Personally can not see why people bet on the tote, as the winning divs posted are not worth the effort, and it is showing in the tote pools on harness. Bot sure about gallops as I dont bother! The so called Bookies are not encouraging wagering as they are so risk averse! I would say the only thing that is going to keep the NZ TAB afloat in the future is the overseas racing and Sports Betting! There is no way in hell that they are covering costs from wagering for the amount of stake money that is being paid out and required to keep racing going in NZ! Yes, punters allowed to netting g as little as $20 on a bet is happening, so why bother! The Galaah is correct, as soon as certain punters put on a pathetic amount, the odds are slashed by around 25% at least. The punter is then not allowed to have another go at the reduced odds!!!!!! All this does is puts off other punters from betting on this horse!!! This undermines what the TAB should be doing in increasing turnover and enticing new punters to bet! However, if you were young and looking to bet into harness racing, I would question why they would if they were looking to be successful! TAB Bookies do not give a rats arse, as they are only looking to get their salary!

Turnover is down on the tote it is obvious looking at the tote figures on Trackside. Pools are pathetic, not sure how much is being bet on fixed odds? However the amountS they mention as big bets are not BIG BETS!!! Personally can not see Harness Racing blossoming in the future and I also do not see too much interest coming from future generations as there is not a living for many of our young ones!

How are you going to run a yearling sales when the max you are allowed is 100? Look at how many staff there are! Look at the catering staff no.s! Look at the staff associated with the vendors! Yes you are correct about costs of starting out and land costs! The economics of racing horses nowadays just do not add up and cost of living is sky rocketing under our totally incompetent bunch of losers in power at the moment. The yearling sales this year is going to be very interesting being run via online! Personally can not see good prices being achieved for the average horse to make it worthwhile breeding a horse to be profitable. Harness racing has got big headwinds at the moment going on. Most race meetings are running at a loss going by the amount of TAB turnover being insufficient to be able to pay the stake money. On course attendance continues to dwindle and interest certainly waning from established enthusiasts! It is only going to get worse with the draconian policies in place!

With owners, trainers, drivers and punters abandoning the Auckland area, they are certainly DOOMED!!

They dont have harness on the Washdyke grass track, not sure they ever raced on the grass at Timaru? They used to race on the Waterlea all weather in January after the Nelson 2 day meeting. Someone a few years ago decided to race on the grass at Blenheim for a bit of a change, but they do race on the allweather in June Winter meets!

More $ in renting out the boxes and track to others! If David And Catherine had been serious over the last decade then they wouldve been in the top 5 trainers in the country for wins without doubt!

Extremely talented horseman is Davey Butt and I am sure he was successful due to Catherine keeping things going as well. At the end of the day, training horses is a very hard way of making money, as it is a labour of love really! All the best to both of them in the future, well deserved semi retirement.

Can not have any sort of holiday at the moment! It isn’t the fact that the horse went out for a spell for 3 months but has not had a race in 3 months! They may well have not been out for a spell, it could’ve been in work but not working well enough to actually race! So the question needs to be asked why do they bother showing the fact that a horse has not actually raced for 3 months?

I note that Sundons Flyer is having its 75th start today since it had had a 3 month spell from racing ! this does seem a helluva lot of starts to be in work for without a reasonable spell! Would this be a record for a horse actually racing or is there others that would have even more. Bearing in mind Sundons Flyer has also travelled so much as well. Must have a very good constitution but also maybe needs a well deserved matrons paddock?
