  1. Big enough to get 8 greyhounds around it .
  2. That might have gone out to a bi or even tri annual report , either way could be a bit of the Hans Christian A nderson about it .
  3. Last night hey had the Manikato sandwiched between an nondescript greyhound race and a nondescript harness race . Last 1 or2 horses loading for the Manikato as they crossed , then barely 30 secs post race . The producers simply have no understanding or connection with the product , to them those 3 races were one and the same . It is just a gambling product to them . Imagine the All Blacks were playing a test but no one knew the opposition , or any of the players names . his is how they treat racing . Just another race for people to bet on .
  4. Talented horseman , prepares and educates a lot of young horses ready to go up to Asia . wouldn't read too much into one race .
  5. did i hear one of the commentators say track was a slow 6 ( aust 6 ) ? still good on our TAB . Might have misheard .
  6. Lack of brain not rain for a cpl of riders there .
  7. Looks like the weather forecasters are as average as here .
  8. Unfortunately the Wgtn cup is just another inflated open handicap that is not worth 250k , and i grew up on the wgtn cups . Don't see what it will achieve , can't recall any horses that have missed a start that were up and coming stars . Again just a sad indictment of the state of NZ's staying ranks . Also as you say now trying to promote country racing whilst slowly whittling away at their legs , They haven't got a clue which direction they are going in , far less which direction they want to go .
  9. Just read that 3 promising fillies , 2 of them Stakes winners this spring , are transferring to C Wallers stable after the 1000 gns at Riccarton in a few weeks . Only Words , who is already there , Matchmaker and now Tinker McPhee , currently fav for the 1000 gns , have all seen majority shareholdings sold to clients of CW . A sad continuation of the drain of talent out of NZ , good luck to all the owners who sold can't blame them . This is one of the things that we need to reverse to some degree , will only happen if we have a strong and vibrant NZ racing industry .
  10. Pike was right and that was my first reaction when i heard them talking about it , fortunately it had no bearing on the result and the resulting redder faces than already had .
  11. The masters are never wrong , and the serfs must always pay .
  12. Fantastic , wish i had been a bit smaller just to even ride track work . Did ride a gallop once on a private track , absolutely loved it , bit tough on the horse tho .
  13. I actually like Guerin as a presenter , but why is he fronting a galloping review show , doesn't front any race days . I am sure he has galloping knowledge but i don't see the codes mixing personnel in other jurisdictions . Or as i said yesterday , everybody has to be a bit of a jack of all trades . Don't see Radley or Dufficy reviewing harness or grey's .
  14. It's the fact that they were saying all good then can them on the morning , leaving owners to foot another weeks training . Why did they not have Taupo on standby to hold them , they are programmed for next week anyway , hold them at Taupo and look to next week for Waipa or another venue . Lots of young horses looking to get up and running at this time of year , the sooner they are trialled the sooner they get to the races .
  15. Quite polite and restrained in the circumstances .
  16. I definitely agree around the presentation side of things , lots of room for improvement , on and off course . Re T Lee , i think Tony's happy to do whatever they want as long as he can commentate races , won't tip horses , doesn't see it as his job , so gives impressions of horses condition , that's needed also but his job is to commentate , let him do that . Trackside appears to need people who are prepared to take on a number of jobs . Jack of all trades , master of none comes to mind .
  17. That's a bit tough mate , it's not fair to say that the racing from Ellerslie and HB was poor , both meetings not what they used to be but that's NZ racing as a whole now . I to was hanging out for the Aus meetings to kick in as well but the NZ racing was fine .
  18. You can blame them , they are not stupid , they know there needs to be change , they just lack the heart and the will . Behaviour and attitude is a choice . Till that changes nothing will .
  19. This could become an bi annual byline , but it won't wash , Peters held a gun to their heads for the last pay out . Won't happen again . Racing needs to find that much every 2 years to be in the position it wants to be , even then that is only a beginning .
  20. When racing is at a cross roads and needs significant change they just keep doing the same old thing . Covid closure was the opportunity for racing to change the way we done things when we started up and got going again , but no , just reverted to doing the same things that weren't working before , on and off the track . That is a clear indication that the present leadership has no vision , or plan for the future . The downward spiral will continue until racing undertakes a major overhaul , when ? , if ? , not holding my breath .
  21. Defo looks a group horse , you can see some kickback up the straight for sure .
  22. Tough win , was massive last start , looks derby material for sure .
