Karrots, what is wrong with discussing topics that relate to racing? This Covid is more important than harness racing at the moment as if it continues this way, forget about racing happening at all. It is great that you are an enthusiast and want to discuss harness topics. Your perogative and I respect your right. However, I am more concerned about my fellow beings health being compromised than who wins the damn NZ Cup this year. Fair enough Davis, if people want to be excited about Cup Day at home. It is going to cost the industry heaps and must affect the industry coffers going forward. Just wont be that great with only a small number on course and business get togethers aint happening this year.

Apparently according to a government agency media announcement, the number of suicides have dropped slightly since last year. Karrots, with respect, there arent really too many people interested in the NZ Cup this year, so you wont get much interest. There is not going to be patrons oncourse so it is a bit of a yawn really. Great that you are trying to get people enthused with Cup Day but you are pushing it uphill, as there are far more important things happening to NZ and Australia. Although it isnt going to lineup due to injury, who couldve possibly thought that Copperhead Rose wouldve ever started in a NZ Cup?????

To put it into perspective, there are many poor drives at every meeting. Amateur races are exactly that, they are a betting medium that you can take it or Leave it , you take your chances. I don’t bother with them nowadays but what I would say is that most of the drivers are real enthusiasts. Fact is that they have more brains in that they work outside of the industry where the dollars will be better and workload generally easier. The biggest problem with the race yesterday is that all of the horses are past their best and lack too much ability now.

Chief, Cup day is a huge source of revenue for the Club and also employs hundreds on the day. Yes the costs will be much reduced but the markup on the hospitality is massive and will leave a huge hole in the income for the year. Will agree to disagree that it is going to be a major loss to the industry both monetary wise and to increase interest in racing from potential newbies.

This year running it will be a major loss for the Club, workers and the economy And for what? A controlling freak that does not give a rats. Not a death in NZ nor a case on the South Island of the deadly virus ffs
