  1. Yep and you've never done anything wrong in your life?........we all know why David did what he did, it's called giving a person a second chance.
  2. David was singled out, he was victimised, he can come to me on the Goldie and he has a job, I'll put him on Raceday too, his Dad was my mate, and David needs another chance. I believe our maker gives us all another chance, but NZTR is mightier than our maker and far more judgmental, it's an open invitation to David and hopefully he'll apply to the authorities for a clearance,.....he'll love the sun and surf too.......
  3. I used to think the AWT would be a godsend, how wrong I was, and the punter here in Oz agrees. The turnover is terrible compared to a grass track comparable, certain stables do well on them, example, Hayes and Dabernig, they have a similar surface to Pakenham at home, so they have a head start, and know which of these love and those that don't. So it will suit attrition trainers and the big stringers, which really go hand in hand......cynical bastard aren't I?....but having spent a lot of time up in Newmarket UK and watching the horses work on the waxed sand all weather Al Bahathri, some are comfortable, some are not. It's a total waste of industry money, you ask the best, most learned trainers here and they'll say, Strathayr........by a furlong. But what would they know, Petone knows everything they are figjams, that's why the place is rooted.
  4. You're usually spot on, but can I just add, for revenue to increase which of course should drive stake rises, the punter has to have confidence in the product and from where I sit my major concern is integrity. The lack of pre race testing is abominable and as it's no secret there is bugger all money, who in their right mind invests/wagers on a gaming product where you have no idea if the horse you have backed is clean? How do we know they are processing the post race swabs of winners? I don't trust them, do you?.......when you're broke you'll do anything to survive, think about it. The TCO2 testing at the gallops there is practically non-existent, so if someone is inclined to cheat and milkshake or mask, then it's open slather isn't it? I know several punting Whales that used to play the NZ racing market regularly, now it's a no go zone, the investments on NZ racing on the TAB in Oz have been woeful, 1600 bucks in the win pool on R1 at Otaki today, the place pool was a joke.......it's a sign, they will only be able to pay stakes by borrowing again, and from who and what goes up as collateral? maybe a racecourse or two. In any other industry people would be behind bars.......it's a sick joke and I'm pissed...as in angry, nothing will change and that's a culture problem....sorry to say.
  5. Yeah, but you're a businessman, they're not. They'll draw salaries for the rest of their lives, take no risks and slink off with a great super payout.......and give a toss? no chance of that.
  6. Well, as we all knew, not guessed, knew......the bosses will sell off what they can to fund racing going forward and whoa behold anyone that stands in their way.......but is the sell off for stakes, or salaries.......can anyone tell the truth? Jackson sails off into the sunset, woopy doo, but who's left behind? the brains trust, oh it's just magical all this and the government is complicit. I see the police knock on your door if you espouse adverse views now, so, the only way to get to the bottom of all this is the sanctity of the ballot box. The problem is though, imagine another Nathan Guy, no way Jose, I need a bath towel for the tears, a hanky just doesn't do it.
  7. The steaks/stakes will pop up Chief, the sausage rolls are coming from Push and Shove now, just across the road, 2 min in the microwave, so big savings to be had......it's bloody exciting.
  8. When you have a small, boutique stable you are far more aware of weight spread, placing etc etc......IMO.........there are some attrition trainers who send em round regardless........
  9. If I remember John Skinner won 3 maidens at a Marlborough/Nelson/Blenheim back in the early 70's.....same horse..... penalised 7lb each day.....as long as you had nommed you could run........hell those meetings were classic, the pubs were full, the towns closed up half day and the track was pumping, booze, Shielas, horses, what more could you want......turnover........turnover......Petone could only dream now, but the dreams over, it's a f#%n nightmare........
  10. Where? let me know where to look and what prizemoney is on offer, this is the only racing jurisdiction on Gods earth that operates like this. If I could believe them at Petone I could leave our horses with our young fella, but I just can't believe them. I've only contacted Saundry twice, the first time he only answered me as he said the email had been referred to him by John Allen, however it was addressed to him, Saundry, with copy to the acting Prime Minister and John Allen. To their credit both the Acting Prime Minister replied to me as did John Allen mentioning he would be in contact with Saundry re the matter, and Saundry's reply to me left me in disbelief, until I read the post re his asking if horses gallop everyday. God bless the good ship NZ racing and all that sail on her, unfortunately it appears it's a Titanic and the deck chairs and musical instruments are floating in the water with survivors clinging for their lives.
  11. An Elephant Gun.........but seriously, there has been no accountability for a decade, it got worse and worse, it's a runaway train, even now. I was chatting to an expat trainer only yesterday and she's hopeful of getting at least 4 horses to train from couldn't care a less trainers in the Waikato.......so apathy and lack of accountability is rife. Pity though the poor battler getting up at 4am and driving hours and hours to race for 5k while a few office animals are arriving to their office at 9ish and leaving at 5ish and pocketing hundreds of thousands of dollars.......there are still quite a few of them you know.....anyone give a toss????
  12. Yep, all saddle, no horse!
  13. When you have a CEO that asked the question, do you gallop them every day, what chance do you have. In a country with your weather patterns, jumping should be paramount, with a carnival like Cheltenham. Promo's, advertising mainstream tele campaigns, faces, faces, did I say faces......Like Myers, Wheeler, Houston, Todd, etc etc.......it's always worked in the UK, it's in their DNA.......but it was allowed to sink in NZ, it's deplorable, for a country that churned out so many Olympic jumping champions maybe there are parallels that could be used, but is it all too late? Is jumping/s fate sealed? Those champion fencers of days gone by, came to Oz and kicked arse, went to Japan and kicked arse, USA even, and now? I don't see too many point to points being run, a cliche, but very poignant ........the good old days.
  14. Yep.......they've gone full circle, great trainers but everything else.....doomed.........My first runner ever won, in VIC, first runner in ADL won, track record, first runner in SYD ran 2nd and then won by 7 giving Dwayne Dunn his first winner in NSW.......let's hope my first runner in QLD keeps the stats going Curious.......I just had to have another go before I die.....or COVID gets me.....I just hope I remember what to do?
  15. They don't make them like that anymore, the only competition she had in my opinion was Vo Rogue, if you saw what Vic Rail fed him you'd need an asprin and a lay down. A few name trainers tried to 'pinch' Vo, reckoned they'd put lengths on him, you know what, I reckon if they had of tried conventional means, he would have regressed.......funny old world.
  16. They'd have to be laughing all the way to the bank wouldn't they, they've got more dosh in their bank accounts than NZ TAB I reckon. I know who's finished in front there and Bernies not finished yet.
  17. What, we were slow learners? supporting a great lady trainer? and an up and coming young trainer for 2 and 4 years respectively? You are probably right, we should have never done that, according to your doctrine, we should have just sent them straight to Oz? We should have known NZ was doomed, we should never have trusted what was put out in the press by Jackson, Purcell, Allen and Saundry, we did trust them you see Barry, poor fool us.
  18. Bid I think you are missing it altogether, I've said SAT class horses, if you have a SAT class horse why the hell would you race for 5K to the winner, thats rocks for brains stuff....if you have horses of limited ability you take whatever is on offer, thats a given......if you've got a good one, get it out to Oz or SING even, as long as you plan to repatriate from Asia. Tommy H has had some results already by getting his out, he's had enough....so have we.
  19. I imagine you imagining anything would be remarkable, ask your trainer if I trained from afar, at least now if I whinge the buck stops with me. All we did was try and support young talent there, and Ms R who sits just outside the young but nowhere near the old......the pale stale males are what ruined racing, and the young ones are suffering, what future do they have. If NZTR are delighted we are going, then so be it Barry, when you've tipped in what we have supporting the lost cause of NZ racing, let me know, I'll buy you a diamond bike.
  20. They should have Bid, but they didn't, they show no respect to owners, therefore we had to break the news to our terrific young trainer this morning that he will be one short as ours is booked on the outward bound flight.....2 to follow.
  21. Then you're rewarding mediocrity Bid, that attitude of defeatism is why you're in this mess. You knew you were going to race for 10k in all probability? did you warn your owners, and they were happy? The Pearl series is a joke in itself, do yourself a favour and read the QTIS bonus series and see how that runs, and just remember QLD has a smaller population than NZ......have a look at the pay up system for that, Oh and BOBS in NSW while you're at it. If you have a SAT class horse and you'll race for what we race for at NON TABS 1000k from BNE then you've got rocks for brains......as Freda alluded to, why would an owner commit to racing one or 14 there when the authorities wont/can't advertise a stakes program going forward. If you are a small owner/trainer with a business to prop you up, things are slightly different, but don't tell me who's sunk more than two million into racing in NZ that ''you accept it because it beats standing in a paddock' God almighty Bid, I'm nearly 70 and I'll never ever see NZ back to anything like it used to be....I cry for the place I knew well before you were born.
  22. Any owners out there questioning why you are racing for 10k in a R65 SAT at Awapuni? I bet when you accepted for the race you had no idea this would be your fate....if you did and you accept it, you know what comes next. How bloody deplorable, only the sycophants and easy beats would put up with that, I wont, I promise you...in fact I'll make a decision tomorrow to vote with my feet and pull the remaining horses we have there out, and onto Oz....much to the sadness and resignation of our struggling young trainer. Once the money runs out for stakes in a few months how many more will follow......you poor buggers, if the trainer wont speak up, do it yourselves...if you've got any......how the hell did it come to this, wool over eyes resonate perhaps?
  23. Don't be shocked, Deac was all that and more, very tough on apprentices, but just a brilliant horseman, taught us all well.
  24. I think Hawera 68/69, he was by My Pal and either MRC or JWW rode.
  25. I see Lisa has lost her good mare Sentimental Miss to Waller in SYD, would never have happened once, Lisa the victim of the state of NZ racing....and those that run it.
