  1. Just been out to get a huge bucket of popcorn. This could be the most entertaining thread for ages. Remember that old saying Joe 'Don't squat with your spurs on".
  2. An amazing photo from Cambridge Stud taken in 1984 Can you name some of these guys ??? Barry Lee on right next to Adam Sangster. Marcus Corban also in there.
  3. Due to a horse slipping today’s race-meeting at Reefton has been abandoned following the running of Race 1. Bad luck Team Reefton. Hugely disappointing for everyone.
  4. They have copied and pasted the Oz bookmakers odds, so no effort for them there, but consistently they do not post the NZ next day odds until after 4.00pm the day before. Why you may well ask. My belief is that until they have eaten four pies for morning smoko and then get back to the Petone office after a long lunch and ten pints, paid for by the punter, they are too blotto to be able to work their computer mouse and go to sleep, setting the alarm for two minutes to four, just before afternoon drinks in the cafeteria. At four o'clock....up they go.
  5. "WHO LET THE DOGS OUT ???" No-one. It was a non-starter.
  6. Well said 99. I agree with the vast majority of what you have written. Your point about leadership is the most salient one, in my humble opinion. In recent times, the man at the top has been a licorice assortment of Australian rejects, and everyone of them were totally bloody useless. At least we now have a Kiwi who has had a bit of pedigree in the game, who is approachable and listens and seems, to all intent to want to bring about some change. His problem is convincing the dullards in Petone that change is good - they have been brain washed, after years of working in a government bullshit bubble, that change is not necessary to keep the tax churn budget on target. Ask any of them to point out the Dock on a horse, and they would be all at sea. They wouldn't have a clue. I like your positivity and I hope it rubs off on many of the younger members of the industry. This old dog has lost his zest for NZ racing. My tail wags when the Aussie maiden races are worth $24,000.
  7. The current lot in Petone are sadly lacking in any "racing reality mentality". Many are from many years of previous Government department roles which immediately stagnates any original thought initiative. It's a sad situation which is becoming more transparent by the day. Dim and direct less dullards running a once great industry into the dirt.
  8. May this holiday season be one of peace and relaxation and pavlova and cold ale and lots of success on the punt. Santa sent me an email saying Pam's horse should run in the first three this arvo but he was extremely confident that the "Bugle" would fill our wallets in the last this evening at Sandown.
  9. Keep at em Bazz. The bastards don't like it up em.......
  10. No, don't do that. You would slobber over the scones.
  11. Totally agree NOD. The only reason I can see is too try and increase the field size to gain increased turnover. and that is in no way guaranteed. It's another example of the circus in action and totally not fair on those owners and trainers, and horses, who were prepared to travel last weekend.
  12. I'm confused Chief. Are you baking scones at home or indulging in some K Road sauna activities. Seems to be far too much rubbing for scone making.
  13. There were rumours, and I stress these were rumours, but from very solid sources, that Mr Neal had been having many cups of tea with a well known trainer's wife in the CD. Straight black apparently - no milk and definably no strainer. It simply confirms the unwritten law that Chief Stipe John Schreck wrote in the NSW rule book back in the day. RULE 69: If I want to shag your wife, there will be no interference from you and no swabs will be required.
  14. Just got this email from our trade supplier. By the end of Summer, this country is going to be well and truly stuffed - there won't be any discretionary cash to have a punt. High Market demand continues to put pressure on freight, materials, and labour costs, which are being passed on. We try to keep any necessary price increases to a minimum and communicate these to our customers in advance. Please find below a list of our future price increase notifications. (Please be advised these are estimates increases provided by our suppliers and are subject to change) Suppliers include, but are not limited to. Based on truck selection, labour required and destination, your friendly team will provide a quotation.
  15. That start date is being highly optimistic in my opinion. Civil contractors are months behind due to loss of experienced staff (mainly to Oz and the new workers are taking time to learn the ropes) and the very wet weather we have been having. It's typical of the way things are in NZ. In my industry, only one in 20 new houses is being built in brick. Why?/ There are only two brickeries left in NZ - the majority of bricks are being imported from OZ. Consequently, there are very few brick layers left in NZ. They have all gone to OZ or retired or changed vocation. And add in the wet weather and those that are left are months behind. Awapuni might get completed by the end of 2024 at best.
  16. That "old boys" network is alive and well in Canterbury. Chris College, St Andrews and St Bedes. The solicitor set is like the mafia. The very small circle of people who benefited from the Rolleston growth made eye watering amounts of cash. In the know = in the dough. Pitty is pissing into the north wester, but I totally admire his action. Unfortunately he will get wet trying to deal with those old boys.
  17. You are not too old Michael. Sell up. pack up and take Mathew, your staff and your team to OZ....and do it now. The NZ industry is donald ducked and there will not be change here for decades. All those who have faith in Petone or McAnulty are deluded.
  18. After a decade of discussion and banter on the various racing forums, one gets attached to the different personalities and viewpoints. Our beloved colleague Thomarse has not been heard from for some time and naturally there has been widespread concern to his whereabouts. Fear not. I found him. Turns out he has been following his beloved All Blacks and for some reason he found the need to invade the pitch. He certainly looks in good nick.
  19. Oh for fuck's sake you dickheads. When we asked for one of your NZTR Regional Track Inspectors to give us the big tick before our upcoming Cup Day, we didn't expect this........
  20. Give us your honest opinion of driver J Cox please Forbury. None of your usual insinuation type stuff. Give it to us straight....plain and simple.....can the bloke drive or what????
  21. Congratulations Pam and Brent. Well done.
  22. Don't open your mouth Tim. There's NOTHING you can say to fix this issue.
  23. In view of a audio report from myself to clients in regards to jockey Blaike McDougal I wish to publicly apologise to Blaike for this unprofessional and unacceptable behaviour toward him. I have also privately done this. Unlike the client Blaike will continue to be part of MR
