Are Riccarton Jockeys Not Too Bright?

A few years back at Riccarton, winter time, jockeys used to go to the inside in straight, seldom winning as fast strip was out wide. 
 

Now, good strip on inside, now majority go wide???. 
Well done to the smart riders the won on the inside today, others should watch the replays for next meeting.

My thoughts exactly, surprisingly for most its follow the leader, as we seen who dares wins, no pun,but just seems to me most follow the crowd and those who try otherwise seem to be rewarded, have always struggled to understand their thinking, as we all know the shortest way home, and just how much ground can be saved, and how much is lost by drifting wide.

The rail was out, so the 'inside' strip was actually the middle of the track....which is often the best portion.

Dont assume that a blueprint can be followed for future use....the track was a glue pot yesterday, quite different from the sludge of the first day back and conditions vary markedly from day to day.  It's just trial and error when rain affected.

The rider on your Nathan gave the others a masterclass me thinks, but the track stinks, and that Mills bloke masquerading as a manager couldn't manage David Beckham. You're just meant to rock up and hope the track races ok, that's honkey dory as long as you're an attrition trainer, God help the rest.....oh, and the pro punter if there are any left.

Tina is a quality rider, but there have been plenty of others, who, over time, have tried the inside when track conditions are testing.

Sometimes it works, sometimes not...but Riccarton isn't the only track where there can be a charge for the outside.

My peeve at the moment is not the track, but the average performance from the barrier staff [of which I am normally very supportive ] which led to my little mare being placed on a 'warning' for her barrier manners through no fault of her own.

Not exactly...Rick Donnelly, who is the assistant starter,  has been covering for Kevin Ogden who is off injured.

I agree, the starting seemed to be a chapter of mismanagement all day. 

I've always thought Rick does a better job.. .although there was the Hokitika number debacle come to think of it...

Yes, but quite clearly outside was no advantage on the day. 
Quite the opposite at Auckland, had no chance unless you had outside strip. 
 

Rosehill yesterday, they won from everywhere on a wet track, so how do you give nz punters confidence punting on nz tracks? Quite simply, they dont. Thats why so many punters do not punt on nz racing

Dont forget, we are upgrading  selected tracks with all the dosh realised from selling the others.

Saundry was a dud here, he's a dud there, he's a serial dud.......the bloke who hired him was and is a dud still so it proved you lot were well and truly dudded. With a dud government you can punt them at the ballot box, this lot it appears have tenure of employment and therein lays your major problem.

Until accountability is accepted and policed this behaviour will continue.

By that comment, it would appear you reside in Australia.

Whilst I am no fan of this government, it would pay to remember that Australia has had a succession of dud governments for 15 yrs with a number of PM changes & spiralling Govt debt.

Its time of being labelled the lucky country is waning.

Doesn't seem to have affected their racing that much.

You've obviously misread my intent, I was using punting a gov as an analogy? an election, a democratic way to change things.....that can't happen in NZ Racing as they have tenure of employment, and how did that happen? If anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.

Of course we have had terrible governments here, most countries have, but our racing in general is run openly [especially NSW] and transparently, QLD is an exception, but we are on to the bastards, just read www.peterprofit.com. Whilst Archie has a colourful past, he is married to a Kiwi and spent a lot of time there, but here is a stirrer of renown, not always right, but he can pick a rort a mile off, and let's face it, this bullshit cover up masquerading as an EOFY report. should bring them all down, creative accountants inc....IMO.

They have the POP & interest in Racing.

NZers have moved on from Racing, unfortunately our regulatory past has killed our interest in the sport.

Our 3 traditionals are dying, Rugby, Racing & Beer.

Racing in NZ is irrecoverable, its a terrible borefest. Not just in tracks, surfaces, personalities, but even the way we bet on it is boring. 

NZers are simpletons when it comes to gambling and we love pokies, lotto, instant kiwis, casinos, most of which are non thinking gambling.

Wander onto a race track in Aus & you will see a different type of punter compared to what you will see in NZ, therein rests our problem.

Probably not as we would have to import some Australians to create a new hybrid.  At the moment we can't do that.

Hell yes, the problem is there are many in the industry who are happy with how we do things or are resistent to change which is why we will never be able to do it.
