  1. 1. Mardigras, for starting off the threads on punting and making many of us think about how we punt, regardless whether it come to anything 2. Have to look back, but there were a few beauties 3. Von Smallhausen, always has an answer, usually very witty 4. The Chief(Doug), contrary to various claims, I've never met him 7. Same again, for having the courage of his convictions to start the site 8. PJ, for running his Super Comps, and the time he puts into them, long may they continue
  2. A bit of fun 1. Best Poster 2. Best Post of the year 3. Wittiest/Humourous Post/Poster 4. The person you would most like to meet 5. The one thing you would like to change 6. Best Comp player 7. BOAY person of the year 8. Special award for contributing to BOAY 9. Anything else of note
  3. Lots of money sloshing around, most of it being used to run the RB, so you have to put a little bit of faith in the outsourcing the TAB might return a lot more money to the stakeholders....if not, why do it
  4. Apologies, the situation is a bit better for RC, I did not refresh the browser 187236 to 187247 11 posts 11504 to 11568 64 posts
  5. He doesn't have to be Einstein either to see that his online users have halved in the last 6 weeks
  6. Instead of calling people names, he needs to focus on his site which is almost terminal On the thoroughbred channel since I posted this morning, they have had just 4 posts(187236 to 187240), whereas BOAY have had 62(11504 to 11566). Nothing secretive about that, and even a niller like me can do basic subtraction
  7. You're being kind again
  8. The Chief is off to Ruakaka races tomorrow, anyone got any winners, tips or value runners to help him out with the bank balance. Just PM him if you don't want it made public
  9. I thought Thomass was from Mission Bay. He never posts after hours, or in the weekend, bit of a mystery really, and I'm dreading what the response will be to this, try to keep it light hearted I'm sure it will be claimed that posts are so high due to Thomass, but he never posted since my post on this on Sunday morning, and since then it has been 109/15!!!
  10. Wasn't ridden out either
  11. Well this site won't be failing anytime soon. The place is alive and vibrant and mainly friendly, with too many good and interesting posters to fall over, and we've only just begun Although I never belonged back then, they say RC used to be similar, when Angie and Dave started and ran it
  12. I recall Mardigras, Curious and Chief Stipe posted on the stakes structure I can only find Mardigras, as below "What: Single tier. Similar to a HK model. Start from the bottom with sufficient level to provide owner enough to pay a months fees from a couple of 3rd or 4ths. Work up from there based on affordability. Focus on growing this business to increase that over time. Why: NZ horses are not geographically separated. End result is that horses from within a single grade race when the scheduling allows. There isn't any delineation between what is a tier one horse and a tier two horse. They all just race each other. It is totally different in that regard to Australia where the horses are geographically separated based on the tiers. And the associated costs are separated as well. You will pay more for a trainer predominantly racing o the metro tier than you will for one that races predominantly provincial or country. It's trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. It doesn't fit."
  13. Well let's assume you have a 100 mil to play with, what's your reco
  14. That would add 1.7 secs to the time
  15. From the Messara Report, this is his stakes reco, based on 100 million. Assume this is achieved, I think industry participants, should put forward what would be an efficient model for (I have assumed costs will already have been addressed, as you can't double stakes without addressing costs) 1. Stake money structure 2. Dates 3. Programming 4. Handicapping 5. Anything else
  16. Most of the initiatives in the Messara report are ultimately aimed at doubling stake money to 100 million. I guess the largest part of this, is devolving the RB into Wagering NZ, and outsourcing the TAB, I presume, so that a lot more money is returned to the industry. As someone in the industry Freda, do you see a doubling of stakes, as a satisfactory end result.............I'm not saying it would happen, just asking
  17. Final wrap for the year(promise I won't do another one till maybe March next year, our 1 year anniversary). As explained previously, it is important to know where we stand after 9 months, and to let people know that Online users Hard to get anything else other than an estimate here, some big swings, when BOAY is miles ahead, and vice versa. On average, I would say the 2 sites are neck and neck One thing for sure, gone are the halcyon days of RC having high 100, low 200 users online. At best, they get into the low 100's these days, here's the link so you can check for yourself https://www.racecafe.co.nz/forums/index.php?/online/ So you can say that the launch of BOAY has effectively halved RC Posts Have kept a record of the number of thoroughbred only posts(it's RC's flagship section, so it is to their favour) over the last week, since Wednesday morning 12 December BOAY 271 posts RC 134 posts That's twice as many posts on BOAY, and at the end of the day, a chat forum is about people chatting, not so much a news forum So, we're not failing, we're not nillers And all this without the Chief playing a trick, because he has been otherwise occupied in the last few months Onwards and upwards in 2019, and a big thanks to ALL those that have supported BOAY, by either posting or simply just coming online to read what we have to say
  18. Gift of speed more like it Worth a mention, runs 1.07.46 untested at Awapuni, a track record, although I presume the revamped track had something to do with it?? With a time like that, could run rings around those top Aussie sprinters, but just doesn't work like that
  19. The only reason I asked, was I thought Snitz of Time was good value at 2.10 FF place, but the other 2 I selected were poor value on FF. But I'm obliged to go with FF or tote. Happens a lot on the TAB, they really cramp the FF place odds for favourites, and you usually end up with a better final tote price. Same with inter meeting, you can only go FF
  20. Sounds like the guy on the rain gauge at Te Rapa is the same one who was overseeing the application of sand to the track a while back
  21. Yep, why wouldn't you with 200 million at stake
  22. Is it possible that the TAB could ever offer a hybrid version, namely a mix of tote and FF. Sometimes a leg has a good value FF price but the other legs may have poor value, so better to risk your chance on a tote price eg Tauranga $200 all up 1. Multi(FF), Snitz of Time 2.10, Veine D'Or 1.35, Melarita 1.40 RETURN 793.80 2. Tote, Snitz of Time 1.80, Veine D'Or 1.60, Melarita 1.70 RETURN 979.20 3. Hybrid, Snitz of Time 2.10 FF, Veine D'Or 1.60 tote, Melarita 1.70 tote RETURN 1142.40
  23. It is important for people who read this site, or people who may be interested in becoming involved, to know where we sit after 9 months, and to know we are not any longer a minor player. Many will have already drawn a positive conclusion about BOAY, but it is still important to put a little bit of data out there to dispel the propaganda.
