Just to add there is no reason not to can Hastings on Jan 1 just like they did to Waikouiti and then hope Wairarapa does better without the distraction,probably only one good day needed at new plymouth as well,some of the jockeys must hate small race programmes,more races mean more rides which makes better economics. -

In some ways the dates scheduling in the South Island is better but I think Wingatui should have had another race on boxing day. -
If you stay long enough you will be early for next year.

Ive heard hardly any races in last few days,watched a few when I'm around,even tuned into rova app to hear last race at gore but overall the audience or numbers following must have dropped off.

A lot of no brainers making decisions,one thing I'm bemused about was the statement regarding Gore that it was something to do with no fibre optic cable or something yet it seems to work fine for the racing club,racing ain't dead and buried yet,this time of year shows that,Westport,Gore,Omakau,will carry on as always,just the same as Xmas.

Riverton have 9 races programmed,I think Wingatui with 8 and lots of ballots could have run another,sometimes the public might get a little shortchanged,9races seems a good number,9 for Kurow as wellstrange programing with Taranaki racing twice but only 7 races on day 2,maybe some room to run 3 or 4 trotting races like they are doing at new year further south.

Not one Southland trained horse at Kurow and 7at Washdyke from only 2 stables,obviously they are looking towards Riverton and for the Cantabs that don't go there can focus on the Coast,no Waikouiti may change some strategies..

On a day like today it's got to be reducing the numbers following races,many people out and about just not bothering this year,you do wonder long term if this is smart.

Who's got him now? Just to add ,Dennis O Connells old war horse Alexy will tomorrow set a record for most races ever,everytime he races from now on he sets a new one.

They have jammed those days in tight,no room for error as in weather.

Kind of funny Riverton getting a new year day when talk of closing course,I think they have raced at new years before,always when Omakau was about the 10th of jan Southland had some new year racing.

Very few meetings in Canterbury following cup week,very few at Ashburton last week,spose Timaru and Kurow will suffice for a while,Waikouaiti and Omakau gone as numbers for both meetings dwindled in last year or three,Riverton might be a good day,all 15000 races but will probably just be Otago south runners,or maybe not,as for the coast, numbers will be interesting.

No they will be queing up at the foodbank for a xmas roast spud. His hot tip has gone cold. Assuming it is a he,might have been an old lady just spending up her cash before family get it lol,mind you if you were gambling to get rid of all ya money everything would probably win. I might try that philosophy,no other one has worked before lol.

I had a laugh the other morning back to zb again,guy rung up saying the day before he went for a morning run,70kms,7 and a half hours,I wonder if that was one way,then I spose he had to turn around and go back home again.

On a more mundane note I was listening to zb in the small hours,some old lady rung,she was so hacked off there is no trackside radio these days,I'm sure there is a silent majority of race fans feel the same,just a comment to change course from intercourse to racecourse.

Frank was the name of the guy in a comedy called some mothers do have em,it was around in the seventies,funny at the time,I've actually got two CDs of mr spencer,there was some of his clips on you tube but alot have seemed to have dissapeared,not everything that is on you tube stays there,either is a copyright issue or people just take it down.
