I doubt it. Most of his opposition in that race were struggling to beat 1.59 . Wont get it that easy once the opposition gets tougher and has to come from behind or be taken on in front. Over hyped might be the catch word here, plenty of naturally quick horses out there. Get it down to 1.47/8 and I might take notice.

Got a soft spot for AG,s Whitesocks , very honest horse , good stayer, and would love to see the Hopes win it, or any one other than ......well we know who. I know T Herlihy is upbeat also after problems with Star Galleria last season, maybe an upset.?

Was given another 10 bucks by the TAB, today. Thought Karita off of the pole in race two was a nice bet at 14,s, after wide draws . Wouldn't score up and 50 plus mtrs behind letting them go. That basically said don,t bother , with my own money. Good luck guys.

From the horses mouth above Hunter. We have very good people in charge. Anyone interested should contact us.?

I don't know how you live in a zoo like Sydney, in fact anyone for that matter. I was married in Campbelltown way back in 74 and you could fire a bullet down the main st back then and not hit anyone. Now, well it beggars belief. Used to go to Fairfield trots as well and Penrith. Went to Wentworth Park dogs once, only once. Might as well have handed my money over at the gate and gone home. Who ever invented dog racing should have been shot, probably the same guy that invented golf.

Im in the syndicate/s that owns Father Christmas, and he has been a good horse . No champion but winning 17 races is no mean feat. It is over his pet longer distance this time , but having said that he surprised us last time leading all the way over a sprint. Do you attend Menangle at all?, or do you find it sanitised like I do after years of going to Harold Park.

Where abouts are you based Dougie.? In Melbourne by the sound of it.

There is also the numbers game. Melbourne , Sydney, Brisbane have millions of people, Perth nearly two million. Lots of discretionary income to spread around. And dont forget they have to compete against AFL, League etc so its no easier. With so many other forms of entertainment here ,they are pushing it uphill with such a small population base.

The gradual decline of harness racing
globederby12 replied to Flagship uberalles's topic in Trotting Chat
You would have to think that they consider a trip with our top ranks being weak.Grand circuit horses being fit and race hard might have it over ours with a lack of racing opportunity's . We do it to them often enough at age group level, maybe its payback time. -

On the other hand in the Trotting ranks we could be in for some stirring contests. Monbet( if he stays sound), Sundees Son, Majestic Man, Massive Metro, Lemond etc. Chuck in Tornado Valley if he makes a trip over here, and of course our excitement machine Dark Horse who,s due back soon , and maybe a top three yr old and it gets exciting. -
Yeah, he was pretty "dark" after being told he was restricted.

Brodie, I agree on the Purdon barns alleged use of BS, and the turning of a blind eye to its alleged use by those authority's in charge. We have felt the impact of this first hand. Having said that I feel no I'll will towards the Purdons, they are only pushing the boundaries within a bent system . Hopefully that may change.!! What hasn't been established is the fact of its legality in the first place, either by the rule book or knowledgeable posters on here for instance. I stand to be corrected on that one. So before we acuse other trainers of some impropriety in its use , we need to start with the cold hard facts. Start with the truth and truth abounds, start with innuendo and presuppositions and you end up as Harewood States ,Libel.
-
Well he can actually, because someone running the show let's him . Unsubstantiated claims and innuendo are everyday fare for someone with no active part in the Industry either physically or fiscally as far as I can tell , apart from being a complete twat on here.
-
Maybe, just maybe he has become a better trainer with improved methods. Has that crossed your one track mind at all Brodie. DUH

I will take the 3 bucks place money thanks, getting close to a double digit winner, all around it like a mad woman's shiiiteat the moment. Race one was interesting . That Sweet Lou horse ,Spirit of Saint Louie flew the gates , very impressive and way overs considering his trial form. The Sweet Lou,s look good so far.

Monday Night Viewing - Miracle Mile 1980
globederby12 replied to Happy Sunrise's topic in Trotting Chat
To be honest, you couldn't replicate those days no matter what track it was now. I watch Menangle at times( we lived in Camden for a while) and there is something intrinsically missing. The only word I can think of is Sanitised. Devoid of a soul. I think Glouchester Park is great, probably because everything is compact , up close and in your face. Harewood and I went to the Inters there and it was a brilliant atmosphere. -
Yep probably agree there. Race 5. Esther Jacka.
-
Mark ,if you are listening or read this , can you give , before you depart ,some quick lessons in repartee and humorous injections of race calling to someone up North who we all love dearly but is still dressed up with no where to go. All the best in your future en devours, you will be sadly missed. Travel well.

Monday Night Viewing - Miracle Mile 1980
globederby12 replied to Happy Sunrise's topic in Trotting Chat
Had a lot of History and way back in the early 70,s I was there every Frid night with my pay packet in tow. Story time: First night there I had no idea what to expect, so I spent the first 3/4 of the night taking notes, as I spent most of my teens at Hutt Park. It was a tight track and no passing lanes back then, but with bookies ,great views of the track and no rain (aka Hutt Park), I was in seventh heaven. Finally I picked an ex Kiwi by the name of Kiwi Lad paying 16,s and off the front, and home it rolled, with 20 or 30 bucks on the nose. Three weeks pay right then and there. Needless to say , being young and a bit wet I expected that to happen almost every time I picked something to win. PPhhtttt. During the 1973 Inters at Harold Park( which I went to on every night) I got talking to some Greeks and Italians who like me sat roughly in the same place on racing night. It transpired they were in the know, as they had backed Hondo Grattan well before the series at phenomenal odds. On finals night I couldn't help but enjoy the screaming emanating from them as Hondo got up to beat Royal Ascot(who incidentally I had along with Arapaho). That whole series was standing room only, it was packed to the gunnels and still remains my Fav memory. On top of that ,at the time of the series I was working for a Plumber from Harbord (near Manly) and we were doing some terrace houses up in Glebe, just nxt to the Park. For those who know the area it is very compact and behind the Park were a series of alleyways between small terraced homes. One particular day while strolling down one of the alleys, I heard and saw a horse jogging along with a cart behind it. Having watched and said hello as it passed , it was only much later I found out it was in fact Hondo Grattan. Turnbull used to jog it around the back alleys before and during the series, obviously keeping it quiet ,which was reported in the papers afterwards. Thanks for the tip buddy!!!. -
