  1. It's a no bet race for me, much like many NZ races. Helena Baby handles the conditions but there's little doubt that Melody Belle and TAS are the best horses in the field. Racing doesn't always reward the best, however.
  2. If weight really doesn't make a difference, the criticism of handicappers is somewhat unwarranted? Some trainers constantly complain about their runners getting big weights, but whether they carry 59kg or 54kg, it doesn't matter?
  3. I would have to agree with that. I would like to see the statistics of Lisa Allpress (I think she weighs around 48kg?) riding horses in the realm of 57-59kg.
  4. Interesting - thanks for that Curious. Do you guys factor in weight of a jockey vs. lead bag weight? I've been told it's a factor, but unsure how significant.
  5. Grant isn't exactly a talker. I was asked to be his jockey manager a few years ago but I knew we wouldn't get along, so turned it down. However, I think NZ trainers are expected to be "branded" like the Aussies, but it's just not in our culture. We're the type to get our hands dirty, not buy an expensive suit and try attract new owners. What's best for racing? Probably the latter, but some people are beyond changing.
  6. Hardly seems like equality...
  7. Probably the most sexist post I've seen in awhile. I think you have given yourself too many uppercuts.
  8. That's not relevant when it comes to teaching someone balance.
  9. I've looked again and she does become unbalanced after jumping a hurdle the size of my foot. You'd expect better from a professional. Connections and punters do their dough. A hooker that can't throw the ball in straight from the line out would be heavily criticised and jockeys should be no different.
  10. Twice within 7 days she has fallen off Laekeeper and it hasn't been in the action of going over a jump. What's going on there?
  11. You realise Chris Waller nominated his stayers to run against Winx for this very reason? Sure, the racing was noncompetitive, but it's better than no race at all.
  12. Sometimes the jockeys get tired before the horses.
  13. I also thought Matt Cameron gave up when the winner went past him. Van Blanc didn't exactly pull away and there was still ample time for the inside runner to fight back.
  14. Indeed. NZTAB place prices have always been absolute dog.
  15. I got $50 for doing mine. Worth the annoyance I suppose.
  16. That would explain it! Cheers
  17. It wasn't long ago he was riding 5-6 per meeting at Sha Tin. Has he fallen out of favour with the trainers? Purton is seemingly getting all the top rides now.
  18. Doesn't read that way. Just appears you won't get some of the benefits.
  19. I, personally, don't see it as drawing a line through a horse. It's factoring in various elements related to weight. If a horse is carrying 61kg and is topweight, I don't automatically rule it out. I gather information as to whether it has carried that weight to win in the past etc etc etc. BarryB and Curious don't have to factor weights into their handicapping. That's their prerogative, but to ambush people that do is just childish, naive and far too systematic to warrant my praise.
  20. Was never rubbishing your tips Mardigras
  21. My tips are on sites all around the world. They get 1,000,000 times more coverage than posting tips on a forum does, but each to their own.
  22. https://practicalpunting.com.au/pp-online/a-z-of-betting/weight/form-analysis/pure-pace-20130320 Read the last line.
  23. Not the response I was hoping for from the Punting Ace.
  24. Barry - clearly you're a system punter, which is fine. Tell us what notable systems you've used in the past to good effect. Please post your +/- as I'm looking to add system plays to my repertoire and want to learn from the Punting Ace himself.
  25. You stated that horses rising in weight have a significant advantage over those dropping in weight, yet you don't factor this into your betting. If it's such a significant advantage, surely you'd have a "system" finding horses rising in weight and those dropping in weight, to help with your "value" finding. Or... is it not that significant?
