sue Blake have had their AMATEUR licenses suspended for about 3 months yesterday at Rangiora. They lost their ability to drive on Raceday for 3 months due to them both not giving their horses the best chance by basically not hooking out at the 300 and 350 metres after they were having good runs in the running line. Yes agree that they probably should’ve gone, but 3 months? They are AMATEURS after all! The issue is that it once again seems extremely excessive and that there are POOR drives in every race that the so-called professionals are in! Nothing is ever said to those drivers in the Stipes reports! It is the poor AMATEURS that consistently seem to be getting hammered!
