Doomed
Is that intentional on Saturday night? Six shitty little fields for big stakes. Could they not get enough horses for ten races? Fancy running a race for 3 starters on a six race card.

Not a single race worth having a go in! 3 horse race and all from the South Island, so why bother running it at Auckland? Auckland is Doomed, Doomed I say!!

Chief Stipe
Isn't Harness Racing in the North Island on a knife edge fullstop? Is it a horse number problem in general in the North Island or poor programming and handicapping like the Thoroughbreds?

I think Auckland should get in the good folk from Kurow and Reefton and ask them the secret of their success. And it's not more corporate high flyer events.
Doomed
While we are being critical of Auckland we should also note that Addington Friday is not a lot better. 5 and 6 horse fields for $20,000 and only 8 in the $17,500 race for horses coming through the grades. I can never understand where the horses disappear to in the trots. They run so many maidens and 1 to 2 win races (I don't understand their strange rating system where winners can be rated lower than maidens and run for lower stakes) and then the winners seem to disappear and they never have enough horses for 4,5,6 win type races.

They are sold overseas . There is no money in racing horses in NZ unless it can win a group type race. We know unless you are in the AllStars colours you are pushing shite uphill mainly. The costs to breed a horse is far too expensive. The cost of having a horse trained plus associated costs just make it financially impractical to race a horse compared to the stake money .
Ludwig
Time was eventually called on Forbury, rather than prolong the agony . Let's hope any decisions re Alex Park are made promptly and sensibly. I don't think I could handle another ludicrous thread with ideas such as turning Alex Park into a circus or sideshow of gimmicky carnival acts

A lot of people involved in a sport , Expect it to cost them money , Many don't care about the Cost all the time and use their Disposable income to enjoy a FANTASTIC sport, and Indulge in their passion, and Love of Horses. I did. 2 hours ago, Brodie said: The costs to breed a horse is far too expensive In the 80's Dave Jessop stood a good stallion at $500 . Suddenly little Vance Hanover's were everywhere !! 100's of em , restocking the depleted horse numbers , and anyone could breed a nice horse cheaply. re-visit a saturation approach would help in both those areas again. get some cheap foals about the place. 2 hours ago, Brodie said: The cost of having a horse trained plus associated costs just make it financially impractical to race a horse compared to the stake money Most people that race horses , do it for the LOVE of it, and the thrill of the win , and the tradition. Costs are down when you have partners and shares . I would say ALMOST NONE cared about the stakemoney that I dealt with in 15 years. They loved/love seeing their horse race. They love horses. Quite prepared to spend a few dollars to 'Support' their hobby. I raced many in shares and it was a very Affordable option. The people racing horses generally HAVE INCOME from something else. thankfully still plenty of kiwi and oz folk getting a share in a horse , and having a great time!!!!, and pop a few dollars on it if they feel like , without trying to break the tote. (optional extra lol ...) Edited February 10, 2022 by Gammalite

I won't be having a bet but I will be watching. There's some great horses on display... Sundee's Son, Bolt For Brilliance, Akuta, Franco Indie, Southwind Ardern and lightly raced NZ Cup winner Self Assured. And there's True Fantasy, the next Amazing Dream. I think the two year old C&G could spring an upset. Merlin looks the one, but strange things can happen in a two year old race. There could be an upset but picking what the upsetter will be is hard. I agree with you about the two year old trotters race. It should be held at Addington where at least probably get eight starters, James Gameson has a couple of two years old racing well that would probably start, Purdon is likely to have others that he would start not far from home? It's going to be a great nights harnessracing but only to watch. I am looking forward to it.
Doomed
Was it intentionally designed to be only 6 races, trying to copy the Karaka thing? Seems high risk when many of the races aren't betting options.
Spatchcock
It was designed and programmed for six races by NZB in conjunction with HRNZ. It's the night before the sales kick off. Same as the gallops thing. The 3-horse race is a pay-in race... the stake is irrelevant to the turnover in this case.

NOTE, looks like the weather is gunna be wet, Auckland just ain't having a great trot in anything at the moment, 3 horse fields, well there is a dollar in it for the owners, even if your horse breaks hopelessly just carry it over the line to get ya stakemoney, easy peasy.

(or close to it) I loaded my 6 race pick the card multi into Sportsbet (SundeeSon,Highgrove,TrueFantasy,Merlin,FrancoIndie,SelfAssured) and it said 5-1 . pick 6 winners , get $4 profit. That must be the smallest ever ?? I deleted it (5-1 offer) and just gunna watch races like yourself. 4 of the very best horses in the country listed above going around too .( And Self Assured as you said as well ) It's quite hard to believe you can't get a bet on any race ?. Trifecta's not even worth it....... Don't think I've ever abandoned a whole card before? . sign of the times. beautiful horses though. Might just have 100 on 'Caulfield' tonight at Waikato instead and be done with lol.

Brodie
Watched the first 3 races and I can confirm the racing is even worse than I thought it might be! What a waste of stake money for this type of racing, seriously! Good luck to everyone involved in the yearling sales this year!

Well Scotty was 2nd with Silver medal in the halfpipe, just as Sundees Son was only 2nd tonight as well to Bolt for Brilliance. Am sure we will see Sundee back in the winner's circle soon. ..... Another Aucklander just won at Menangle NSW a minute ago. John and Trish Greens nice mare,THE HONEY QUEEN. first up for McCarthy has won easily at just $1.75 odds. (BE MY ROSE of Katrina and Barry Purdons ran 4th) Soon won't be enough horses left there for a race field at Auckland ? seem like small ones tonight at Alex Park.
