    The Derby was a joke... they went three seconds slower than the norm. Having over half the field is not good for competitive racing or betting.

    We was huge in the Hannon at start 8 tbf. Owners wanted to try for a Cup start... trainer far less inclined.

    Alan has had five winners from his last 300 starters, across 10 years. Is it any wonder people are falling over themselves to buy one off him that has shown speed?

    I don't believe your scenario applies. The directive/rule (and it was a condition of the Entain sign off, I thought), was any account holder would be able to win up to $2k profit with their first fixed odds win bet on any New Zealand race. I know a couple of sharp punters who are cut off at the knees on top 3 and top 4 (and I mean like, can't win more than $20-$50). But they can still bet to win $2k on a win option.

    Horse is now back at Purdons due to an ongoing disagreement between the owners.

    HRNZ have come out today saying they are 'encouraged' by extra race this week. But there's 10 less horses than last week?

    Unfortunately you are wide of the wide with your slot race assumptions. Part of the reason a number of people didn't buy Race By Grins slots is because initially HRNZ barely contributed anything to it. There needs to be a matching investment from the code on top of the total of the slots. In this case, the slots will total $300,000 and the code/Entain is chipping in $200,000 which is reasonable. I doubt there are the horses to make these two races viable though.

    The reason jumps racing is dying - and has gone in the south - is the lack of riders. Saturday they only had 9 jockeys available. there's four or five inured at present. Fannin is only riding his own (and West Coast), Shaun Phelan has retired and Emily Farr is overseas. They need another 10 jocks. Definitely no shortage of hurdlers in the North Island.

    I would like to see them back too, but with a new rule that claimed horses cannot be exported for 90 days.

    Was quite a lot of people on course. However the ATC have created a major parking problem for themselves by selling off the old stand which has taken away the parking next to the home straight. It was anarchy in the parking lot, even before Race 1, and everyone was being made to park over the back of the track in the dark and rain. Not feasible for the older or disabled or well-dressed.

    Well for starters, the race hadn't been run for 12 years. By saying R35 and higher simply means it is just available to ALL fillies and mares that have won one race. Last time it was a 1-win front which is exactly the same. As a 2700-metre stand at the end of May, I thought it was quite a nice field. That being said, there are hundreds less horses in the North Island than 20 years ago. It should come as no surprise that all fields are smaller and with less quality.

    John Mooney (HRNZ) met with Cambridge two weeks ago to hash it out. I guess the timeline is up to them. The next step will be Entain's tech team making sure they can provide HD coverage and HRNZ's track manager assessing it. The course was very overgrown the last time I drove past.
