Cambridge demolition derby

I prefer the harness horses myself, but did watch a couple of races at cambridge today, and thought it was like a demolition derby. The races i watched were race 6,where initially it looked like the the horse outside the leader was desperate to keep the eventual winner in,but upon watching the replay it was evident the reason it turned sideways a couple of times was because the winner was pushing into the clear and hitting the back end of the horse outside the leader, and as a result turning it a bit sideways.

Well that was nothing when it came to race 10,the other race i watched. There the horse in the trail deliberately bulldozed into the horse half a length in front of it,which turned that horse sideways into the horse outside it with it falling and another ploughing over the top.

I am left wondering, are jockeys that desperate to win that they forget totally about horse and human safety?

Too many inexperienced "young jocks".

Absolute shocking riding by some today, no wonder Bosson,Harris etc don't take Many mounts.

I have 23 years of racing in my blood,I have Trained winners, Ridden 50 winners, have a 2yo filly in work, support the game fully,

But I'm really starting to question if my future is best applied elsewhere.

The news so far is not good.

Very sad.    Awful too for Weatherley.     There is no way anyone goes out to deliberately maim or hurt another rider.  He will be feeling terrible.

Freda , I was watching a few Nz races lately as in a comp on another channel and my initial thought was they're going full bore 600-700m out in most of the races I was watching. And racing tight with it , and generally fan out and survival of the fittest up the home running , without much drama. is this the norm ?

I bet on Melbourne and Sydney Saturday races (Sydney seems way tighter than Melbourne so has more incidents like the Bowman one and the Berry one) but the jocks are More Patient ? I thought . and seem tostill be angling for a run after they turn for home , and time their runs well.

Is it too Impatient in Nz races now ?

Nothing in the stipes report regarding Weatherleys riding so i assume they thought no one was at fault .

I see he done something similar in R4 , pushing out when not clear , on his fathers horse which went on to win , got 5 days , didn't learn from it it seems .

Heart goes out to the young fella and his family , just following his dream and this happens , really unfair .

Gamma , the overall standard in NZ is very poor , from top to bottom , only Bosson and a few others are even half decent . Next time you are watching have a look at some of these young apprentices , very poor balance and most shit them selves if they have to use the stick , it's like get the stick on the horse and get their hands back on the reins as fast as possible , they are all over the place because their balance is so poor . They only have to have something like 15 trial rides before they can go to the races , i could be wrong it might be more but not by much , but i know most are getting to race day far too soon .

It's like watching dodgems some days , and don't get me started on tactical awareness .

Yes there is.

Stewards opened and adjourned an enquiry after taking initial evidence from the available riders into an incident near the 250 metres in which TE ATATU PASH fell dislodging T Yanagida. As a result, NANTUCKET who was following was badly hampered, dislodging rider R Elliot.

Sam will have to carry the consequences of his actions for the rest of his life.

An awful burden.

Yes, your correct.

But if standards were better, rules were enforced and jockeys charged for careless riding this may not have happened.
Seems you have never mentioned the poor riding standards in Canterbury, so your turning a blind eye.
