  1. The reason jumps racing is dying - and has gone in the south - is the lack of riders. Saturday they only had 9 jockeys available. there's four or five inured at present. Fannin is only riding his own (and West Coast), Shaun Phelan has retired and Emily Farr is overseas. They need another 10 jocks. Definitely no shortage of hurdlers in the North Island.
  2. Kim Treweek Paul Goss Graeme Lord Stephen Jenkins
  3. I think it's clear that I did not.
  4. those are jumping trials. There are 11 trials on the synthetic tomorrow with 73 horses
  5. what's been published in the media?
  6. I would like to see them back too, but with a new rule that claimed horses cannot be exported for 90 days.
  7. Was quite a lot of people on course. However the ATC have created a major parking problem for themselves by selling off the old stand which has taken away the parking next to the home straight. It was anarchy in the parking lot, even before Race 1, and everyone was being made to park over the back of the track in the dark and rain. Not feasible for the older or disabled or well-dressed.
  8. Well for starters, the race hadn't been run for 12 years. By saying R35 and higher simply means it is just available to ALL fillies and mares that have won one race. Last time it was a 1-win front which is exactly the same. As a 2700-metre stand at the end of May, I thought it was quite a nice field. That being said, there are hundreds less horses in the North Island than 20 years ago. It should come as no surprise that all fields are smaller and with less quality.
  9. John Mooney (HRNZ) met with Cambridge two weeks ago to hash it out. I guess the timeline is up to them. The next step will be Entain's tech team making sure they can provide HD coverage and HRNZ's track manager assessing it. The course was very overgrown the last time I drove past.
  10. Poster #1 - Twista is a gelding. Poster #2 - How can we take you seriously if you've never heard of Tate Hopkins? He has trained 90 winners over 10 years.
  11. Poor Brodie. Wants to use the self-service early so they don't know who he is and he can do bets to win $999 and avoid the big brother, five eyes illuminati North Korea rules around identification. Unlucky my bro.
  12. Yes I am aware, and the Manawatu meeting slated for two days later (on the 21st) will also be moved to Otaki giving them a two-day meeting to themselves. BUT, they will also still run the dual code day on Jan 6 at a smaller level, probably four or five races as has been the case recently, even though it doesn't currently say either of those things in the calendar. You can also expect a couple of meetings at Thames to be announced sooner rather than later, too.
  13. I believe the Otaki gallops meeting on Jan 6 will actually be run as a dual code, just two days later than usual. It's a misprint.
  14. The police/crown have lodged some sort of appeal very recently.
  15. You won't find any argument from me that Republican Party and Muscle Mountain were both bad options given their draws/handicaps.
  16. Turnover was $1.75 million, up 40% on last year.
  17. A winning bet playing the speed maps to win $145,000 was terrible? Come on son.
  18. Are you specialist? People who paid in, say, $50, get back $50 rather than $45. 95% of them will leave that $50 in their account and give it back to the TAB today, the same as if they had $45 at the start of the day. But in this case they are appreciative of the GESTURE from Entain to give them money back.
  19. I believe Entain 'topped up' the payout after the last so everyone got their money back. As an earlier poster said... somewhere in the vicinity of $10,000. That kind of goodwill will be rewarded today when most of that money will be reinvested across both codes.
  20. Only just saw this.... would have said Don't Stop Dreaming win and Kango Top3/Top4
  21. Of course you do, because you can't find one that will sit 3 pegs at $4.50 a place and run a drum.
  22. It's in the Racing Act.
  23. There is both thoroughbred and standardbred racing in China. There is no gambling. The standardbreds compete in saddle paces. You can see them briefly at about 1min 47 sec mark of this clip below. If you peruse the recent NZB yearling sales, there were multiple Chinese buyers of about 7 colts... for a spend of $230,000 including an $80,000 colt.
  24. If someone is repeatedly speaking about your wife or daughter in an unsavory manner, they're fair game.
  25. Put your tin foil hat back on.
