Lazarus Sale: This will be interesting to follow
globederby12 replied to Happy Sunrise's topic in Trotting Chat
No, your personal opinion, nothing more ,nothing less. You must stop quoting your "opinion "as Gospel Brods. And correct there are some in our circles that appreciate good racing over the mile. Get used to it. -

By who??. Examples please. -
One has to ask who made that list in the first place. Probably someone like you and me ,with a personal bent. Maybe a more pertinent question would have been top 10, as the period covered encompasses a whole heap of great horses. Who knows. The whole thing is subjective ,apart from Cardigan Bay that is.

No offence Happy but CUF. He might have won umteen races on the trot as a youngster but he beat nothing ,and I mean NOTHING. (apart from Shakamaker.) He wouldnt be in my top ten let alone 5. It depends on what criteria we apply on a personal level. My 5 would be Lazarus. First pick straight up. He did it here ,he did it there. He beat the best of his era consistently and in fast times. Full stop. Yule Star. Worked his way up the grades to the top. One tough son of a Bitch, and still one of my favs. Armalight. Still think the best mare , world class pacer at her top. Christian Cullen. Unbelievable ability ,speed and stamina, and a shame we couldnt see him race longer. He might have set the bar very high indeed. Elsu. This was a toss up as Luxury Liner missed out. A pocket rocket with stamina to burn. The best little horse I ever watched. As we all know its all personal. -
Now the Cup is getting spiced up. For all those doomsayers out there who aren't happy unless we have a Cup field full of superstars, I say, pphhhh.

Pheobes Delight R4. Golden cross Bettors Delight/ CC mare, good 4th first up and part owned by M Guerin.
-
I'm with my mate Paul (Harewood) on this one. Chicago Bull is one tough customer. Ive watched him race in Perth and personally I think the bigger the track the better he will be. I've got my horse picked for the Cup ( eh Robert), but the Aussie could rip this one off quite easily.

Much like Mainzeal. Subbed out the work mostly. Worked on a few of those sites and they burnt out foreman as quick as they could find them. Rush,Rush,Rush. Quite a few firms in our region got caught with that debacle. You also get locked out of the site with all your tools and plant still on the work-site, and no way of retrieving it.

Yeah, the clerk of the course will be riding him. ?

It would be Dark Horse all the way for me if she was recovered but that isn't going to happen this year. So I totally agree Rangatira, Habibi Inter. Good horse on the up, went super at the Jewels, and a definite win chance.

Geese some hard taskmasters on here. The poor horse hasnt spent a lifetime running miles and being accustomed to the training regime associated with that. He comes out and runs 1.48 and change at a first up effort.!!. Regardless of early speed , which they should be able to improve, it beggars belief what this horse may be capable of ultimately after adapting to mile racing. Sit back and admire boys, you may be watching History being made. I bloody well hope so. -
I actually had a small wager on a horse in race 4. It had the drop on another horse barrier wise and both had finished close up on a 1.57 mile rate together in their previous racing. Last and second to last. Forbury. Yeeeesh.

Yep was always a chance in that field. $12 good money. Hope you got on for the win FU

Fine and dandy as long as Labour stay in Govt for another term and Winnie keeps this up, and things finally do happen. But !!!. What will National do with it.

Very poor defence by the Broncos. I'm not a Warriors fan but the club needs a lift and they do look top eight material for a change .

Hi Foyle in any other era would have been top dog. He was a very good horse but had to compete against Quinny at his best. Saw Stella run at Hurt Park. Wasnt Robin Dundee by Cardys sire, Hal Tryax. ? .
-
And Trevira was the horse that beat Young Quinn into second place at Quinnys first start back after comming back from the States, before going on to the Auckland Cup.
-
In regards to that, how can we not forget probably the 2nd best horse after the incomparable Cardigan Bay, that great horse Young Quinn, my all time favorite. There was a small magazine produced back then with potential winners based on breeding and trial form for both Gallops and Harness. He was given a large wrap in the mag and I backed him at his first start. He duly won , doing it tough, beating a touted youngster called Marc Bohan. The rest they say is history. Unbeatable on his day, and in 1975 won someting like 19 races including the Miracle Mile from the widest alley at Harold Park. He went on to compete succesfully against Americas best. And incredibly at 10 he competed in the Auckland Cup after only one lead up race after returning from the States and ran 4th. Have a look at the horses in that race and the mind boggles. He was something else. No one for mine has come close, including Lazarus.

Christen Me the 'Underachiever' (Shameful)
globederby12 replied to Happy Sunrise's topic in Trotting Chat
They have to live with their conscience one would hope. Providing they have one. I didn't disagree with them for selling, whatever the motives. It was their buisness not ours. It does come back to bite you in the arse eventually. The term "underacheiver " how ever ,really does rankle with me . Angry would be a fitting term. . -
Jack is at a reasonable price Robert, although a couple of points too short. Who the hell set Sheriffs price, because I would like to contact them. Whatever they are on would help me sleep better. Pats Delight dead set brained him off the trail at the Jewels, albeit a mile. Not a good look for two miles.
