I see there are 2 2yo racing at gore on Sunday. I know the trainer likes to have them up and going early but surely there should be some rule somewhere that states that 2yo can only trial up to X date and race on from that date after.

Still will be interesting to see how they match up because technically both are still technically under 2 years of age

You would hope it is a well reasoned decision to race them. Time will tell.

As a punter I'm actually more concerned you are allowed to have your first race as a standing start WITHOUT trialing or qualifying at a standing start.

Trotter or pacer surely must prove at least once it can't step away from a tape.

Another concern is both Clark's trotters are unruly for the race, not one workout or trail from a stand how does a steward asses this request from the trainer.

It's the state of NZ racing.  We are running out of horses to fill fields.

pretty much nailed it there chief

the club has programmed a race open to 2yo and older and the rule regarding 2yos is

(2)No two-year-old shall compete in any race:-

(a)the distance of which exceeds 2400 metres, before the first day of January; Was 2200 metres until about a year ago

(b)the distance of which exceeds 2700 metres

the trainer probably informed the club he has a couple ready to race, maybe not quite constar or the fiery ginga but race horses none the less

Both are by Peak.   He leaves horses with talent, but they seem very highly strung and extremely poor mannered  when starting off. He will be beating the odds if either of them gets around without galloping.  Will be an interesting watch.

Race 2 tomorrow night. This time a mobile.Ear plugs come off the one that galloped a bit last start, crown range.  The other, muscle power has no ear pugs as well. Will both gallop this time. I think a safe bet. Always adds interest when he lines them up.

Steady on, there may be a fiery ginga amongst them, wasn't he a very good horse.

Poor old boy only had one good leg left when he broke down at the trials 4 or 5 years ago, not sure if they managed to save him or not. He was certainly a talented trotter.

Fiery Ginga, forgot about him, man he was a tough old bugger. Think he was involved in a pretty horrific motor vehicle accident as a youngster on his way to the races in the truck one day.

Hopefully one day both of them will be, but at the moment, 46.9L and 60.9L says these babies still have a way to go, especially in manners.

Time my be their friend, as with many a trotter, its wether its the trainers friend will be the leading question.

Tough ask on young horses, especially when at that young age a lot are not physically or mentally ready for the track, fingers crossed that a 5yr old thoroughbred that I have a interest in can get to the races at some stage, been very patient, but it is a virtue, and I know if he does make it he will have being given every possible show, the rest will be up to him.
