Chief Stipe
At last common sense has prevailed but at what cost to the industry? Millions of dollars down the drain. Surely some heads must roll at the RIB now. With a change in culture to follow. We watch the new CEO of the RIB with interest. 4
Brodie
The industry including the monetary and mental cost to the charged!! The incompetents that were involved in bringing the charges should be given the boot! Absolute load of BS from day one and this BS is in most parts of society nowadays! People need to wake up and fight back from what js going on and the first step is to vote the Communist controlling losers out next year. Apparently we dont live in NZ anymore it is bloody Aotearoa!!! Tell them to go take a running jump!
LongOwner
I strongly favoured the accused and was told I had a mental problem as expressed my view on this and the RIU experience - failed police and poor junior drivers - as I had a deep seated anti authority mind set. I can hold my head up high and will just say I told you so. Now clean out RIU - everyone - and start again. 4
LongOwner
This has taken 5-6 years investigation and near 4 years since arrests for zero . $12 plus million taxpayer cost . Then at the very first press conference - suspension orders breached by the Chch Press ( hopefully charges to follow) - the NZPolice told us all the evidence was overwhelming and the charges will be heard promptly and dealt with by the courts. The charges of firearms was a cigarette lighter , tried to charging one over a trial drive , they had no money trail after wire taping for 2 years , and all the charges were of no substance . RIU , acting as the NZPolice experts , were found out to be useless and on a personal jealous crusade undertaken by failed cops and ex poor junior drivers.. So from go to end nearly 6 years , I told near 220 charges laid , we have zero . Drain the RIU swamp . 1
With A Dream
Bringing vexatious proceedings against these people goes beyond incompetence, it is straight out corruption and in the case of these 3 license holders the RIU had no evidence what so ever. This is why the RIU staff involved in bringing the charges against these 3 license holders must be held accountable and be removed from their positions, if in fact they are still there. They should also face legal consequences for initiating vexatious proceedings if that is possible. Dunns and Dalgety should be reimbursed by the RIU for their legal expenses which combined will be well north of $100k I would guess. I would like to see a program such as Sunday expose this case so the public can see there was indeed corruption , but it wasn't the defendants that were corrupt, it was the police and RIU 3

Joe Bloggs
Do you have Royal Commissions in NZ? If not, get with the program, this needs QC's and SC's and total transparency, only a Royal Commission delivers that.

Lawyers for those charged appeared in court on Friday. Perhaps a couple were thrown out? I'm not sure. But certainly not all, or even a majority. The judge set a date of September 9 for a pre-trial callover. Edited June 5, 2022 by Spatchcock

I think the Erebus disaster was subject to something I thought was a Royal Commission..but not sure if my memory serves me correctly. I do remember Justice Mahon's 'orchestrated litany of lies' summation.

So the few remaining remnants of this expensive debacle are going to possibly go to trial in September 2022. 6 years after the initial investigation began?

With A Dream
Chief a question for you. Do the INCA charges that have been dropped against X, Y & Z refer to the RIU? I only ask because I understood the court had thrown out the charges last year but the RIU were still going to pursue them themselves. I could be wrong though. The situation seems a bit confusing.
