Adam Hamilton really spruiking up Chicago Bull, hope the Aussies all come over as we certainly do lack depth in nz at the moment Globe!
I haven't been looking or heard any reports about u machete, anyone know when they are considering starting him?
Just looked it up, I had totally forgot about that 2yo race at waimate, they got capacity fields every year and some really good horses, funny to see in the 1982 golden slipper, Roydon Glen finished 14th and Naval officer 15th!
Nice horse el jefe only had 10 starts before being exported to America, he ran into some top horses, the likes of Mel's boy, enterprise, hilarious guest and Norton in his 2yo year........we certainly have gone backwards in a big way in NZ, not just in the stakes department!
It has gone on long enough, to much smoke and fire for Cole.....Too many wrong un's working with animals in all codes now, greedy at the expense of the animals and the very people that provide their Livelihood.
I don't think it was as obvious as it is now, there were stacks more trainers in the North, and the big spoils were shared around, and not having a satellite stable in the South meant Southern trainers dominated in the South! Thats My memory of it anyway, so could be very wrong!!
Always something new around the corner happy, until it's detected and banned!!....A real shame people have to stoop that low to get an advantage.. and the 2 most important things that keep the industry alive i.e horses and punters are the ones that suffer in the long run!
But there are still many more successful trainers in NSW and Vic racing than just weir and Waller! the pool of trainers is a lot smaller in harness racing and is more obvious here, I see Emma Stewart only Won 2 of the big races last night at Melton another dominant force in harness racing.
I do remember a much loved Trotter in the 80s Zachariah, won 6 races but from the age of 8-12 had nearly 50 starts and earnt one check for a 3rd, someone got a lot of joy watching him run!
What I don't get is why the tab is willing to show so many overseas races, and especially when alot are non broadcast races where the trifecta pool gets to a measly $70 who bets on these races??? There is far too much product out there and for me is a real turn off....... how is this helping nz clubs when turnover is being diverted from our racing/trotting clubs. It would be interesting to know what the Aussie punters invest on our racing, I wouldn't have thought very much!
Funny you say that, I was in South Africa a few years back and went into one of their tabs in Durban in the morning and they were showing and betting on Aussie harness racing, and I'm pretty sure they were betting into the supertab pools....
There used to be a lot more trainers, owners, hobby trainers etc, so I would have thought it must have been more attractive to be involved 30 or 40 years ago...I wonder where,/when/why it all started going sideways......
