  1. I note that Mark Purdon and Olivia Thornley were fined in race 2 Last night for excess use of the whip. $300 and $400 fines for what? If you watch the replay, you will see that neither of them were a actually hitting their horses with much force at all! This 10 hit rule that Edward Rennell brought in without much support or common sense, would have to be one of the most stupidest rules introduced into any business or sport!! It is long overdue that HRNZ changes the stupid rule back to what it was previously, and was working! Phil Holden, you havent done anything yet, how about seeing sense and overturning it, but why would you want to do anything that is for the betterment of harness racing, when you get paid for just being there for a few hours a week? Are we still awaiting the stakes distribution that we were promised to happen this week?
  2. Westeros certainly hasnt got its mothers ability. Gave Korbyn Newman a very difficult drive, and has got absolutely no early speed. Would need to improve a helluva lot to win another race, however you would think it would not be having many more starts. Why on earth the TAB had it opening at $4.80 to win is mind boggling?
  3. Happy, we may well be the minority, however the people that I have known for a long time that are enthusiasts, are just not bothering punting nor going oncourse. Racing is struggling and can not see the lefty government bailing out racing again, as Peters will not be around with cap in hand, The Greenies want rid of the pokies as well, so that will stuff Auckland. Racing is on the ropes u fortunately and wouldve been on the canvas, had it not been for the handout from the taxpayer! Where is Phil Holden’s announcement?
  4. I actually thought that Addington racing twice weekly would be good, as kt ks a very fair track. However Brodie hasnt been on the money on this one! The Bookies are posting shorter odds than they should and so I can not be bothered. Yes we need different tracks for variety cos Purdons domination is tedious, they may as well just pay them out
  5. Happy, I am the same, can not be bothered with their pathetic odd setting! Sods Law,I really liked but at $2.05 into less than $2.0 for a horse that had not placed on an allweather track in 15 starts, is blatant buying money! The TAB Bookies are being absolute tossers with their odd setting, and are Not Driving Turnover!! The tote turnover is so low now as punters just can not be bothered and will get worse as the unemployment rate climbs in the next month or so. The racing with the AllStars involved is just a borefest with the team driving and also filling all the dividend bearing placings that they have several horses in! When you have your best trotters and pacers racing with 5 or 6 horse fields, you know things are just not flash! Do not think the harness racing industry is going to flourish going forward unfortunately, and we seem to be waiting for Mr Phil Holdens speech arent we?
  6. There is a distance you are allowed to gallop for, used to be 150metres, and less than 50metres in the last 200metres! What I do know is that It did gallop for more than the 110metres that Nowornever says!! It galloped from the start until it went out Of view on Trackside so if if it wasnt 150 metres it was 149M!! The only way it didnt gallop for 150 metres is if they allowed the early stages to be classed as it being in a trot, even if it was very rough. If they didnt count that then it was 150metres!!
  7. Fair enough, did look a lot more than that on trackside!
  8. Fighting Fire the hot favourite was the winner of race 1 tonight at Addington. It went fantastic bearing in mind it galloped fo most of the home straight, after the start! Could someone enlighten us all what the current galloping/ breaking rule is for early breaking? It was hard to see exactly when it did actually trot but it appeared to gallop for at least 150 metres early on. Yes it was the best horse in the race by performance, but we have very few enquiries nowadays, so we need to get it right don’t we?
  9. Question I pose is why do the Bookies always open their Fixed Odds markets so damn short? I always look at the harness odds on opening and without fail most of the horses with a chance of placing are opened at less than fair value!! From my unbiased point of view, this is hardly going to drive turnover!!! Great that the odds are brought out the night before the meeting, but if the odds are too short and they are going to lengthen the odds out the next day, why would most punters bother until the odds are lengthened? Yes there is money wagered early if punters want to get on in case others get on first! However, it just doesnt make sense to leave it till far later to encourage wagering!!! If you are running a book, they should be encouraging as much money on as soon as possible, and adjust the odds according to the wagering! There are many horses in a few of the races tonight, that are just so far under fair value, and therefore not worth the risk of offloading! What I have noticed is that horses that should be at say $3 for a place they will be at $2.0 for most of the time and then not long before race start time they lengthen to more like what they should be! By this time the agency has closed or they are not at the PUB TAB to back it, and they certainly are not oncourse!! The NZ TAB are grossly restricting turnover and this so called “Driving Turnover” that Phil Holden mentioned is just a load BS!!!! Punters are being turned off punting and many former regular racegoers, are just not bothering with racing anymore, and no new punters are coming thru. Unless the NZ TAB sort their shite out, racing in NZ is dead in the water!!!
  10. It was only 14 seconds away from the second to Last horse, Ranga
  11. Ranga, it finished last!
  12. I believe it will need far more than the Korbyn Newman factor to get the horse around without galloping. At least many sill be watching just to see if “the Brodster” gets egg on his face, however as everyone knows, Brodie is always on the money!
  13. Seems like a wee bit of money for no. 1 Missy Moo! 21 into 11 seems like a pretty good move for this horse, trained by Trent Yesberg. Where there is smoke there is fire as they say! Had a couple of 4th placings at the trials as a preparation up against some good trotters but led up both times and run down. It is questionable if it has been impressive enough to be offloading first up on those two trials? If you are having a go tonight then good luck to all.
  14. We are still waiting for the stakes distribution to harness are we not? End of the week and nothing! Mr Holden?
  15. They are having you on! Let them spend the money with a barrister! Courts are way too busy to be worried about something posted on a racing forum!!!
  16. Hasnt blood spinning been banned? Not that there was anything untoward in it though! They are going crap though, although anything can win at Palmy, and even Spitfire would probably be semi competitive up there!
  17. Seriously. This is not America! No one is going to bother suing anyone for anything in NZ, it costs far too much and for what? Winnie tried for a nest egg re his Super overpayments and look what it cost and for what? Everyone take a chill pill, we got bigger problems with this incompetent government! Geez Chief, can you take this down, Cindy might want to sue me!
  18. And miss the Allstars obliterate the opposition, Happy? 6 horse fields, $1 divs, why would you miss that? Westeros at $4.80 big bets coming in on it?
  19. Good to see a professional driver on! Matty Williamson not driving at the meeting?
  20. There is very little chance that the horse will begin without galloping, let alone win! Seriously, where on earth do the Bookies get their odds from? The horse has been going horribly, Not even going away behind the mobile! Not getting close since it won its maiden a couple of years ago, and no decent trials that I know of, and $4.80? The reality is that The Bookies odds are only lengthened out to where they Generally should be, far too late to be able to back something, other than oncourse. No point on account!!
  21. The NZ TAB bookies or accountants have Opened up Westeros In Race 5 at Addington on Friday night at $4.80 to win? Are they kidding, or do they know something that No one else including the horse knows? The horse has won once from 15 starts and no other placings apart from basically 0! Yes the horse may have shown some ability at stages but normally is erratic and certainly hasnt looked like winning for a long time and the Bookies open it up at $4.80 against multiple race winners! I appreciate that the horse has changed stables and the beach training may help but seriously major major unders! A tip for the NZ TAB Bookies, if you are looking to be driving turnover, you are not going to be doing this by continuing to post odds that are just so ridiculously under what they should be. Can Westeros win? Couldnt see it from the unruly and against better performed horses. Westeros has got ability but how on earth would the NZ TAB expect anyone to support Westeros at $4.80???
  22. Had been wondering about that as well, although “next Week” has not finished yet! Auckland are racing for better money than they were and yet no announcement? They say they are able to pay the increased stakes out of their Pokie money which is clearly a good earner for them, Problem is, that if our Lefties/Greenies have their way, there will not be pokies around, as they think they are the root of all evil, and the vulnerable are tested!!!! That will put the cat amongst the pigeons for many hospitality industries and sports wont it?
  23. Lol, I would suggest that the owners are not getting any value, even if they arent paying training fees!!!!!! Reality is that it is not anyones galloping pacemaker, unless someone can confirm otherwise. If it was Mr Faulks galloping pacemaker then I would kindly suggest that they leave it as such, as it is certainly not a successful racehorse! To continue to race a horse with Such limited ability as a 7 year old gelding is crazy! The gelding clearly doesnt enjoy racing and I would suggest that it Is not a GP and wouldn't like being a galloping pacemaker!! If it was, then surely it would be a helluva lot fitter and stronger than it currently is???
  24. Do the owners really need to be paying out for a horse that can not run? I prefer the loose class racing as a punting option as well, however the point of the post was to query the logic in owning a horse that is not good enough to be at the races!
  25. So about time Averos Spitfire had a fan club if the owners are going to continue to shell out! Maybe start up a Givealittle to pay for the costs?
