I know what I'd like to put on his headstone, however there would be no room should Kate Goodrich choose to scribe her thoughts!

Huey, I shake my head when I see sires of the calibre or Showcasing and Iffraaj neglected by know-alls closely associated with the Cartel....a few bloodstock agents to boot.......by the time they twigged it was too late, Iffraaj was standing for 15K, in England 55,000 pound, for Gods sake.......he got the two champion fillies and Wootton Bassett in his first crop, Showcasing was standing for K7 and in England he's now at a fee of 45,000 pound.......no wonder they don't shuttle anymore, the repatriation of funds make it untenable.......it makes no sense anymore Huey, the more you study it, the sillier it gets.

I think it's worrying for an International breeding operation to cease just prior to our selling season, if it was Newgate, Coolmore, or Stonestreet etc it would be much bigger news, and I think next year we will see a few more disappear into the sunset.

Of these, Can the Man is goodness knows where, Hampton Court is dead, Jimmy Creed is filling a breed-to-race niche in North America, and Warrior's Reward is standing private-treaty in the state of Pennsylvania. Warrior's Reward seems to be the heir apparent at a small farm where the flagship stallion is obscurely-bred, tough as teak, and 21 years old

In 2015 they kicked off in Oz, these stats are damning; Can The Man: Group1 winner in the USA. Served just 11 mares Hampton Court: Group1 winner in Oz: Served just 22 mares Jimmy Creed: Group 1 winner in the USA: Served just 22 mares Warrior's Reward:Group1 winner in the USA Served just 24 mares

Here is a very good synopsis by a learned person, it tells a worrying story; I think the most important factor in Spendthrift Australia closing is this: https://www.spendthrift.com.au/b-wayne-hughes-passes-away/ Combine that with the fact that by everything I can piece together, Spendthrift Australia had to be bleeding away money in a death by a thousand cuts. The Breed Secure incentive they had probably cost them a half a million in 4 years in lost revenue from stud fees. Overshare, Dirty Work, Swear, and Gold Standard were purchased as yearlings for a total of $2M and the only one to earn more on the track than his sales price was Gold Standard (IMO this has a lot to do with why Dirty Work's advertised fee is as high as it is). They shelled out about $600K for yearlings at 2021 Inglis Easter, they shelled out about $1.75M for mares at Gold Coast in 2020, $3.66M at 2020 Magic Millions, and goodness only knows how much money they spent on this: https://www.spendthrift.com.au/infrastructure-investment/ ; Those mares were destined for Spendthrift stallions, the fillies in the Magic Millions yearling lot were eventually destined for Spendthrift stallions, and that's kind of where I was going with, you can't make money when you're F!'ing yourself. The two most expensive mares in that lot ($600K and $450K) were being sent to...drumroll please...a stallion standing for $22,000. Since Hughes died right before the Australian breeding season and Omaha Beach and Vino Rosso were already down there, it would make financial sense to keep the shed open for long enough to recoup the cost of sending them there and back before turning out the lights and selling. If it made financial sense for Hughes' heirs to keep the farm open--meaning, they had a stallion roster that was making money and whose foals were winning good races--the farm would probably stay open. As it is, though, the heirs will make more money cutting their losses, selling the farm itself (which will probably break-even if not be a small profit), take the best mares to the USA, and sell the rest.

Did anyone sight Bernie? I heard Kurow was on his bucket list, a must do........something about ''shouting the bar''.....

Yes mate but with an ankle bracelet adornment you might not have been down to Cavill Ave later than 6pm, once the sun sets and all the locals go home, the place has to rely on the thousands of Mexicans up from VIC and NSW to spend their moula, which they do, however, it's a fact that the Kiwi's stayed and spent up, they're not here, so that spend is missing. Where I live up on the Broadwater the Grand's beer garden is empty, the cafes along Marine Pde are half empty, the breakfasting is terrible to see with the chairs and tables deserted .........Gamma lives in Utopia as north of Logan they just love Annaconda, most are public servants that greet the eagle every month, on time and never late, those that are self employed or in industries not Gov related aren't going as well as the socialist rag would have you believe.

Congrats @Reefton with Roussanne at Kurow

I hear he's booked his flight to Royal Ascot and top hat and tails so he can meet the Queen before she shuffles off the mortal coil. #aimforthestars -
Hey Pasta Boy, there are so many Kiwi's living on the Coast all it would take to smash the record is for a bro to come on over and wammo, 200,000 here for Christmas. Tom Tate the Mayor of the GC is saddened that there are no flights into Coolie from NZ as we count on the multitude of Kiwi visitors to support our hotels and restaurants......you should come over next summer Pasta boy and see for yourself.....or better still, ring a cuzzy that lives here, they'll set you straight.

A huge operation in the USA GONE here in Oz, obviously we will learn more during the next few days, however it's huge news in light of the sales season about to begin. Their stallion roster and shuttle stallions were possibly not the 'right' horses for us, whoever advised them have questions to answer. A lovely property, the old Yallambee Stud, hopefully out of the ashes ....... See; www.paulickreport.com

Our former agent in the USA lives in Florida [Fort Lauderdale] he says their economy is on fire, the cafes and restaurants are booming, unvaxxed welcome, vaxxed welcome, the malls are full, the negative is large numbers of their elderly black population with diabetes, kidney failure, liver and bowel problems are in hospital and many in ICU.......they are predominantly unvaxxed, however the health spokesman said it is the underlaying conditions that are to blame and would have necessitated hospitalisation in any case..... Meanwhile across the country in California their economy is in freefall, Venice Beach in LA is a ghost town, business closed retail devastated, in Santa Monica the for lease signs are everywhere, it's holiday season here in QLD and so everyone needs somewhere to go, something to do, no Kiwi tourists on the strip down at surfers, it's usually teeming so it's very strange and sad....... We've failed as a species, unless there's a genetic upheaval we're stuffed, when you have so many medical experts arguing with other medical experts over this virus we will have contention, however surely if a skilled qualified medical practitioner says hold on, do not mandate vaccinations, surely, we need to stop and listen and digest?........like that infamous Springbok tour, it split a nation, however we didn't have social media back then, and propaganda now reaches a huge audience, fear is the winner sadly.

Only lunatics think lockdowns work, the fool that runs VIC proved that, they are having the largest numbers ever returning positives now, Annaconda shut the border, but what did she think would happen? Its happening now, QLD is receiving interstate tourists, and the numbers are doubling everyday, but there are fuckall in Hosp, and less in ICU, however our cafes and pubs are struggling, those that bothered to open that is. Last Sat at the Gold Coast Turf Club the members was doing ok, it was members Christmas parties, BUT......the public area was deserted, a bookie who lives near me said that he wrote SFA.......it cost him more to stand and field, he is thinking of giving it away, he's 70 odd, he's had enough...... the pressure is on most of our big stables, staff shortages big time, our police force are hundreds down and we can't get enough age care workers, lets be honest here, the GOV has fudged the numbers of vaccinated people, we are nowhere near the 90%, not within a bulls roar, you hold a gun to someones head you better be prepared to pull the trigger or you might cop the consequences. The backtracking and back flips by the QLD Gov are mounting, yes you learn from your mistakes, but this mob are making it up as they go along. Just like Gillard and Rudd did all those years ago, history repeats, we are living it now.
-
Are you still hung over from the port used in the gravy Christmas Day? I didn't say NRL were super spreader events, I said bubbles don't work, they thought they did, until it hit the fan on the Goldie with the dumbbells and their families climbing over balconies, reaching over, passing each other stuff, etc etc........Karaka will go the same way, if Ardern is serious she'll say no way Jose, but they're broke aren't they? printing money eh? so, Karaka only brings money to the GOV if the horses stay in NZ.....if they are exported no GST.......so Ardern should tell NZB, go sing.

Wouldn't you love to put a hidden camera into that bastion of thinkology NZTR at Petone, even with time lapse technology it would look like slow motion , the only plaudits go to the make up artist for hiding the lobotomy scars on the decision makers noggins.

That bloke looks very much like Curious? from the shoulders up that is, he might have been working out though, riding work may have toned him, he likes a day out does Curious.

Look, you said you were a jockey, or rather you rode for 20 years, my Dad rode for 60 years, it was a Malvern Star, he used to carry a flagon on the handle bars, he only gave up when some low arsehole stole his 'star' while he was getting a refill. I'd bet he looked prettier in the saddle than you, I was the tallest jock in the NI, only Garth J in the SI was taller than I, but I was much fatter, my last ride was at Wanganui when I was allowed to ride 5ib overweight, 8stone 12ib, but even then I cheated and had one foot on the floor weighing out.....and my Uncle was the clerk of scales, Tanga Baker For Gods Sake. I almost fainted from wasting on pulling up, but one D E Reed pushed me back in the saddle. Joe Bloggs is my name, backing winners is my game, your posts attack me, but I find them tame, I'm off for a surf after mowing my turf, another glorious day here on the Goldie, and I'll finish my day with a bloody nice coldie. Toodle Pip....
