It continues today, first 7 races won by leader or trail horse.
Now, come on. With these constant stats, WTF are drivers doing? They have little chance running home from the back, but why do we have no pressure early? These drivers should be getting handy early, should be speed duels galore, but what happens, drivers settle into line, know the winner a lap out 😴

exactly,  didnt even bother betting today, considering the gallops, be better than this boring front running shite!

good drive by craig thornley, wonder if that gets him off `retarded drivers `  worst drivers list!

I was at Methven races,went to watch and back 2 horses.A winner and an also ran.We were parked in car park and watched all but one  race at the 250m mark and every race you could see most of the field struggling to make any head way.A definite bias at that track now,ever since they shortened straight which has also made the final bend sharper.Was same pattern of racing there 2 weeks ago too

And then Ben wins last at Jessica 3rd

And absolutely Cracking Drive by Ben Hope in the feature Group3 trot at Addington last Friday with MUSCLE MOUNTAIN as well.

The young fellow is going ahead in leaps and bounds , and getting the rewards for pro-active driving.

I agree,e is becoming a very good driver.I was probably his biggest critic when he started but from what I have heard he has been working with Ricky May to improve his decision making

Yeah, having arrived at 1100 hours (don't ask why!) and then watched every race from about the 150, we were all asking the same question. Because being on the rails seemed to be just as important as being handy, I can only assume that drivers in the running line but in the back half of the field decided they were on a hiding to nothing and so decided to depend on dumb luck. Understandable perhaps (damned if you do, damned if you don't), but I agree it makes for very boring racing.

Other observations on the day:

• 25 minute gaps between races was excellent, so many bouquets to who ever decided on that;

• Methven facilities are pretty spartan these days, which is ok, but the lack of any substitute for the demolished public grandstand makes it a challenging watching course (down at the fence, there are lots of blind spots);

• the experts who claim we're in a child obesity crisis would have had their eyes popping out of their heads at the sight of the Kidz Kartz — I swear some of the drivers looked heavier than their horses!

It’s ok Jacinda thinks that climate change is more of an emergency than the fact that our population is generally grossly overweight.

he was hugging the rail alot over the grass meetings and saving alot of ground. it seemed like he had a definite driving plan for the grass tracks, drove rocktommy rulz well also,

  definitely cautious on the whip rule though!   (no need to chuck it away tho! lol!) not like Kirsten barclay on watch me now!  thought she might actually take off she was waving her hands so much but the horse needed it and she got the chockies!!!  Noice!!!

Boring Methven or boring harness in general?

Majority of our winners now come from on the speed irrelevant of where races are being held.

You'll always get exceptions to the rule. Aveross Majesty being one yesterday. But largely in a huge percentage of races around the country are won by horses in the first four turning for home.

Why? Because the tempos of races has changed significantly in the last 10 years and you now need to be that much better to come from anywhere further back than four or five lengths off the speed.

He drove good today, first race was a gem. Sadly, last race he won, still gawking around, lost his whip past the post?
For gods sake, sit still and look ahead, no need to look behind after the post.

Doesn't matter where he looks or if he throws the whip away after the post. The Johnny eyre win must have been a satisfying win for him as he had made a couple of below average tactical decisions on his previous 2 drives on the horse. But that was then,yesterday was victory.

I don't agree with the suggestion Methven racing is becoming boring. Sure,being on the fence is a big plus,and i'm not sure how they negate that other than maybe shortening the grass overall,but i'm no expert on that subject.

The performance of the day i thought  came from aveross majesty. J young-grant certainly took a calculated gamble by staying on the fence,but to make up 8 lengths   in the last 300m was a great effort.

And of course  the johnny eyre win came in a race where there was a lot of excitement mid race. And to see Ben hope drop the whip after the finish after every move he made turned to gold was somehow entertaining as well.

The only thing i would like to see  change was maybe a 3000m race for the grade of trotters whose race  aveross majesty won. Having a big field like that walking round right next to the public pre race just adds a bit more atmosphere to those that attended. I think people like to get up and personal with the horses,drivers and starters more than we realise.

Second highest obesity rates in the world. Second highest increase in emissions in the world despite climate change being our "nuclear-free moment". Isn't she doing a grand job.

Maybe all the people sitting on their arsehole all day and not exercising is a reason for obesity 🤫
