Winx vs Frankel: Who was better? Make your case.
Joe Bloggs replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
A turn of foot is commensurate with the jock releasing the brakes and the distance the horse puts between himself and the peloton. If you watch Tom he hardly moves on the great horse, he's able to gap proven Gr1 horses in the chasing posse comprising class horses, his win in the 2000 guineas was something else but IMO his win at his last start Champion's Day at Ascot on a heavy track was just all class, Timeform rated this horse correctly as the greatest to ever look through a bridle, he won me, he won millions of others and in his retirement is an absolute gentleman, I urge you to read the Wikipedia synopsis as I can't do the resume justice........can I just add, sectionals on English racecourses can be very misleading as most are undulating some have uphill run ins resembling skate board parks, Brighton is downhill and horses can run home in clock destroying times, it was simply the class of horse and the way Frankel beat them that put him on the pedestal. -
Winx vs Frankel: Who was better? Make your case.

Having seen them both, Frankel. I rode in a race against Triton, you wouldn't remember him, he won by 8 lengths that day, I've never seen a horse with the turn of foot that Triton had......until Frankel, he destroyed the best Europe could muster, and you saw what happens when the best of European horses come down under, but I don't rate Winx as good as Sunline so it's really irrelevant. Syd Brown told me the best horse he ever saw was Daryl's Joy, so I wonder what Syd would have made of Winx. -
OK, news breaking here is that NSW policewoman Belinda Hocrost has won her case in court against the NSW Gov [Brad Hazard] re VAX mandates........it was settled out of court in her favour! this is huge news and will put fear up the backside of that prick in VIC Dan Andrews.

Two horse race, 2 miles, set weights, track a dead 4, VE or MD?
-
It's just a few old farts shooting the breeze, [pardon the pun]......and telling porkies.......well one is.
-
Look what K Town beat, and he could win an Expressway first up, ran 2nd in a MEL cup after a brain fade by MJ, he raced on year after year, beating all those top WFA horses, not Welter horses or good handicappers like Winx did, she should have been arrested for beating up the perennial non-winner Tom Melbourne, and no-one is going to remember the horses that ran behind her, but take the time to peruse the racebooks and look at 'The Towns' victims.......as for Frankel, he would have had time to win, weigh in and serve a few maidens in the O a T bar before Winx made it into the enclosure.......

Oh Chief, if only you were a bookmaker back when I had a fair team and trained at Flemington, I reckon you would have left the joint in a tram, a trail of broken dreams and irate punters in the paddock [or Leger] waiting for settling.....ahh if only.

When will Victoria and NSW call a truce over stake increases?!

PVL is a clown, megalomaniac, another that surrounds himself with crawlers, a polite word for arselickers. Having said that, RVL are no better, racing is thriving here, but grass roots racing needs incentives as that's where the majority of people are stationed, owners, trainers, jocks, breeders, if that kind of dosh is surplus then it should go to improving many of our country tracks, when it rains tracks like Ballina, Lismore.......oh there are too many to name are un-raceable, the Northern Rivers areas, they need help, but blokes like PVL surrounded by sycophants are deaf, blind and guided by adulation with the press fawning all over him. This is what happens when you give someone too much power. Our bush racing used to be so so good, huge crowds, big betting rings and the bush town riding on the success .......it's not what it was, and it could be, gambling is in our blood here, it will never die, so the revenue streams will continue, it's just the people that count....don't.......and that needs fixing! -
Many years ago I went to Caulfield to back my fav horse of the time, he was named Bit Of A Skite, he was ridden by the now trainer Gerald Ryan, he won, he held the Caulfield track record for 1000m and 2000m, he was no champion but a super good horse, Winx couldn't do that Chief, times can be very misleading, but Winx raced on Regumate also, I bet Showgate didn't get that help, plus she went over seas.....Winx was cuddled, cleverly as she was so superior to all the locals, but I'll finish by saying IMO Sunline would have smacked her arse, and Showgate wasn't far behind Sunline, again IMO......it's good to be able to say we saw them all, these young 30 something know-all journos didn't see those grand horses of the past, that's how you can rank them....from what you have witnessed, and the two best horses I saw in my life...so far are Frankel and Kingston Town, with an American horse called Skip Away just behind them,,,,,,,he was freak, won about 15 mil and could run the first half mile of a mile and a quarter in 44sec, Winx could never do that, but he was a dirt track horse so everything is relevant.....IMO.

I'd absolutely believe that!

Here's a hypothetical in response, Happy Clapper, he'd be up to beating Copper Belt then? Happy C earned millions running second to Winx, but if he was great opposition then the likes of Copper Belt, Grey Way and Showgate would be cannon fodder for him.......I think you need to seek out a new dealer Chief, he's cutting your weed with weeds.
-
I don't want to ignite a 'Winxs bashing' but to you buggers that saw Showgate do these things and the quality of opposition she had to beat to do that, do you think Winx could have done that? I don't but hey IMO.......

My Aussie mate lives in AKL, he was a hard working, committed and talented craftsman, he by his own admission is now a lazy, unmotivated couch potato, his own fault he says but he doesn't want to go back to work, he wont cope he says, and he means it...........are there more?

And to think she won a 'hurdle' race.....the hurdle being Gordon Thomson!

Me neither!

Another case that shows the whip rules are stupid!

S Wynne fined, suspended, you name it, a serial flogger, Irelands gain, NZ's loss, if there is a next life, the horses will ride the jockeys and one S Wynne will cop a good flogging. -

Rewarding mediocrity is paying a salary to Saundry, George, and all the other hanger ons that the industry has provided succour to over the years. -
Isn't it strange how many racing administrators leave their positions under a cloud? That bloke from P North [RACE] for instance, he was the latest if I'm correct however the list would read like a telephone book if it was released, Mills is blessed, nothing worse than rewarding mediocrity, but he is either protected or the second coming........you choose.

No doubt Freda has her own thoughts on the matter, however, to see the once mighty SI have only two representatives in the guineas is sad, well worse than sad, and not realistic chances either. Good on MP for having a throw at the stumps, but for Gods sake, you would think there would be 3yo's within the SI that would have been aimed at this race as their pinnacle. Is it Riccarton? Has that track broken horses down? Have all the promising types been flogged off to HK or OZ? I know we can't live in the past, [as much as we'd like to] but those halcyon days of this NZ Cup carnival have long gone me thinks and it's all not down to Covid.

Classic.

No! After the first one she went down on him.........

The Channel 10 coverage here was very average, Racing.com was better. The Channel 7 coverage of SYD is far superior, with Emma Freedman and Kate Mallyon front and centre, two women that know the sport inside out and have heaps of on air personality........funnily enough this is still the race that stops the nation, hope like hell it keeps on keeping on until I kick the bucket ....and beyond.

There's nothing worse than a nasty little prick, just ask the workers top end of Jackson St.

Olly is 2 lengths in front of J Mac at this moment, and holding......in 35 years time will J Mac have done what Olly has done, that is the question, having said that, if J Mac rang me for a ride, yep, I'd put him on.......Olly was my next door neighbour for 6 years and his ride when winning the Showday Cup on Submariner as a young apprentice was sublime, he rides as good now as he did then, but he's still got the first dollar he ever earned, tight as a fish's backside!.......

Victoria Derby 2021: Great Betting Race!
Joe Bloggs replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
You may have detected I'm a bit 'anti' Savabeel colts NM, not so the fillies. They can be skinny scrawny things or big outstanding specimens, they come in all sorts, but by gee they can be good, the colts raised and abetted by one 'Bought By Dave' go for huge money, they underachieve and the ROI on Savabeel colts would be horrendous. Dave is not Rob Crusoe tho, many of these bloodstock agents still wearing L Plates go hard at the sales and force poor old Dave to go even harder, then a collection of awe struck Aussie trainers get caught in the moment and fins themselves in a bidding war, so my radar is off the scale whenever a Savabeel colt enters the mounting yard with a boom on it.......Yep I concede he's go a couple of better ones go the 2400, but mate, that extra 100 metres at Flemington can catch a lot of pretenders out, so be cautious come tomorrow when you open your wallet and all those moths fly out, treat warily brother, as David Payne has a very good horse in there as does Archie Alexander and to cap it off Gary Portelli has the winner I hope, all at lucrative odds....If I'm wrong I shall be packing shelves on the Woolworths [Countdown] night shift next week....yee ha.
