This is the area that needs to addressed and looked into how we can change them in to having an interest. I was at Awapuni a couple of weeks ago and went and watched the main race in the public area, there was one area there that looked to be a decent party going on but not one person even stopped to glance out at some decent gallopers going past them, they didn't even know the race was on I doubt. I suggested a few years ago at a regional meeting type thing about the need for a portable ticket machine for the big picnic days where groups of people a lounging around in the sun being social, they don't want to leave there conversation to go have a bet. Instead go to them and sell them a bet and not just expect them to go to the tote window. I'm sure with modern technology a portable ticket machine isnt too big an ask.

But they don't. They might the first year after there track shuts down, they may even be tempted the following year, but each year the numbers will become less and in 10 years time that region will be lost to industry. Kids haven't been dragged along by parents/grandparents and got hooked on the game and in time there won't be any punters left who fund the sport. Take something away from people they'll just find another hobby to fill the void.

Try to train a few, predominantly slow ones in recent times.
-
Why are they working them shinsore anyway?
-
May not be the point but talk to anyone who has a horse not getting a start for several weeks and paying training fees and they'd be more than happy to be running. If anything it's the opposite to giving them the finger, to me it's saying sorry we can't cater for your horse in your specified race but you can have this option if you like.
-
It's a case of having to run for all those horses in that race or risk not getting a run for weeks on end. I didn't pay up because I know we can get a run next week where most of those who did pay up might not. My owners and myself decided to only chucked in a nom on the off chance they got bugger all and have a go at the bonus race. Fortunately they have added another meeting in at Otaki in a couple of weeks so that should help things.
-
But there will be 14 horses who won't get a run, so they plan to go to New Plymouth next week or Hawera the week later so then putting more pressure on those meetings as there are already horses targeting those days, if they are low rated they once again miss out there so end up being several weeks without getting a run. I do think they should be advertising it pre nominations that if there were big noms then the lower graded horses would be running for the lower stake.
-
I had one nominated in it, it was known when the noms come out so you had the chance to withdraw or stay in and run in the 10k race if you chose to. I pulled out because mine was out of its grade as I only entered because it was a 25k pearl series race and just on the off chance it was small field. I disagree with your general comments about it, I think it is a good idea that you at least get a chance to run albeit for the smaller stake as it is still more than what you'll earn running around the paddock at home. Only thing I recon is if you were to win you should only go to rt65 and not have to go up to the next grade.

What about Chinchilla today $7500 stakes. Would midweek horses in NZ be much better than those going around there?
-
Is there any top 3 markets, ACT to jump the Greens and NZ1st I recon.
-
And Tauherenikau, Foxton? And dear I say it Waipukarau
-
Going rate. I'm $55 plus gst. How good. Trained a couple of handy ones. Honest. Think so.

Ashame they couldn't just have merged with Wairoa and had one big week there, Sunday Wednesday Sunday. As mentioned it'll just be another day at Hastings, no one cares who owns the raceday.
-
Oh well that will be a thing of the past now because it was all to do with getting the jockeys declared in time to make the print media.
-
I'm not sure how America racing operates exactly but are the tracks privately owned and they decide what and when they race? Avondale or any other club could just hold a race day, but just not run under 'nz racing rules'. I'm not sure on the betting rules and regulations in NZ but if a Corp bookie or two decided to back the club what would be the rules around them being allowed to take betting on it.

When the A&P show comes to town we go as a family and have a day out. If they take it away from my area I sure as hell won't be travelling out of the area to take the kids for a day out, we will just do something else.....

Common Sense? NZTR Announce Initial Stakes Money
Bid replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
I think you could get a horse who is already educated to go 2000 first up in about 4 months, probably could get it up quicker in say 3 months and it'll probably go well but you won't get many runs out of it in the prep IMO. Depends on the horse and what sort of facilities you have for fast work etc but I recon that is about a rough guide. -
She works for a punter, she can't say exactly what she does but it must be working because they have been doing it a fair while now. Maybe something similar to this book https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://watchingracehorses.com.au/&ved=2ahUKEwj_nozEzpPpAhUW_XMBHcYnBnkQFjAJegQIBRAB&usg=AOvVaw28eJNo0C2U5Fj4hBikZDaL It's a good read and pretty accurate imo.

Trainers' Association newsletter/ RITA response to questions
Bid replied to curious's topic in Galloping Chat
Certainly be interesting to see a list of each and every position at Rita/racinG board and go through and see how many can be eliminated/combined 2 jobs in to one so they can get some expenses down. -
Im buggered if I know what is going on then because all the recent articles you read are saying once horses begin working again on Tuesday?...
-
Hope you pulled up alright afterward?

Interesting comment regards Hobbs, first negative thing I've heard of him as most say he is the best CEO in NZ.
