  1. Huge for racing wouldn't you say.
  2. Could not agree more with this sentiment, I do not see any of these alterations strengthening or reigniting the foundations of the sport, in fact I think they'll probably have a negative impact in that regard. You forget the foundations of a sport at your peril as many a sport has found out. Despite $$ being thrown at this I thinks its just more of the"Grand Tour" culture & their is a pervasive view amongst many that just because $$$ being thrown around it's got to be good. Rest assured those with the firepower at the top have little or no consideration for those at the bottom!
  3. Everything is a fluke, unless its bred by a big stud, with a commercial stallion(what they deem commercial) a commercial mare(what they deem commercial) and the right owners you should know that by now!
  4. I tend to agree, but a slot race and most of whats being thrown around won't get the ones you really need back in the sport to breed those bread & butter horses that create turnover etc.
  5. It has every chance of interfering with the Derby, many likely milers who would be tried over the Derby trip as a 3yo will head the slot race way nothing more certain. We aren't talking Railway horses vs Cup horses here , at a glance the 2nd,3rd,4th horses in the this seasons 2000 Guineas are all nominated for the Derby.
  6. It really does feel like we are running building the house without the foundations. Hard to be excited about a slot race, we all know there is only one way to get involved there $$$
  7. These announcements never end up as momentous as they say they are. Is it a Geo Block?
  8. Or a trough or some poppies perhaps , could happen to anyone of course, especially if it's a whale!
  9. The ones who do get ignored. It's closed club, you only have to look at the calendar, programming, venue plan etc.
  10. To be fair who would want to have to travel to Auckland all the time, right surface in the wrong place imho.
  11. I saw something probably last a couple of minutes, would say you didn't miss much. Pretty much every person they had on camera paid tribute and Sweeney tried to cry .
  12. I do think not doing the last race was a bad call , whoever decided that. I only tuned in to hear his last call and that wasn't it.
  13. Crowd didn't look great for a Wellington Cup day? Weather perhaps?
  14. In my view that is the plan , but it would quite simply kill the industry.
  15. Secured Deposit one of my favourite Wellington Cup win, others I enjoyed were Yes Indeed and Flying Luskin.
  16. Tomorrow looks a great day racing at Trentham , hopefully the crowds support it.
  17. Not a chance its the best race day in the country! Perhaps for the poser club it is.
  18. Saw that , was it filming the race?
  19. Clipped heels I'd just forget it went around. Gonna need to be something very special to beat that amazing mare though at any rate.
  20. Looked like a few jocks were getting a line of the track today, imagine things will be considerably different in 2 weeks time with the rail also in True position. They don't half pump the Karaka Million night and also the track on trackside, reminds me a bit of the first race day on Cambridge AWT re: the hype around it. I'm sure it won't be a waste like that , well here is hoping.
  21. A sad state of affairs indeed.
  22. Forget the Pen , how bad was the crowd for fields like that. I thought it was good racing there today. Breaks my heart, Trentham have needed a change for sometime , the club is massively underachieving the industry.
  23. So the TA crew would likely have been considerably better off keeping her and breeding her to WB instead of selling her, I mean in the long run. Amazing the swings and roundabouts in racing you sell a mare to a stud by their Sire for $4.1m then end up buying her first yearling for $2.1m oh the irony of it all!
  24. As always the main goal is to spend other peoples money , plenty of off the track winners when that can be done. The part I find so funny about the sales is people in particular TV presenters. sales company execs, fanboys etc congratulating buyers on spending huge sums of $$ to purchase a horse. Whilst ignoring those who do the hard yards to find value.
  25. Won 5 NZ 2yo races , a huge difference to winning decent 2yo races in Aus. by a Sire not generally known for getting top Aus 2yo types, 2 of his better 2yos did it in the considerably weaker NZ scene (Avantage & Heroic Valour). For any owners sake I hope they can see plenty more that just the mother in her at that price.
