Spot the difference: Newcastle track yesterday with a very similar weather pattern for the week - their biggest racing day of the year and Riccarton, which looks like its getting ready to be cut for lucerne, on it's biggest day of the year. Have a look at the jockey's boots. What could possibly go wrong????

I can recall one meeting in Hong Kong being postponed recently because of a hurricane / tornado warning for the region. I cannot recall one being for long grass and a slippery service. It is obvious that the "expertise" is not being asked for and when it is, being ignored by the CJC management.
-
Don't be too hard on Timmy Mills. After all, he can't control the rapid grass growth that Riccarton experiences every 24 hours. I just got sent this photo of Timmy in the home straight a few minutes ago. Poor bugger, he looks exhausted and famished from sitting on the ride on all night. It's ok Timmy mate......it will be all over in the next 24 hours......with any luck, and you will get to enjoy your exit remuneration..... and one question on the way out...what the fuck happened??

What a total fuck up of biblical proportions. I remember reading a month or two back how the NZTR were spouting off big time about how they were going to stop having so many meetings cancelled. They announced that by getting the top track managers to work with the so called "experts MARTIN COLLINS, all track problems would be minimal. How bloody ironic is that on MARTIN COLLINS NEW ZEALAND CUP DAY, the track is fucked and subsequently abandoned. You stupid idiots. The one day to make an impression and you blew it. They will be playing ring a ring a rosie round the Petone pie warmer this week in celebration.

Appreciate your support, I really do - your $10,000 to win a MILLION at the Call of the Card just now was BALLSY to say the least. -

Andrew Hawkins is a part owner of the Caulfield Cup winner. He has been a journo for many years, mainly in Oz and Hong Kong who this year writes the Betfair Cup preview. https://www.betfair.com.au/hub/racing/horse-racing/melbourne-cup-tips/ His assessment of my nag is succinct. If it's wet - NO chance. -

Apparently, and don't quote me if I'm wrong, we only have to run Top 3 today to qualify. Seems like a few people are having getting motivated. -

Appreciate your kind thoughts - although your use of the word "rooting" does bring tears of remembrance to my aging eyes. I note one of Oz's more popular tipsters has been getting some very sarcastic comments regarding the horse: -
For more years than I care to remember, in fact, since Adam was a cowboy and Eve was serving him drinks at the Immaculate Conception Bar in Queenstown all those years ago, I have been taking a couple of Fixed Odds bets with bookmakers in August / September on the MELBOURNE CUP. Hours of study would be spent going over the screeds of paper, the bookies used to post the odds out in the days before the internet, and on average, usually once every fifteen years on average, I would get a collect. Well, guess what, it's fifteen years this year and I'm feeling very confident that it's my turn AGAIN. However, there is a small problem with one of my two picks. He's still not certain of a start, in fact he has to win today to get in, but he looks a live chance and he has a Kiwi Melbourne Cup winning trainer putting the polish on, so we have a couple of lengths on the field in our favour. Climb on board - what have you got to loose, apart from money 😄😄😄

After reading this article about the club and it's annual report, there should be some very concerned members attending the AGM. The consultancy fees paid out suggest to connected people are outrageous, almost Mahuta like. https://www.lincolnfarms.co.nz/stories/atc-signs-deal-for-100-million-sale-of-pukekohe-training-centre-members-to-vote/

https://twitter.com/i/status/1575985720409395205 Turny, our resident legal lacky, will no doubt be wetting his pants over this incident that happened overnight and I cannot wait to get his highly qualified analysis of it. How long should this international recognised jockey have got Turney. Life? 12 months? 12 weeks?
-
"Unfortunately, the injuries sustained to Andrew, they're not life-threatening but they're significant," Bowman said. "I've been found careless and despite the fact of pleading not guilty, I am remorseful the incident happened. "I understand what we do is dangerous and split-second decisions can turn out to have bad consequences, as one has in this case." Stewards generally use a careless-riding template to determine penalty but that was thrown out the window due to the seriousness of the incident.
-
Certainly there is a case to say that some jockeys "see a gap" where others don't. They often only have a split second to make their decision, and sometimes there are awful consequences as a result of them. Hugh Bowman is one of those. How Andrew Atkins wasn't killed in this incident at Rosehill at Rosehill two years ago is a miracle. It was sickening to watch and, like Sam, many were baying for Bowman's head in the weeks after it happened. He got 6 weeks, which many in the industry thought was far too lenient but the stewards, in their wisdom, thought otherwise.

It is an interesting ruling and will no doubt be discussed over every stable morning tea table today. Robinson showed his true colours for the prosecution - I would suggest you don't ride at any meetings he is officiating at Sam when you return. On the defence side, King Coleman gave a very strong view of how he saw it, and his riding record would finish a few lengths in front of Robinsons on any given day. The bottom line is there are no winners here. We lost a fine young man who was admired by many.

Was never in doubt. My track spy in the Manawhatu says you've been running some slick sectionals for some time now. The opposition of course, was noticeably lacking much substance and their foreman was gasping for air in the saddling yard. Funny enough, I'm still waiting for an answer to a question I posed that same foreman a few years back, which resulted in heavy moderation and finally a banning. Did someone mention Singapore?

What a weekend. The Valley last night, Rosehill today and Flemington tomorrow....PLUS the semi final of the NRL last night, the AFL final today and the other NRL semi final tonight.....sprinkled with a couple of NZ meetings this afternoon, including a likely trifecta for the Embellish first starters at Ruakaka. I know, I forgot to mention the girl's test against Japan and the under achieving AB's against Oz. It's settle into your chairs and have UBER food delivery on speed dial time and a catheter and bottle is also recommended. This notice seen on the web seems appropriate: A Mate of mine has 2 tix to the AFL Grand Final in a private box Unfortunately, he didn't realise when he bought them that it is on the same day as his wedding, so he can't go. If you want to go instead of him, it is at 2pm at St Paul’s Catholic Church, Coburg and her name is Amy

Hey Joe, There's a certain fellow who is seriously looking at setting up on the GC. You can catch him at the races this week.

Hugh Bowman's ride in a race at Rosehill on July 30 2020 was nothing short of madness. How Andrew Atkins survived that is an absolute miracle. He got 6 weeks - should have been 6 years. JMO of course. https://wwos.nine.com.au/news/hugh-bowman-suspended-six-weeks-careless-riding-andrew-adkins-injuries-rosehill-fall/23dbe693-6c33-4165-9e5b-7627435588a7
