Happy Sunrise
So it is back in NZ. What will the effect on the industry be if racing has to stop again. Bit of a worry.

Too concerned about individuals feelings and now the country will pay, possibly very heavily. 15 minutes ago, Nowornever said: It's more than a mess it's a disaster now Don't worry 'be kind' is back in use, I'm sure that will control the disaster possibly about to happen.

Agree, but apparently by law they can't stop them returning, which seems bizarre, latest cases nothing to do with returnees, who knows, had a friend that got hit in the head by a flying bottle of omega 3 capsules the other day, he's ok, just suffering a few super fish oil injuries.
Chief Stipe
We could never completely close down our borders. International law prevents it. For a start what would happen to diplomatic travel? That is constant and necessary to keep New Zealand operating in the world. What about the export and import of goods? The last time I looked aeroplanes and ships need people to operate them and load and unload them. Unfortunately the Government has sold us (well not all of us) a line that was never ever sustainable. A bit like RITA really. New Zealand cannot function as a completely isolated island nation waiting for some miracle Covid-19 cure. The first Level-3 and Level-4 lockdowns have to date cost us over $100 billion! To put $1 billion in perspective. One billion horses nose to tail would circle the earth 59 times! We are borrowing $77 million dollars an hour! $2 billion a day! As a country our only way of paying that back is to trade be it produce based or human based (e.g. tourism and education). At $2 billion dollars a day you can't keep our borders closed for very long. No our only option now is what we should have done in the first place. Take a non-isolationist approach and MANAGED the pandemic. Not put our heads in the sand. The 80,000 deaths prediction was a lie and has proven to be one. In Sweden the same model said 96,000 (even though they have twice the number of people as us!) and they have had under 6,000 deaths. If they had managed aged care facilities better then that toll could have been conceivably half that or 250 fatalities/1 million people. That would equate to 1,250 deaths in New Zealand NOT 80,000. That would have taken our yearly death toll from 45,000 to 46,250! 1
Joe Bloggs
A few weeks ago here on the Goldie, there were 4 bus loads of Chinese tourists seen outside a large hotel, no one will explain, how, and why. If it's happened here, it's happened there.......telling the truth, nah, human beings, it's not doable.
Roman
I just want to know why 10 days ago adverts on t.v. starting saying we needed masks... and then now we have it in the community? Also why Tauranga hospital and whakatane hospital shut down. Conspiracies are flying. Brodie
The sooner the sheep realise that they have been following the most incompetent Government in NZs history the better. they have achieved nothing that They campaigned on. You are deluded if you think they are worrh voting for!

And how long do you think NZ could have remained as the North Korea of the South Pacific? I'm pretty much with the chief here. If it's a choice between (i) a new normal of the NZ government ordering a lockdown every few months for the foreseeable future and (ii) the Swedish approach, I say "Go ABBA!" It may sound a bit hard-hearted, but that's better than being soft-headed.
Nowornever
Well it was either one or the other. A bob each way was never going to work. If it is a matter of when the virus gets here not if as they are saying, why ruin the economy with lock downs in the middle of it all. The Swedish method may well be the best approach time will tell. Lock up the oldies and let everyone else continue to operate as per normal would have at least saved my kids and grandkids having to pay for this mess for the next 50 years.

Brodie
We have to realise that this virus has not actually killed anyone in NZ! We have had 23 die mostly that have been rest homes, 13 of the 23 from the one dimentia rest home! Some didnt even test positive to the virus!!!! Have been told that already the suicide deaths due to Covid19:is much higher, however this small detail wont come out from this Govt. as they just want to have everyone shit scared! Of the 4 from the family from South Auckland, are any of them in hospital? Yeah Nah!, If this coalition of nillers is going to close the country everytime there is a case, then we might as well all jump off a cliff!! Time to take this approach and attitude. The government have shown reasonably consistently that they can't manage the border so we are wasting our time trying to keep it out. If they were really serious about stamping it again, Rotorua would have been in lockdown for 3 days. They are wasting their time in Auckland if even one person has contracted it in Rotorua. If they decide to go back to Level 4 after it has got out again I think they could lose the election or their popularity at the least. Will racing continue in Level 3? No real drama having no crowds at Level 2, Australia showed they can manage racing while the virus is out there. We should do the same otherwise racing may be crippled even further. Happy Sunrise
Ardern talks a big game of unity, kindness and working together. When she claims 'we have a plan' plus a team of 5 million and the ability to get back to where we were. But how did the virus get into NZ if you and your government team had unity and the ability to work together, Jacinda? I can't understand how there is not more anger directed at the government's performance.

Winston new about it at around 3pm on Tuesday, before Ardern??? John Tamihere knew on Monday, so dont believe that Ardern didnt know about it before she says!! She says that she wanted a transparent government!!! i say BS, you can not trust anything she says!!!! This useless government couldnt organise a piss up at a brewery!
