Aiden Rodley at Riccarton isn't much better. Don't get me wrong it is nice to see some recently departed trainers/owners get some wins. But geez he does go on and on and on and on.....
-
Looking at the replay YET AGAIN! Copy That didn't seem that interested in stepping away. It was very very slow away and made things worse for itself. Didn't seem to have ANY early spoed.
-
Full credit to Matt Cross he is a good commentator. I'd love to see JJ Flash do it. I know I certainly couldn't!
-
You obviously haven't done your homework yet! Self Assured was the third horse mentioned. Here is a word for word transcript for you: "The Cup field is set. The tapes are back, they're underway.." "Copy That very slow off the inside, he's going to end up back second last" "First out Ashley Locaz.." "Now where's Self Assured, he stepped away OK" "First to go is Ashley Locaz, will lead, Self Assured is going get into the trail early so that's a big advantage to him".... FFS JJ who's got the obvious bias here?
-
Yeah a bit of a weird comment. If he draw well he would have been right in it and even Lamb has little chance of mucking up a mobile start!
-
I think Blair made a mistake to not get on the back of Spankem when Natalie went forward. When Copy That did go forward he got flushed wide racing into the tighter bend and ended up 3 wide for most of the next lap. Surely he would have known that once Spankem got to the front with the other All Stars trailing it wouldn't hand up the lead.
-
FFS JJ - you're an expert race caller now as well? He was looking at Copy That - called it losing ground and then quickly went to the front of the field. He lost sight of Self Assured who certainly had a blinder of start compared to his normal efforts! As homework I suggest you watch the replay a dozen times!
-
Yep - full credit to Mark Purdon he controlled that start from the get go. Geez if it was the 100m Olympic final he'd be on a warning and the second time he would have been disqualified!
-
Why is that biased? Most commentators look at who goes back first. He was looking for Copy That drawn one initially to see if it got away knowing that it was one of the favourites. Copy That was very slow to get moving and the commentator mentioned it before looking to the front. He couldn't find Self Assured initially because it was partially obscured.

Watch the replay. Self Assured hit the tape in the first go and turned first. Deliberate go at the tape?

Yep and changing the rules only puts a non issue into public view. The question that Spicer and co should be asking and answering is: Will changing the rules attract more punters? Will leaving them as they are lose punters? But eh token gestures are easier to do than work out the big questions! As for "society" changing well if you believe the vocal minority are society then why not close up shop now? I heard some woman banging on about how all racing of animals should be banned.
-
Well I guess society (whoever that is) can pay the wages and stakes. Who cares about the customer i.e. the punter.
-
I guess the "failed to drive the horse out" charge will disappear?

Age restriction on racecourse entry - Riccarton!
Noodlum replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Then why the inconsistency between Riccarton and Addington? This is another case of where "host responsibility" is all out of kilter. If the "trained" bar staff were on the job then no under 18's would be sold booze on course. Doesn't stop them from getting it. No disrespect to the Police but if everyone everywhere all the time behaved then they wouldn't have a job would they? -

You think? As for struggling after Covid - they were struggling BEFORE Covid. Except with Covid came big handouts both to NZRB and individual clubs. CJC had their handout big time getting nearly $500k plus $16m for a new track plus favouritism in terms of racing and stakes plus maintenance funding and so on and so on. Why weep tears for the privileged big clubs? This discussion is on the banning of children from Cup Day - doesn't matter when it started. But compare it to the Crusaders - they actually encourage you to take your children to the big games - "Take a Kid to the Footy", "Kids take your Grandad to the Footy"..... -
What I don't get if this thing is so devastating and has horrendous long term impacts why haven't we seen research on the 2,000 recovered cases in New Zealand? All we have heard from them is from a couple of "social media influencers" who quite frankly seem to be wet wimps! Zip, zero, nada - nothing!
-
Not even close. Next radio interview this morning proves my point. This particular woman is saying that all animal based gambling should be banned! "The horse is a beautiful sentinel animal that shouldn't be subjected to this abuse." FFS! Start selling your pigeons! Happy if you give them an inch you may as well close your TAB account and sit in your backyard watching caterpillars race over your cabbages!

The whip rules are a farce and were only ever a sop to the do gooders. Trying to quantify and measure the whip use is a waster of time. A jockey gets a heavy fine if he miss counts by 1 or 2 hits within a certain distance! Expecting the jockey to count the hits AND the distance on the track AND steer the horse AND stay in the stirrups is prone to error. Does anyone actually think that the do gooders will stop at the whip? No they want racing banned. I agree with the Chief - don't give an inch! The woman on the radio from SAFE now going on about the poor horse and the whip causing the fracture so "we could all have a bet and forget about it the next day". What absolute BS. The owners of AvD will be absolutely devastated today. He was a fine looking animal. The financial loss would be huge. An Epsom Derby winner who had competed successfully all over the world. Rare to see a Derby winner do that nowadays.

They tested negative before arrival. So based on that policy we remove fish from the NZ diet and by the looks of it all fruit. Mung bean futures look good. Yeah na - we are a trading nation and our wealth depends upon it. What you are suggesting is we close our borders completely. We are then an isolated third world nation. I'd rather take the risk of catching Covid than live like that.

Watched it. Great story and thanks for reminding me to watch it. Maybe we could all put $10 in a week........
-
Anyone who backed the rest wouldn't be happy as wouldn't deductions apply to fixed odds? As for the two that were late scratched their punters would be happy to get their money back but I would imagine extremely pissed with the starter!

Brodie must be an attractive man with all the attention and bro-love he gets. Shit stirring is normally self-evident so no need to call it out.

I'm not being a smart arse - I was just pointing out that this Topic is about the FLYING MILE FOR TROTTERS! Not the FLYING STAKES over 2400m! The Screen Shots provided were for the FLYING STAKES not the FLYING MILE! Easy to see the difference too - one was a Pete Lamb Standing Mobile and the other was an actual Mobile start!
