  1. Doubtful and this is where the logic of the likes of BS is so misplaced. I'm all for moving dates and venues if its going to improve the exposure, participation & ultimately returns to the industry , however this does not appear to be the case in any of these changes.
  2. Still impressive figures whether thats the case or not & a lot at Ellerslie on B Day would have been also.
  3. That will kill it, and that is their plan to enable them to get their hands on the assets.
  4. The Status Quo is not an option , but it is at these big full time clubs for some reason.
  5. Don't give Bernard any ideas , he will be pushing for it. He hasn't a clue what makes the industry tick.
  6. Thoroughly deserved imo. An outstanding female athlete, her longevity, consistency and enthusiasm is but to be admired. If only the sport had 10 riders like her.
  7. The question based on the initial post should be , is it more successful for the industry based on what was in place previously? A lot of these larger clubs get good PR from the governing body , no matter what they do. Based on fields & horse numbers like Hastings that does not appear to be the case.
  8. agree and if youre like me , probably broke on the punt by race 8 ; 0
  9. Yes I love the solution everyone has of just sending them to Aus. as if they just turn up and win, the competition is probably need to the toughest in the world over there & it certainly isn't a given in just going over.
  10. Yep total bias, so I wouldn't pay it any credence.
  11. How do you have them without the smaller venues and smaller days to prop them up? Those days don't just magically happen and its not just the funding around it that is of concern its all the preparation and participation that comes from other parts of the industry. Who supports the industry throughout the rest of the season after Boxing Day,NY Day and Karaka Million have been and gone? Most things in life build their base then get the top part right, look at Aus for an example. In NZ we look for short cuts that are unsustainable and we allow ourselves to be run by leaders who have no idea how they industry actually works.
  12. Very true, but what does need to happen is the opportunity to socialise and attend a race meeting is spread as far and wide as possible, particularly at this time of year. Not gifted to clubs and locations based on some false pretense that they are improving the industry by consolidating it, not to mention know factual info or commercial analysis to justify such poor decision making.
  13. Exactly ! If someone doesn't the industry is a dead duck!
  14. So knock some SI meetings on the head to be sure HB get good fields, that'll work surely?
  15. That's exactly what it is , however they are needed but as you say not in the plan.
  16. People are paid to come up with this, can you believe it? Clueless!
  17. Isnt this the meeting that used to be held at Stratford? Perhaps 2 day carnivals just dont work?
  18. last year this HB meeting had an 8 race programme, biggest field 8 starters add in a 5 & 6 horse field also its not working .
  19. One can understand why it's no longer an option when you look at the utter domination of one stable in the country. D Johnson 1.05 ???
  20. Has this meeting ever been popular from a noms perspective? This sums up NZ racing once again, there are plenty of smaller clubs who could have made better use of the licence from the perspective of doing something positive for Racing, but no come hell or high water the powers that be are determined that centralisation is the only way to go. New Plymouth in the CD doesn't look particularly good tomorrow with only 7 races on the card also. One does have to question the programming at some of these meetings also, I mean how thick do you have to be to not have any idea of the horses available in rating bands.
  21. Surely you dont need to wonder? The Covid bounce has them believing their own hype.
  22. Fools running the industry ,who havent got a clue.
  23. Wasnt Opie Bosson allowed to ride 1 kg over on boxing day?
  24. Strip away the hype & BS from that race & its always quite ordinary, made even worse by the fact you have one stable completely dominate every aspect of it , I find it sad that it belittles our G1 races for 2yos & the 2yo pattern in general.
  25. Well you can't have owners who buy expensive hyped up yearlings at the sales racing for the same money as the rest of us peasants can you?
