  1. Messara out
  2. 4o% to go ahead according to Rutherford on Trackside radio
  3. Now up in the air according to Ken Rutherford. Negotiations ongoing with Peter's office about timing of the report release, so the Aug 17 date can go ahead I presume Messara will withdraw if the report is not released prior to Aug 17
  4. And as anticipated, not an original thought
  5. To the many people who have joined BOAY and help establish this site by contributing, either by helping run things or simply just posting their views. What is important is providing a free and open forum for people to discuss all matters racing and otherwise, without fear of abuse or retaliation Most who join seem to contribute, which is what a chat site is all about and spurs others on to also post This site has been going just over 4 months and we are under no illusion at the task at hand of establishing a strong foothold against an established competitor, which we are doing with your input So lets repay Chief Stipe(Doug) for having the courage of his convictions in setting up BOAY, in the face of much adversity and unfortunately, abuse, by making this site a fantastic place to be, full of fun, laughter and discussion..............and no inequity The last bit is a quote from FeelTheFear, thanks
  6. ????? You've just posted, so you must have registered and logged in Chief Stipe runs the show
  7. Is NZ racing able to embrace something different, meaning anything other than turf tracks, leaving Strathayr as the only option I just recall going back a few years, how night racing was tried at Avondale, and was a failure and ditched
  8. Words like pig and lipstick immediately came to mind
  9. https://www.racing.com/videos/2018-08-06/after-the-last--6818
  10. There was a horse in The Godfather wasn't there? That's a bit more recent
  11. Why don't some of these clubs come to an agreement with some of the many food trucks that are around. After all their business is reliant on the excellence and quality of the food they produce......unlike racing clubs. it would appear
  12. Anyway, it is Peters prerogative when he releases it, within reason He initiated things, he got someone of Messaras stature to do it, that's a lot more than I can recall anyone else doing. Didn't see any Nats ministers doing that, can't recall any CEO's of NZRB or NZTR taking or calling for such a radical initiative, they just collected their exhorbitant salary cheques each month and churning out reports pushing out the day of reckoning beyond their tenure. Could be all smoke in mirrors on Peters part, I hope not for the sake of the racing industry
  13. More than likely has to come out before Aug 17, as Messara has agreed to a Q+A session at Waikato Racing Club on that date Messara added to Te Rapa function billing Sat, 04 Aug 2018 Dennis Ryan Already guaranteed to be entertaining through the presence of Australian jockey legend Johnny Letts, the race eve function scheduled for Te Rapa later this month is now bound to be a sellout with John Messara added to the billing. The Waikato Racing Club today announced that the author of the widely touted Messara Report has agreed to attend the function on Friday August 17 ahead of the Gr. 2 Lisa Chittick Foxbridge Plate raceday. After being commissioned by Racing Minister Winston Peters to conduct a full review of the New Zealand racing industry and immersing himself in that task with trademark alacrity and wisdom, the former head of Racing NSW delivered his report earlier this week. Messara’s appearance at the Te Rapa function, which will take the form of a Q+A session with broadcaster and committed racing enthusiast Simon Doull, could well be very timely given his report is now in the hands of the Minister.
  14. Quite appropriate at the moment

    CRUSADERS.....

I remember back to the 80's and 90's when Auckland used to win everything................. and now look at them
  16. Noticed this comment on Formpro Te Rapa I’ve been speaking to a few trainers recently who have had runners racing at Te Rapa, and most have said their runners have been effected by the sand coming back in their horses faces and putting them off doing their best. So the obvious place to be is in the lead or second outer. So I’ve concentrated on finding those runners who should get their own way in front and have the ability to hold on and win.
  17. Some are claiming they will see the report before it is released. Already they are saying it is 96 pages with a 6 page summary. A bronze hat DB, that could be painful
  18. Surely you are not another one of these wiseguys who has leaked info I meant, the whole concept of the Racing Board is scrapped and replaced by something that does not cost over 200 mil per annum to run
  19. No reason why he won't release the report fairly quickly, nothing to lose, he commissioned it, Messara who is the most credible and able person around did it. Probably a bit of an all care no responsibility scenario for Peters. There will be all sorts of barriers to implementation, headache city, that if they come into play and it prevents such, then Peters can simply say he tried, the racing industry resisted, they deserve what they get
  20. Going for the quadrella Legs already correctly selected Trump wins the Presidency The British and Irish Lions win one or more tests Winston picks Jacinda(some thought it would be Nats/Greens, and we are still laughing)
  21. Sorry to be the harbinger of optimism, but I think he will release the report in full before the end of Aug. How much of it he acts upon and when, might be a different story Be disappointed to be proven wrong
  22. Racing: Messara delivers review of NZ industry to minister 2 Aug, 2018 5:00am Quick Read Mr. John Messara - Chairman Racing NSW (right). Photo / Supplied Otago Daily Times By: Jonny Turner Australian administrator John Messara has delivered his review of the New Zealand racing industry to Racing Minister Winston Peters. Messara's review is set to recommend revolutionary change to revitalise the three racing codes. The report is not likely to see daylight for some time. Peters' office said he would review the report in the coming weeks. The minister recently pledged the racing industry would be better off once he was able to implement the recommendations of the report. Messara helped bring wide landmark change when administrating racing in New South Wales. He led reforms to increase and boost long-term revenue streams in the state when chairman of Racing NSW and Racing Australia. Peters recently signalled the type of changes Messara effected in Australia would form the basis for the change he will recommend for the New Zealand racing industry. The report looks set to recommend consolidation of the country's racecourses and the building of all-weather racetracks. Peters' preference was for all-weather tracks in Waikato, Manawatu and Christchurch.
  23. Racing: Collett rapt with first premiership 1 Aug, 2018 5:00am 4 minutes to read Sam Collett says travel to the South Island can be tiring but it's been really fun. Photo / Trish Dunell Other While she may be currently enjoying a week of rest and recreation in Cairns, the smart money will be that Samantha Collett is still well and truly on the go despite the fact she is supposed to be on holiday. The work ethic instilled into Collett at a young age was never more evident than over the past 12 months which saw her capture her first National Jockeys' Premiership title. A final tally of 132 wins, 26 clear of last season's champion Chris Johnson, came from an astonishing 1173 raceday mounts, nearly 400 more than cousin Alysha Collett who had amassed 784 before taking up a Singapore contract in May. For Collett the punishing workload was the means to an end in fulfilling her burning ambition to establish herself firmly amongst the elite riding ranks in the country. "I really haven't had a chance to stop and reflect on the season, it's been so busy," Collett said. "It's been full on but awesome at the same time. "My goal certainly wasn't to win the premiership, that was just a wonderful by-product, but really I just wanted to establish myself so I could improve the rides I was getting and get on the more competitive horses. "The support I have had has just been incredible and I'm very thankful to everyone who has helped me along the way." Collett and manager Darryl Anderson have worked hard to generate opportunities the length and breadth of the country, which has seen her compete regularly in both the South Island and Central Districts to complement her work in her traditional base, the upper North Island. "I guess it really all started towards the end of last season where I was getting more rides and winners and it just snowballed from there," Collett said. "Part of it has been the travel to the South Island where I've established some great contacts. While it can be tiring heading down there on such a regular basis it's been really worthwhile and something I have enjoyed. "I've never been attached to a major stable, so I have had to work hard to get the opportunities I've been lucky enough to get this year." Collett firmly believes that the amount of riding she has done has benefitted her in more ways than just purely financial returns. "The number of rides I have had has really helped hone my fitness, but just as important has been the confidence it has given me," she said. "Being confident means you can be more patient in a race and that can only help the horses that you ride. It's funny but it seems to be that things happen slower in races now because I have that experience under my belt and I know it has made me a better jockey for it. I believe I'm thinking a lot sharper and it has really helped me read races a whole lot better." Collett will use her time away from the track to reflect on her year but more importantly to reset her goals for the new season. Included in that planning will be to take as much away from a golden opportunity that has come around courtesy of her stellar performances. In late August she will represent New Zealand in the Japan Racing Association's World Allstars Jockeys' Series that will be held in Hokkaido. "It looked pretty exciting to me and after talking it over with Dad (former rider Jim Collett), I was definitely happy to accept the invitation," Collett said. "Dad rode in the series twice in the 1990s and he took my granddad with him on one trip. He'll be coming with me when we fly to Japan and the four-race series will take place on consecutive days at Sapporo racecourse on August 25 and 26. "I get to ride against some of the best jockeys in the world, so I will be trying to soak up all the knowledge I can. It's a great privilege to be invited and to get that sort of exposure is fantastic, so I will be doing my best to impress." - NZ Racing Desk
  24. They get a huge holiday crowd because it is a tradition for many people in the Coromandel over Xmas/New Year. Another date would relegate it to just another country meeting, so rock and a hard place really
  25. That's right we do, when was it Chief, about 3 months ago
