C'mon guys give the decision makers a break , i'm sure they have researched this this thoroughly and sought expert opinion on all aspects of these tracks . They have never been known to rush head long into these big money decisions without all available information and a full and frank discussion and consultation process with all sectors off the industry . Lay off them .

John Allen is now Advising the Country on what to do.

John Allen and think tank , now there's an oxymoron . -
Unfortunately it's not the persons making these decisions that are going to have deal with the consequences when this goes tits up , there is enough evidence to suggest that A/W's are not the panacea that racing requires . When these tracks need the major maintenance and the funds aren't there , they then become redundant even for training . The red flags are there .

If Avondale came to the party , would all 3 form a consortium ? , i.e . Auckland District Racing Group . Would all 3 have equal say ? . Or as many of the sceptics surmise would ARC just want to swallow up and control ? . This is where any club would be worried . The LEVIN/OTAKI consortium was never a completely comfortable fit .

Go ask the Levin RC members whether they are pleased that they never joined the RACE shyte fest . Race only wanted LRC for their assets .

I said if they put out next seasons dates with no declaration of stakes then be prepared for decent cuts . I will be surprised if they can maintain the 10K min .

They way NZ racing is managed now they will simply shrink the racing model to fit the available budget , they have no idea how to increase racing revenue . Last weeks money was simply damage limitation wrapped up in a COVID bow . Next season if the financial profile has deceased they will simply say they have to kill of more " unviable tracks " .

Well i guess we'll both have to keep banging our heads in frustration , they don't have a plan and i'm fecked if i can work it out if they do .
-
Had the same issue but if you just switch to our other channel they are often shown on there .
-
They have no option but to rely on pokies cause they have no friggen idea on how to drive racing revenues , rather than build racing they will continue to shrink it to fit the pool of available money .

Coronavirus: TAB consults on plan to cut 30 per cent of jobs

If you know the history of past and present political appointments and their ensuing CEO appointments and the effect their decisions have had on the industry , you wouldn't belittle your self with such demeaning comments . Obviously you have been a huge success in your life , i guess . -

Bad business decision in my opinion and i'm no business guru . So if you have a bet you can only watch on TV or phone , i pad , online is that correct . If so another raft of punters lost i think . -
All good closing these tracks , but until they get the rest up to standard to handle the extra meetings they are going to be running on them , then no point closing anything , most of the tracks don't stand up to the racing they have on them already . Saying that i think their long term aim is , less tracks , less meetings . In part due to less funding but also ownership reducing and them not knowing how to reverse either problem .
-
I'm still confused about the track closures . Since they announced the closures and which ones are to close i have been trying to find out the actual cost savings to the industry . Can't find any written figures and nobody has been able to answer my repetitive question , what is the actual dollar saving per track to the industry for those earmarked for closure . If someone has it i would appreciate knowing . They must know otherwise it's just a stab in the dark . They wouldn't just pull a figure out of the air would they ?

Common Sense? NZTR Announce Initial Stakes Money

Common Sense? NZTR Announce Initial Stakes Money

Never heard anybody say they are putting their horse out for a spell but giving it light work . A spell means a spell . You can draw a horses work back after a couple of hard races and just give it light work . If you have a break from work but keep working are you really having a break . -

The trainers i spoke to in the UK when i went to some meetings last year all said they spell horses . Whilst successful can't say any of them were household names but certainly had worked for some of the big names in UK racing . MY understanding is that whilst they may not spell for long , especially summer horses , they were brought into light work mainly because of winter conditions didn't allow that and just pottered around with . A lot of the trainers have indoor arena's big enough for trotting and cantering during this period . The training methods are very different to Australasia , lots of long slow work on downs and whilst they can fit a horse for a first up win at 2400mtr i think you'll find those horses have been in work for a lot longer than 2 months . As for the Japanese , My understanding is those big gun horses that come to Aussie have basically been in work for years , no spells , just periods of very light work , i suspect very similar to Singapore and HK . Personally i don't know of any respected trainer that would bring a horse in from a spell and have it in a 2000 mtrs race 8 weeks later . i would suspect if this happened it would be bottom a horse . Modern horses are no where tough as they used to be , they are much finer than in the past . That said , in horse racing there is always the exception . -
Peters is retiring at the next election isn't he , doesn't need our votes then , so doesn't give a feck now . He thought sorting out racing was going to be his legacy . Got that one wrong , it's turning into a cluster f@#k . But he'll be right when he says " i tried to help but they couldn't sort their sh#t out " .

Jumping is so big in UK/IRELAND it was only flat racing that had a hiatus but in recent years with all weather tracks they have flat racing thru the winter . Racing as a whole never stopped . And i agree to do it here is one of the lesser ideas i've heard .

Mindset of NZTR and RITA needs major attitude adjustment . Wont matter how much money is saved from slashing costs or increased turnover if the people employed to manage racing can't change their mindset and can't stop treating it as their own private slush fund . We seriously need a person with great management skills with a real passion for horse racing, not just a passing interest , and who really cares about the long term future of racing not just the term of their contract . Easy .

I want to know if you got lucky with the bananas ??

No Excuse for the RIU to turn up! Look at their Covid-19 Subsidy!
nomates replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Agree , too many of the big boys wont get on board . The president of the trainers assn has fired barely a word in anger about our current administration . Most he said was about getting a synthetic to help with race meetings getting canned , and guess what he got one at his home track . If he can't speak up for his members why would they bother . -
Wont be the last i think . Nz racing is in dire straights and they are preparing for a bit further down the line . Pike , Marsh and others in their position will taking as serious look at following .
