No they haven't , MW never , that is NEVER lacked confidence or lacked courage , and TH was pretty much the same . Chad Ormsby was the same , cocky , confident and rode like it from the start , all of those guys rode with no fear and they all wanted to be the best . MW handled the Sharrock regime on his ear , he wanted to be told how he could get better . I'd say Mr Pinn will win his share of races , they all do , but can't see him ever winning a premiership , saying that the competition is strong .

He's like a lot of the younger generation , want it all and want it easy . He was at a great stable for apprentices , couldn't cop the hard work or the verbal knocks from the boss when he made a cockup . A huge talent in the saddle , but talent isn't enough , you need steel . Lisa Allpress always had it in spades , this kid and many others haven't . Left Sharrock , too tough , bummed around , realized the money was better in the saddle , but signs up with a mate , a young trainer on the up , but do you reckon he grinds Pinn's arse when he makes a f*^kup or can't be bothered doing his share of the work , not likely . I know other kids in the game with the same poor attitude , know it all , don't want to be told . It's the same in other sports , you hear rugby , rugby league and football coaches saying " you can't get up this generation , it's more the arm around the shoulder with sweet words in their ears " . I don't know about you but when your young there is no fear , shit the things i used to do , i can't believe i did some of it and survived . The problem , as is being highlighted , is there isn't enough riders , young and old , creating competition and forcing riders to up their game , they make a good enough living by cruising .

My first thought was " he's shitting himself " , he looked lost on what to do , no need for him to do that , if he had sat he would have been fine . Having seen him ride a couple where he looked a bit shy in tight room i think he's better off doing something else .
-
Most of the young riders here would be lost without a whip , they haven't got good enough seats or balance and they would have no idea how to kick a horse home . I reckon if you showed them a film of Bill Skelton hustling a horse home they would laugh and say he was scruffy . I see jockeys that have been riding for 5 or more years and they are no better now than they were after 2 , they are supposed to have done an apprenticeship and have become tradesmen/woman , but to most , and i can say it because i have had the conversation with some young riders , they do what they do because it is good money and what else would they do to get the same , basically it's just a job , could be stacking shelves . And it's getting worse .
-
Have to say i have seen him put in some head scratchers , almost like he's forgotten what he there for . But he's not alone in that department .
-
It will have the bonus of not having to watch a large proportion of jockeys looking like they are about to fall off because they can't use a whip properly .

Mark Walker crushes Singapore rumours..."best gumment ever"
nomates replied to Thomass's topic in Galloping Chat
Where would Walker go if he came back here , and i thought Logan left for financial reasons , perhaps she can't . Might be they are staying because they have no other options . -
You mean everyone up that way doesn't automatically know who the Chief Stipe is , can't believe that .

I'm being facetious chief . Have some breaky .

What i fear happening is a public backlash if/when the A/W's become white elephants . The long list of legitimate questions about lack of figures showing costs to benefits etc . I fear the it could lead to huge amount of public animosity and negativity towards racing . But it's all good , we will still have 3 very good training facilities .

Not often you can say a man was born with a voice to commentate horse races . Saturday mornings on ZB with Paddy O'D were not to be missed , one the comic the other the straight man . But they knew there stuff to , not like the fluff we have now .

The Excitement on the day was the anticipation of the big double and the rest of the races were just filling in the gaps for most , but now although there is some interest of the clash of MB and RoW , what else is there , the fillies race probably holds the most interest for me as there a couple of fillies i think are better than average , but the rest of the card is , YAWN . We're going to Wgtn for the weekend and the intention was to stop off for a few races before heading into town , but now not so sure now , we have to pay now that we don't hold any licences , i don't begrudge paying but gees not great value for money for mine . Might just put my bets on before leaving home and recording them to watch on Sunday . At least i have great memories of times gone . I still have a picture in my head of , Blue Blood , Mop and Panagor flashing across the line and the crowd buzzing because no one knew who had got it . AAAHHH memories .

Now i've just read that Super Strike wasn't even considered for the Thorndon , why ? , would have been so badly off under the conditions . How many times has the Anniversary winner gone on and done the double , used to be one of the highlights of the carnival . On top of that why do they still call one race the Duoro cup , it used to hold a special place for promising young horses on the up , no more just another rating race with a similar stake to the others , pointless .
-
The crowd size is going to be interesting , first two days beyond dismal and i think the first days racing was better than this week . I'm sure the piss up artists will be out but how many others ? Not that long ago you could hardly move on cup day .
-
The karaka millions meeting and it's positioning has completely fecked with the ICONIC Wgtn cup carnival . That tho isn't to blame for the abysmal quality of the cup , this race isn't alone for lack of staying depth in NZ . Until we can get stakes that stop people selling anything that shows ability nothing is going to change . A friend had a small share in a filly , unfashionably bred , that ran a great 4th at it's first trial , would've won with a clear run and showed a great turn of foot , the first offer turned down started at 100k , after 2 more offers , gone to a big Victorian stable . Can't blame them , but when they are buying them at the price with that little exposure i can't see it stopping . We now purely and simply a feeder club now , no hope of getting back to the premier league .
-
What has become of this once great race , has to be the worst field of nom's i have seen for this race , 250k , this field shouldn't be running for more than 100k , and i'm generous , nearly all the field on 53kg , top weight 57kg . It will be lucky to maintain it's G3 status at this rate . Very sad state of affairs . Was thinking of going but not so sure now .

So i see Te Akau has 6 runners nom'd in two of the races on Sunday at Pukekohe , was thinking Mrs Bosson might be employed as a saddle runner for the day , not too far from home .
-
All they had to do was offer BGP a 10% bonus on top and i think most would have been happy with that , as it is the price they gave was over 50% what i thought it would pay , i thought no way this isn't the quinella , should pay about $1.60 . Personally i think it's more about both entities w**king each other off .

Why can there never be some effing consistency with this industry , christ it was on 263 yesterday , that channel is free today , now it's on freeview .
-
Doesn't appear so , can't find it anywhere . Very disappointing .
-
I agree with both of you , certainly the depth is not there for whatever reason , but even allowing for that his results in the past 1 1/2 seasons are outstanding . His team around him must be very good also and he must be a very good time and man manager .
-
The Aussies have stepped up their game and getting more involved . Plus i see few of horses being bought thru Cataldo and Perry for Aus connections .
-
Dog with a bone guys , time to let it go .
-
Have to say the NZ trainers are buying a lot more than usual thru the first 50/60 lots , certainly very few Aus names . Hopefully these horses are destined to stay in NZ to race , good for the local scene . K2 book will be interesting , might be a few specials .

Sleeping with their jockey doesn't make you a stable rep , maybe she has Te Akau accreditation in which case sweet , but the point is where does the line lie between stable rep or just some acquaintance . I'm talking about us being professional , something we are long from being , but at least let us try .
