  1. What a great nights racing in store for all. hope the crowd can still attend. Shame with STYLISH MEMPHIS being scratched as she has won Group 1 's in Australia . The NSW Oaks last year when steered by the exquisite Mark Purdon and the Ladyship mile group 1 driven by Jack Trainor of all people. !!!! With the Victoria Oaks heats run this week , the last years race went to Dr SUSAN from Nz , with Stylish Memphis 2nd. Question : What happened to Dr Susan ? does anyone know? Mark Jones is some sort of trainer alright , has the 2 year old MAJOR MEMPHIS in the last from the outside gate. ! still might win. and take a look at DENY EVERYTHING (from the pole in the 2nd last race ) back after a year or 2 off with 2 wins !!! well done Mark. Question 2 : Why doesn't Mark JONES have heaps of horses and runners.? He is A+ standard? although not sure why PLUTONIUM LADY can't seem to hold her form , when looking quite dashing on occasion. Good luck to all having a Punt !!!! (not expecting Nat to run down Marky boy in the big race lol.........)
  2. SELF ASSURED is one of the best horses I've ever seen . Memory refresher >>>>>>>> He won this race last year easily, then had good seconds to Spankem and CopyThat at Methven and Ashburton (2 Fab horses) and then Won the NZ CUP very easily by 3 lengths cruising, in 3.55 for the 2 miles . He'll win the Cup again this year !!!! He won 4 out of 4 as a young horse in Brisbane , beating Australia's best LOCHINVAR ART very easily. Tonight $2.40 odds on Sportsbet here seems very generous?? , with No Spankem or CopyThat around. I've been backing Self Assured at 9-1 for the Interdominion late in year for some time already, so hope he goes over ok. !!!!!! King of Swing is Fav for that but reckon Mark will cruise on by KOS up the Menangle straight, when the whips are cracking !!
  3. With great NZ interest this week in how AMERICAN DEALER performs in the Victoria Derby Heats , and the Prestigious Victoria Oaks heats are on as well. Here is a trainer who is matching Allstars in winning plentiful age-group Feature Group races. EMMA STEWART VIC 358 125 54 - 40 $1,977,667 45 $1,442,790 80 $534,877 Emma Stewart has 5 runners in the Derby Heats (all last start winners except one) And 7 Fillies in the Vic Oaks heats (all have won their last 2 starts !!! ( except one named TOUGH TILLY who ran 2nd to the stablemate LADIES IN RED at her last start) We can forgive TOUGH TILLY that loss though as she had won her previous 3 races, before that 2nd placing, including the first prize of $150,000 in the APG grand Final in 1.52.5 .earlier in year at Melton !!!! quite a sensational filly. Emma likely to qualify the FIrst 6 Favourite runners for the Vic Oaks Final !!!! on Saturday night at Bendigo from the 2 Heats. amazing. This year (2021 season) from that stat, above EMMA has won 125 races from 358 starters with 45 of them being Metro winners. a win every 3 starters but would be better than that if not for the feature race clashes. exceptional training.......
  4. na I wont be allowed. Brodsters new Bowling shirt.
  5. Just a shame to see it go up in flames , with the ethical issues. racing several uncompetitive horses. results yesterday saw 2 wins for Ben Yole in the 7 races from his 50 starting horses. 1 quinella. on a brighter note he gets drives and stable work for youngsters keen to have a go at the sport. And also impressing is Ben's brother Mark Yole, who is an exceptionally gifted driver . Drives a great race nearly every time , and would do very well on the mainland. yesterday Mark Yole had just three drives in the Hobart races, but won 2 races.!! as he does so often. They were the 2 horses he drove for other stables other than Ben Yoles !!!!! hehehe
  6. Gammalite more likely to take on Popular Alm in his day. Paleface Adios actually had Koala King to contend with a few years earlier, but from what I hear was a Top Bloke/horse. Are all the covid cases in Auckland Karrots? tragedy if they block crowd for Cup week way down at Christchurch. >...In Victoria, They are very likely to block them again for Melbourne Cup (public attendance) . Queensland now threatened with more Interstate Truck drivers testing positive. They have a 50,000 strong crowd booked for the NRL rugby League Final next week-end !! imagine calling that off for a few community cases!. nuts...
  7. Poor 'results' is what I see.... I don't know the bloke but I come from Tassie, and they now call it 'The Killing Fields" I disagree this is keeping Tassie racing going. This is possibly destroying it. ? Because you couldn't possibly support runners in these races , so punting must be minimal and public interest even less.... I'm a harness racing fan and can't stand Tas racing nor enjoy seeing it going this way !. Webberley and Barry Rattray used to put Tassie on the Map !! now it's just a remote Island for has-beens .... yes I'm sure the Yole 'Training Fees' would be 'smallish' maybe? , but how many Knacker Yard horses can you save? to race and run unplaced all the time? , then send back to the ................................ back-blocks. Yole is just Flooding most races with 'half competitve' horses. they just say...... 'Trains the most winners in Australia' ? to justify the strategy... 173 wins this year 2368 starts.
  8. You guys think things are Bad in NZ ? you ain't got nothing on Tasmanian Harness racing and Mr B Yole. I'm having mental Health issues just looking at the Tasmanian fields today , and having to Digest the Fact' that this bloke YOLE, with 50 horses racing Hobart today, is Australia's leading Trainer ???? good grief. very sad. How could anyone bet ?, or even a dollar on these things? . (hopefully no-one in NZ does) spose you just bet on the opponents, but who would watch this rubbish? What BEN YOLE does, Is load races with as many runners as possible to try and jag something >>>. The horse form is deplorable from his stable . You have to doubt 'whatever method' if Any at All that they use in training . must be going straight out of the freezing Tassie paddocks . here's a look at the form today. RACE 1/ 11 starters, 8 x YOLE runners are in with just 3 placings in total of the last 5 starts between them (1 win + 2 placings from last 40 starts) RACE 2/ 11 starters, 8 x YOLE runners in ......................... (1 win + 4 placings from last 40 starts ") RACE 3/ 12 starters, 8 x Yole runners in .......................... (2 wins + 6 placings from last 40 starts between them)) RACE 4/ 10 starters 5 x YOLE runners in ..........................(2 wins + 4 Placings from last 25 starts ") RACE 5/ 14 starters 7 x YOLE runners in ..........................( 0 wins + 2 Placings from last 35 starts between them) RACE 6/ 12 starters 9 x YOLE runners in ...........................( 4 wins + 2 placings from last 45 starts ) 2 wins from one horse ? , must be the good one !!!! RACE 7/ 8 starters 5 x YOLE runners in ...........................( 0 wins + 1 placing from last 25 starts ") so 10 wins from over 200 starts from this lot of 50 Horses recently , after having 66% of the field nearly all the time as well !! .and none even breaking 2 minute MR. Disgraceful .... ... how is that ranked 'The Best'? embarrassing best (at best)....... and the strappers must get tired too lol.....
  9. Hope they can Always Keep the NZ Derby as a Group 1 level ?? . surely the pinnacle for young stayers to reach. Occasionally the Victoria Derby has just nice progressive types , that don't win often at all. The last one (Derby last Nov) was won by an old AFL coach turned trainer , so something that all Trainers can aspire too. And still has enormous PRESTIGE. I can really understand the demand for 3200m at Auckland Cup level falling away. There's Just not enough two mile stayers around to support the race as a Group 1. I draw it in comparison with the time-honoured Brisbane Cup. I loved going every Queens Birthday holiday Monday for years every June to the 3200m Brisbane Cup. But as numbers dropped to compete in it , they dropped it back to Group 2 and only 2400m in 2007, and then ran it Stradbroke Day as an 'extra'. It Lost the PRESTIGE after that. very sadly. This year the Brisbane Cup went back to the 3200m to try and grab some Prestige back,, and it flopped again. only six starters!!!. Of course the IRISH staying import that was in it, won it very easily. Many of the big players in Oz (like Llyod Williams ) have destroyed much of the local hopes of breeding/owning a MC winner. Vow and Declare sneaked in one year for the locals by chance this century , but local 2 milers like Castletown, Empire Rose, Kiwi etc,,, just a distant memory now.
  10. A Funny Story for you Ludwig, in late Nov 1983 , a market gardener from Auckland took his gelding to Hutt Park for a BIG punt. It didn't come off . Down the track He finished much to the disappointment of all his supporters in Auckland inc myself. Thought the fields at Hutt Park would be weak , and he would win easily. But not to be....... Brian returned to Alexandra Park ,Auckland and the gelding blew them away by 3 lengths at his second race start. Roy Purdon and co proving No match for this now promising horse (that couldn't win at Hutt Park) Brian Notman then sold him for $40k to the aussies in the west. VILLAGE KID then rattled off near 100 wins and over $2,000,000.
  11. Of course She can do it !!!! What a fabulous win , and an 11/10 rated Drive by Mr Anthony Butt as usual , putting her right in the picture at the quarter and NOT leaving it too late, pure genius. Amazing Dream just wouldn't let the horse that followed her up get past ? She's as game as Gammalite or Pure Steel that used to be coming up 3 -wide to pour the Pressure On , and just Keep Going. !! she is amazing alright.
  12. Amazing Dream will have to be Top of her Game in the Big race coming up soon, the Victoria Cup. What a 'Stinker' of a draw tonight in the lower rated 80k Group 2 Kilmore Cup . Can she do it ? maybe. TRIPLE EIGHT in there too for NZ , also an awkward draw. But racing very well. Having a look at number 3 MALCOLMS RHYTHM, as been mixing It very well against Grimson, Trainor and McCarthy at Menangle lately , which is VERY hard to do, nice draw too in this, and at 40-1 sportsbet. so three good ones drawn 1-2-3 . Hoping they can 'Stay on the pace' and finish that way lol.
  13. Arapaho good (but left you broke it seems?) , so Rangatira has you Well Beaten Chief !!!! The NZ FFA on 3 occasions for Robalan, and not just beating Arapaho but defeating the mighty 'Young Quinn' as well. A true Super-Star !!! here's the photo of NZ FFA 1973 , (Arapaho a 'good' 2nd for you !) but not in picture. HEY !!! someone beat ROBALAN at Greymouth too !! Forest King ???? bet that was an upset ? lol......
  14. Right next door !!! lol..... Armalight could of jogged down in the sulky for a wee bit of excercise ?? ........
  15. Nz Cup, Nz FFA and Akld cup winning mare Armalight would run rings around Arapaho. She began her career at Westport (then Nelson). Isn't that same as Greymouth? nearly....
  16. Has the penalty been made yet or not? Are you unable to answer this? You have a set Penalty in mind. What is the charge? Incompetent driving? running and handling? What is wrong with you guys that you want a bloke to get such a LONG sentence who ran into a pocket? who drove well early part of race too. Trainor caused an accident and got 28 days. Ant's made King of Swing gallop in a Group 1 , got 28 days. Do you seriously think Cameron deserves 3 Months for running into a pocket ?? Happens all the time mate. Because of lack of experience , LENIENCY ???????? as I think Olivia should of got . And also a '8 drive a Day' driver SHOULD KNOW BETTER. maybe even get longer sentence ???? why sentence at all is the question??? . No harm done , but shoot me down again !!! (and poor Ross) some mate you would be,>>>>>
  17. It's a Catch 22. Harness Sport in decline as you say. You need betting to keep it going. Because of what we have been discussing , the Oz local 'sets' of drivers Oz small fields are enabling the results to be 'predictable' for some. The bets go on , the racing stays going. stewards know this as well as you and I and the important TAB. Occasionally they (stipes) dump someone out , Shane Graham did 2 years, Mathew Nielson who was a leading driver has just come back from something. Pitt and N Jack went out in Victoria , etc. NZ has very HONEST racing , so integrity very good . odd case like Temporale, or the ferguson one pop up, but even then ,those races was more of a 'help ' the stablemate win, rather than a betting plunge . (Which is my main Criteria of a Fixed race)
  18. Yes most local racing around Oz have their 'Set' of drivers, who can work things out well in advance. esp small fields like in Oz compared to NZ. Grimson and Trainor been under investigation the whole year. Jack Trainor just back from a month suspension for causing Big crash at Penrith , so they got young C Hart involved now lol...... Brisbane very good at setting races up. There is still big betting . from those 'In the Know' . so yes decline from any public or outsider interest is almost 100% lol... not called Red Hots for nothing. NZ on the other hand has a great Array of drivers per race !! so very hard to 'work' things out , and a lot of LUCK comes into the equation, as well as skill . like Sarah O'Reilly last Sun . very impressive. I offended some here on this thread because of supporting Mr Cameron , who to me , looked a good driver having a go , and doing a great job , (better than dubious Oz ones lol........ ) give him 3 months for trying ??? hehehe
  19. Stipes make their mind up as they see fit. I ALWAYS say blame the horse , not the driver. They can't answer back. And don't dob on your peers. I've been quite happy to defend Ross , by using KRUG example etc, but too much for you guys to suck on it seems. @Spatchcock . You can tell when a driver is trying or not , if you look closely enough. Ross drove that horse extremely well , in early part of the SAGINAW race, and landed a Plum running position. The Galah been doing a great job for some time spotting driving 'deficiencies' as like with 3 Barnes drivers in Brisbane. RACE 9 yesterday , at Albion Park the Claimer, had b barnes in action on a horse Taupiri and I have been following named SABRAGE. 'Dead as a Doornail' mr Teaz. WAY WAY worse than anything Ross has done , and won't even get a stewards mention. I know you won't watch the race replay but the Galah might. SUMMARY: Heavily backed favourite , lands 3 back running line (small fields are easy to plan) Sabrage driven by b barnes at 6-1 odds after being $1.60 favourite past 2 weeks against same field, drops to rail 3 back fence , when EASILY could of had the trailing position that the lovely Brittany Graham (from Sky racing) had , and of course she peeled off the 1-1 horses back and won very easily. Sabrage out late for 4th. b barnes not charged with anything pulling to inside. some folks made a nice quid from that race !!!! (and some others yesterday too I might add , lots of heavily backed runners saluting fine , and looking after the 'Punter' lol......) Don't think many kiwis got much out of SAGINAW on the other hand . Is he getting 3 months or not ?
  20. Hahha yeah lol.....a pom she is, must of thought she was an Aussie from having a star role in movie "OZ the GREAT and POWERFUL" lol....... I starred alongside Jack in a movie made in NZ. Directed by one of the best Mike Newell. Movie called BAD BLOOD it seems, sounds a good BOAY, or ALLSTARS or a solid NZ Harness racing movie . (after the blood spinning goes off) lol......... the 1981 theatre version with Jack, was about an NZ farmer who goes nuts and murders seven people . sounds gruesome.
  21. Four NZ Cup winners and an Oz Champ in one finish, will be very hard to beat....... We Could try this photo at Auckland ????(with total bias by me of course) with 2 Oz Champs, and 2 x Auckland Cup winning mares.?? (Bonnies Chance was in this race too, but met interference unfortunately) Delightful Lady (3rd here in photo) with 2 AKL Cups , Armalight (4th in photo here) with 1, and Gammalite won an Auckland Cup too. And how 'Nice' is it to see Vinny with Poppy running 2nd for a change !!! lol.........
  22. Just watched this morning ............ THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS what a magnificent film. filmed in beautiful scenery at of NewZealand lighthouse .(Cape Campbell in Marlborough) Fabulous scenery and settings ALL THROUGH the Movie from parts of NZ and Oz. It is set 100 years ago, and has great actors like Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikanda (his real wife, not just in the movie) Loved it !! with BryanBrown and JackThompson and Rachel Weisz turning up too, for the Oz input. Bit of a tear-jerker , Grab a box of tissues for sure !!, I'm still recovering from some bits of it. Brilliant !!!
  23. Not the only one either, You can't help but be envious of all the success and admire it too, The skill level they have obtained over decades is just through the ceiling level, and no-one can beat it. (very easily/often anyway) You see it at Grand-slam tennis (a few select players) , rugby Union with the Allblacks , etc, the winning can get almost repititious and turn some off unfortunately, like the Brodster watching Allstars lol......... . But ironically you CAN STILL WIN if a punting supporter like myself, on ALLSTARS whereas Allblacks and Tennis players too short in odds to invest on really. Getting ready for next collect. welcome home Mark !!
  24. No , some issues outside of harness racing. but even the best make mistakes. and even the best deserve a break . still winning during the break too. lol... AKUTA and AMAZING DREAM raking in the dollars. Can't keep a 'Good' team down. another NZ Cup coming up soon.
  25. Yes Brodster, you called it from the start at New Year. very good. Well you are discussing the countries Leading stable , so what they do does have impact on feature races, having won the last few NZ cups, Interdom's and Auckland Cups that you actually lose count. even if one would have to concede , because of that NZ harness participants are 'restricted' in what they can win. COPY THAT the only one getting close to them now. Classie Brigade did get NZ Cup 3rd 2 years ago, so some kudos for that. At least the Brilliant JEWELS DAY allows some others to get a BIG win !!!!! and another positive, aa Nat got her domestic issues sorted, HAYDEN CULLEN and his Missus got to play a bigger role for a short time and get some recognition (from us the general public) for their tireless fabulous, Behind the scenes work over a period that saw incredible results from the ALLSTARS stable past few years. Well done them!
