  1. Trying to find a thread that 'suits' however, a poster on another site is pleading for help with a farrier at Hawera, once loud and proud Hawera, a great rack and a great town, now, they are saying the small stables up there can't get their horses shod....FFS what's happening there, I don't think Foxton has the same problem, or do you? Is this a sign of things to come? Reefton asking why I bother with NZ racing, I still care, otherwise I wouldn't bother, and this worries me, if you can't attract farriers, and the local vet is a small animal vet, or a cattle reproduction expert, you have trouble, so what's the answer? I bet those hopeless loons in Petone will be rubbing their hands with glee, hoping Hawera will hand up........God it's so bloody hopeless.
  2. They used to run F1 Grand Prix at Levin, when I was boy, Awapuni could be new home of Chris Amon, or Denny Hulme?
  3. Bugger, once again I have to ask you to give yourself an uppercut, it's good old common sense, the Petone mob have glass jaws, they've never had to give themselves an uppercut, and we all know why.
  4. Geez, where did that common sense come from? if you've got any to spare, could you send it onto Jackson St Petone? with a cc to CJC?.........or do you reckon that might be a wasted exercise?
  5. Concerned and worried members? Concerned and worried trainers? Owners? all of the above? you would think......
  6. LOL, going by the PM's he sent me, he told me a lot, mostly where to go!
  7. Fair comment, however, do you agree that NZ racing is run by the northern cartel and SI is considered the problem child? To attract a great track manager, great salary for starters, and an even better track record.......Chch should be able to attract good people, but not with all this BS going on.......
  8. Can I ask you? do you have an AGM at CJC? If so, will the CEO take questions from the floor? I say that as the old Sydney Turf Club certainly did, and boy was there some heated 'discussion' especially when the merger with the AJC was first mooted.......there must be hundreds of financial members of the CJC with serious concerns not only with the proposed AWT but the club mamegment in general.
  9. I think you underestimate how desperate some folk are, their horses could pull up fair, then during the next week or so show soreness, shoulder, withers, legs, you name it, the track rider says, '' hey boss, doesn't quite feel right'' if you've been there, you'd know......but the desperates will run their horses anyway, through hope and of course desperation, becoming cannon fodder for poor track managers and administrators.
  10. You don't get it, IMO, but hey, as I said, its a democracy, thank God for that, and at least we can say what we think, can't we......oh, without viciousness, good luck for the long summer ahead.
  11. I don't think I've been an exceptionally good trainer, I have tried to tell it like it is, the truth, to me and mine. I happen to disagree vehemently with you on several issues. It's my democratic right is it not? luckily, there are quite a few others on here that aren't afraid to disagree with you. You PM and attack me, nothing I have said is untrue, and I speak from the heart and the pocket, my missus is an Ozzie, she loved NZ racing and loved breeding horses there, until she realised what a sad future lay ahead, our couple of mil we invested there is a drop in the ocean in the big scheme of things and I'm happy to be back here watching the malaise from afar. Sadly, the victims of our decision are the young trainer we had in the NI and a delightful and talented lady trainer in the SI.....plus, feed companies, transporters, vets, etc etc......it is people like you that are savage without reproach, unable to accept criticism from any quarter, and turn hostile when challenged. I'm almost finished in racing, this tenure is my last throw at the stumps, I've loved my racing life and my corporate life and the time we spent owning and running an award winning travel and safari business. Many hurdles and speed bumps all over the world, negotiating business arrangements with Qantas, coordinating logistics for two FIFA World Cups, along with Wallaby and All Black supporters tours to Europe and the African and South American continents, so, arguing with you on a public forum is not my ideal way to enjoy my racing experience. I don't wish you ill, just hope you can gain a little humility and concede that we are all entitled to our opinions, especially those that can offer case or life experiences that support facts stated. Joe.
  12. It's not personal chief, well, yes it is, as I said we lost a very good horse because of the track, I'd never have sent him south to run on a concrete pitch, he never recovered from that run, he had a knee op, wrong decision to send him there, my fault, but they are unprofessional to present tracks like they do. The other half is still beating me up over it, he should have been here, he would have been more than handy. It's not the only track either, I'll give you that, I've been lucky enough to have trained on Flemington and Rosehill, and now here in QLD, I've got benchmarks, I get pissed when people argue when they have never trained or raced horses on our tracks, Riccarton is a joke, and adding an AWT to the joke is a bigger joke, and finally, I've had winners on G1 tracks in MEL and SYD, we had the fastest stayer in OZ in 91, when he broke the track record he smashed it, it was on a G1, so I'm not one eyed just upset that you could go into bat for a disgusting mess that is Riccarton, and nothing is done to rectify it. For Gods sake, I trained more winners at Moonee Valley than any other metro track, I loved the place, but that was the old velodrome and now it's a beautiful strathayr, I'd love to take one down there, they knew what they had to do, they did it....not like this mob at CJC and NZTR.....they are lost souls, just wandering aimlessly.
  13. Well thought out and articulated, the blind Thomas's don't get it, or don't want to, why? well you have to ask yourself that question.
  14. Read the stipes report, if you're that literate, how many went poorly or the jock couldn't explain the performance, you don't need to go amiss to end up a cripple, or best case scenario, buggered for the rest of the season/campaign.......you don't think those horses and trainers will avoid your goat track....oh hang on, they don't have much alternative do they.......damned if they do, damned if they don't......the hole's getting bigger, keep digging.
  15. Thats pitiful.......what about the others? just because yours escaped, how bloody selfish is that, I wouldn't expect anything less.
  16. I'm sorry my learned friend, but it's a mass debate in IMO.
  17. My old Man broke a NZ record for 880 yards at Cooks Gardens Wanganui in about 1938, he only held the record for a week or so until Pat Boot broke it, my old man had his leg blown to smithereens while trying to escape Crete, he had shit on the liver for the rest of his life blaming Hitler for ruining his Olympic dream.......the old man trained himself, he used Arthur Lydiard's technique the rest of his life to keep himself fit, he swore Lydiard was a genius, but he stumped me one day when he came to stay while I was training at Flemington, ''why don't you take your horses to the sand dunes'' he said, yep, we had plenty of those at Flemington, he was a classic my Dad, a fitness freak, shame I didn't inherit those qualities.
  18. I note in the stewards reports many horses mentioned re '' didn't handle todays track conditions' and many horses where the postillion just coughed with '' can't offer any tangible excuse'....what a bloody joke and disgrace......
  19. Or some not chuckling, those with an axe to grind like.
  20. Except for the 1-7 that we were all chuckling about at the coast races........
  21. Yep, the view is different from the Prezo's room alright, the bruising from the backslapping was horrendous! Oh, talking about the old days Chief, I rode in a race against the mighty Triton once, Levin or Foxton I just can't recall, but I do remember they ran 1-9 that day and everyone was saying how quick that was and how great the track was. Triton was a better horse than Greyway IMO as he raced against some wonderful horses over here, like Gunsynd and co, but the tracks we had back then were magic, soles of grass thicker than the glove puppets comments......isn't it great to be able to compare, to remember back that far, and yes, I'm bitter and twisted over Riccarton as it cost us a very good horse....so sit on it!
  22. Thank God I'm not Robinson Crusoe, running 1-7 in early Oct? the first winner might be well above average, but a maiden running that time 1-21 and change is worrying, he wont have longevity if that is served up to him constantly, although the trainer doesn't seem to care.....it's in fact a horse welfare issue surely, why don't the owners association speak up or are they stifled?
  23. My dicks bigger than yours, I'm not getting into one of those with you, it's shows your mentality, you should have garnered enough nouse to know by now I at least have trained winners albeit here in Oz and not there, especially on the tarmac you and your mate serve up to the other poor buggers. being able to cop criticism and grow from it is an admirable trait, once you can do that, you'll grow as a man and an industry luminary. I trained a very good sprinter, once, he was by Sadlers Wells bro, Tate Gallery, he had very soft bones, I nursed him, and placed him best I could on tracks that were forgiving, Won his maiden by 7 lengths at Hawkesbury giving Dwayne Dunn his first win in NSW by the way, but if I had of had him at Riccarton he would have broken down, same as the top stayer I had that I nursed, out of Artiface, he smashed an OZ metro track record the day he should have been in the Cox Plate, that's another story, but if I had of had him on your goat track he would.have broken down too.....don't preach to me about your old warhorse, for every one of those there's a sad tail of whoa for the ones gone bad on goat tracks.....our last runner in NZ went bad after running on your goat track a year back, he never came back and is now in the paddock waiting to be rehomed by a lovely young girl that doted on him, shall I send you and your mate the vet bill and training fees?
  24. Am I seeing things? the maidens at Riccarton running sub 1-22 for the 1400? either the clock is buggered or the champion course curator has turned out a doozy, how many horses will go west today? Horse welfare, yep, means SFA at that track, the attrition trainer wont worry, he's got plenty to fill up the boxes vacated by the breakdowns, and there will be breakdowns....bloody disgusting.
  25. It's a good watch, France, jumping on the AWT......they jump a couple on their way to the start, they don't even do even time during the running, measure their jumps, all stand off, no sight boards, and only get serious the last half mile, a bit like 3 day eventing, and very few of them fall, bugger all, the French jocks 'bounce' when they hit the deck, must be all that cheese and garlic.!
