Davis
Look, as you all know old Davis is a peaceful man but what TF? Three amateur drivers' heats at NZ Met on Sunday? Give me a break. This makes the meeting a poor proposition for value punters like me and super punter Brodlie. It is really difficult to understand how this meeting was carded. We've got five races that are NOT betting propositions: Three amateur drivers' heats. A maiden mobile trot and a fillies and mare mobile trot. Value punters like me won't go near these races. That leaves us with five races to try and find something. Two of the fields are mediocre offering no value so serious punters have three races to try and find something. Hopeless. I won't have a bet because I cannot be bothered. That meeting is an insult to punters. And they wonder why turnover dropping Joke!! Chief Stipe
I've never understood why they made the amateur races betting races. Perhaps the final of a series where the real mug drivers have been eliminated. One irony is the Stipes seem to treat the amateurs just as harshly as the professional's when it comes to making "errors of judgement"!!! Go figure! That said an astute punter such as @Brodie will find value in any race.

I also think that Oamaru gallops racing tomorrow, 2 days before another grass track meeting at Riccarton is also an insult, more to the Oamaru club, my thoughts, Addington Sunday meetings, do they need them every Sunday or two meetings a week at present? Do you know what the betting figures on the amateur races are in comparison with other races? They used to say they held up pretty good in comparison. So,if you are worried about turnover dropping, then you should be encouraging them to run these races, especiallu given they got good support from trainers. Its up to you whether you participate betting wise. I guess whether you like them or not depends on whether you can back the right one.Thats not as easy as picking the best horse, thats for sure. You do have to factor in the drivers. But this weeks series has the best amateurs in nz driving,so each of them should be able to give their horse its chance. The non win trots i think are probably the races i have the most success on. I didn't used to like them, but nowdays find them the easiest races to select. I guess the reason for that is there is a greater gap in current performance from each of those in the fields. Finding value is getting more difficult these days.I don't bet on every race as much now days. The races i always give a miss are the races where the whale tips one the same as i select. I personally don't get why he has such a following,as anything he tips pays well under what it should. He does know his stuff, but backing a horse paying $3 when it deserves to be paying double that makes no sense. When i hear the trackside presenters continually giving him big wraps,i just think they are just blowing hot air. Thats one of the reasons i much prefer marc cookson to the whale. He knows just as much and no one over hypes him.

I will only have a go now if the odds are reasonable even though I will like several at a meeting! If they are paying under $2 for a place I wont waste my time. Rougher the race the better is the way to make money and if you do your homework you should consistently head them off!! The biggest problem is that generally the Bookies/Accountants open the odds too low and dont lengthen them out early enough. I can see a few that could be worth a crack on Sunday providing the track isnt wet, as that throws form out the window! And Davis is right in the lead of this thread. fancy expanding it to 3 races.???? Run as many of them as you like is fine by me (a former trainer/driver) but have them between Tote races for a few hundred dollars maybe, so the amateurs can have their fun and the very slow horses about can have a race . So much un-necesary trouble like Mrs Negus had ,when a tote race. Why ? No betting would be Best indeed .!!!
