Brodie melts down most days . check out these latest 2 posts above. Could it be Global Warming getting to him ?

NZ Cup , the plum race of the country for the best going around, was only $300,000 for winner last time for SELF ASSURED . Down from the $400,000 for winners in recent past years . so the decrease there is 25% . quite a large amount in one year. so not just the jewels going Down in Value unfortunately.

First the Dogs and now our Gallopers are on Methamphetamine!
Gammalite replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Am sure where there are large numbers of stable staff you are going to have a LOT of different addicts of one kind or another. Chris Waller with his hundreds of horses in Sydney had a positive Meth in 2016 so copped a large 30k fine and the horse DQ. Then after testing 67 staff (imagine a percentage would refuse testing too), 6 were found to be positive for one thing or another. Even this year in February Qld Chris Waller stable staff were 'forced to retire' (another word for sacked) after a party got out of control after a feature race win. People are always taking stuff , alcohol ,etc so random tests will catch people out. (just like on the roads) How often can we go for these random tests? and what is the punishment? NSW chief steward says they do about 600 tests per year on average, on licensed persons including trainers , track-work riders and stable staff for about 20 **positive results. (**seems a lot of positives from not many tests to me, for an industry employing thousands) not sure on what penalty is dished out. Is a BIG worry if cross contamination to horses, is occuring though. -
It's a tough one ,staying at the top for decades on end. JACKS LEGEND would of been the champion of NZ imo, if for not Allstars all the time. (2nd to Lazarus in a NZ Cup) Last Friday BARRY took to nice 2 yearolds to the South Island for you to 'see at Addington.' MONTANA DJ and MAJOR PERRY ran 3rd and 4th in the Feature Sires Stakes final !!! an incredible achievment.!! Completely un-noticed by nearly everyone, because of the dominant CULLEN quinella in that race , and behind the brilliant AKUTA. 3rd and 4th doesn't attract attention alas......................... (and Barry has had some 2 year old fillies winning this season too, beating the southerners that came to Auckland on occasion) MONTANA GLORY placed twice in Group 1's behind Cullen's True Fantasy very recently too, If he knocked off Cullen's in these races you wouldn't be bagging him. Is great results really!!! Well done Barry !! keep up the good work.
-
Lets have a look and see what is wrong then. compare to recent past seasons and your immeadiate opponents. firstly, Must say CULLEN is running at a success rate Exactly the same as ALLSTARS last year . He achieves 1 Win every 4 starters. NZ's other leading stable DUNN's is very consistant with very close to 100 wins from 600 starters every season. They achieve near 1 Win every 6 starters. In the North Island, BARRY PURDON past 2 completed seasons 2019, 2020 had exactly 1 win every 4 starters (same as brother-in law Tony HERLIHY, a main opponent, ) and a Very strong win rate same as Allstars. Their 'main 'opponents are RAY GREEN (1 Win every 6 ) and Steve TELFER ( consistantly has 1 win every 7 starters every season ) This 2021 season Barry is recording 1 Win every 8 starters. so yes I guess that is dramatic . Herlihy , only one Win each 7 starters now as well . dramatic too? SUMMARY, You are correct !! a dramatic drop off for BARRY P and TONY H. just this season though .still same as Telfer or Green strike-rate though roughly. WHY you ask ????? Ranga is right I suspect, They got OLDER, and after years of success at the VERY TOP , I say a sleep-in and a small drop -off . very well deserved !!!! Champions of the sport !. good on em'

Oh for goodness Sake Galah !! The 'sore loser' bit you're ranting about .It was just a fricken term of sorts.!!!! like using 'pitiful 'to describe the midweek fields last week , when you know I meant the "FORM of the horses' and NOT the horses themselves , but still wanted to pull me up on it. By 'sore losers' you know I mean 'the negative posting FORM' about everybloodything, and NOT the posters themselves. I retract any 'term' giving you offence such as sore loser or pitiful. Geez mate do you want Forb's back. I DON"T know people's motives , or whatever it is you're talking about. I have always tried to be upbeat and NOT insult anyone , and post history , and great things about, and people in this sport. and even some winners to bet on. I give up , let Luddy and Brodie post to ya. full of enthusiasm. (or is that a touch of sarcasm too much? )

A great question Brodster. I disagree though. He has outstanding success over decades , and doesn't get accused of things like Mark does ?? Big Barry has 'Always' had great horses too.!! He trained Mark Hanover to win Interdominion , Luxary Liner, CHOKIN to win miracle miles, Holmes DG who i did an article on recently, but got No reply from anyone. was surprised as surely someone appreciates good horses? Improved the Hopes best horse 'White Sox' to win heats of the last Interdominion run (and in fact, trained a placegetter in that Grand final too, MACH SHARD, behind Nat on Ultimate Sniper for Allstars) Barry won plenty with Belle of Montana recent times. A whole Catelogue of Success for decades as well , just like Mark (except even Longer) He is a dominant force ! was leading trainer many years with dad Roy, and still winning 4 decades later. Not as Professional ???????????????? did you really say that ??? one of NZ 's best ever winners in harness????
-
Just a bunch of sore losers Galah. the people commenting in the 'Negative' that is. There is nothing New. Mark was associated with his brother and father. (A smart trainer who engaged the best drivers before his boys drove , Wolfie won the NZ Cup with Sole Command) and Mark followed suit engaging a very tactical and proven driver in Natalie Rasmussen (already a great trainer and 4 time Interdominion winner with Black's A Fake, who beat NZ's Best for many years) So Mark and Nat have won for decades, Mark drove Mark Hanover to win Interdominion 1991 or so for his dad. An ABSOLUTE CATELOGUE of success for Decades !! There is nothing new that can defeat a History of greatness. There you go!! there is the Total reason for you. Not the first horses to do this from the stable. nothing New. would be 100's of others too. ANY horse (especially one like South Coast Arden , a horse with ability but lacking winning form) would improve with the Cullen/Rasmussen combo. They are 'Getting much closer' with the trotting gait horses too ?? watch out for some more wins shortly then !!!!! excellent!. we'll be rolling in it, just like Rolleston
-
A plague of millions in NSW at the moment? some farms completely over-run. Is it like the rush of people trying to get to the harness racing these days.?
-
unfortunately stormed home late from well back for 1/2 head second . Where's Nat when you need her ? in front a stride past the post. Nat drove 5 of the 7 Cullen's with a sit last night. Italian Lad was without cover last lap after trailing up from outside of the gate draw. so a top run by him . Amazing Dream sat 1-1 at Auckland FFA and beat the $1.10 fav. Copy That. Always well driven by near the Best In the World !! Nat and along with Tim, Blair and Mark (and now Olivia) !! No wonder there are so many winners. yeah good on you for sticking up for your rites. you'll think of something then .
-
well done by Cats too just now!!! Lol.... easy win . And LIONS for the flag !! (great game last night here in Brisbane against the Premiers) good luck with your wild west tips. For the kiwis go SPELLBOUND (Vic G3 tonight for Nathan) into ALTA ORLANDO (Nsw menangle for Dunns) double. What could go wrong???
-
give it to ya neighbour to stick on for ya then. give him a carton for his trouble. solved. some owners want to put BIG bets on to 'Pay ' for their horse. so lots of us used to help them out and SPREAD the BET around a bit . plenty of options with betting companies these days. No mates will help you out? Why do you hate the racing and leading stable so much when you can't get a bet on your midweeks anyway.? I tried to encourage support for our Champions (nat and horses) with this thread (but failed it seems) Feature races used to FEATURE races that people enjoyed to SEE THE BEST going around and be impressed. Natalie is a WORLD CHAMPION, the current Interdominion title holder, and winner of 10 races over the past 8 Days, an achievement worthy of great praise. and was proved you can Win off it for small outlay, if you want. anyway, WELL DONE Natalie !!! an Amazing effort to win all those races , and Mr Cullen and Mr Mangos (2 wins)for supporting her with some fine training past 2 weeks, as well.
-
Some good points Galah. In America any horse Under a certain price is excluded from the betting. Niatross was 15 times in 30 starts in his day. Bettor Twist would of been from the Oaks . And these important punters can get a WIN bet on La Rosa. what a great idea. !! they do Win, Place and Show (1st,top2, top3) also a great idea !!! Personally, I enjoy the races whether betting or Not is my problem. Handicapping is a BIG issue. In Brisbane they try and give EVERY horse a chance by handicapping system that gets the 'Like" horses in one race. Therefore to me IMPOSSIBLE to Bet on. All the horses are alike ??? The other day Lancelot Bromac 35 wins from 405 starts raced against a one start winner in his race. Wow , who's to say who the better horse is? (the horse with one start won again) Impossible to bet on with CONFIDENCE. no fun in guessing results, surely?? I live off the punt so take the bets moderately seriously lol...... as JJ said , and I tried to share last week with Samhara and this week too, you can BET WITH CONFIDENCE on those good ones. I am sorry if was rude, just saying don't agree with BAD stable because of BAD (small odds) . Surely Punters NOT likely to be off-put. Amazing Dream paid $14 here lol...... 6 time Group1 winner now at Akld. I should of had a bet, and been loyal to stable ??? lol..... or be OFF-PUTTING like Ludwigs and Brodster, because of her stable ??? no thanks. Winx drew an extra 20,000 people to Doomben one day . paying $1.10. sometimes the racing better than betting?
-
Haha yeah being an enthusiast is NO crime, and DOES increase your knowledge. Give it a go sometime. I tried to show you can make money off backing good horses, after a midweek debate about which racing is better to watch and bet on Group racing or midweek racing? it's a NO Contest. !! unlike your debate of suggesting IT OFF-PUTTING , Why for heavens sake? Are the Allblacks off-putting in rugby by winning? I DO concede if you race the opposition horses it would/could be OFF-PUTTING. I tried to show you can make money off Natalie Ras drives. And still Galah posted on this thread that you can't .WRONG. you and he not reading all the posts. give yourself a downvote.
-
Yes I am quite sad actually that I failed to demonstrate that QUALITY racing is well worth watching , No matter what price the winners are. Hopes trotters did very well, along with Nat winning the 2 Group 1's. Galah and Brodie quite happy to bet Midweeks??? . Good on them ! they need some support. But I demonstrated (quite soundly) how you can make some money (with MINIMUM risk) this week and last week by backing good horses from good stable. A series of doubles , trebles , quads has given me over $2000 profit , the past 2 Fridays, all on Natalie Rasmussen drives , from about a $300 outlay. (I showed this thread you are chance of $100 for $5 outlay) They want to 'whack-on' about $1 ew punters???? lol.... well not a lot of those left is something they should know. Actually Brodster raves about his BIG bets. Why not $1000 on AKUTA ? then , easy $1000 profit , on a fantastic horse !!! MINIMUM risk , Great Trainer (he won't acknowledge) great driver(s) as well. Nah , rather put a thousand on a midweek for a place horse ? what a lot of crock..... hardly believe anyone is that si.............
-
What a thrill for her. Am sure a big picture of that win beating Copy That with Amazing Dream is sure to go up on her wall at home. very well done Olivia.!! And Natalie with a HIGH 5 of wins again at Addington, to go with the trotters placings as well. she was only a few metres off the 8 winners. Hope someone got the $100 off the Nat express tonight.!!!!!!!!! I didn't do too badly at all. was a nice back up after last week. No stopping the express. Time to catch the next train Battle of the BIG CATS , my fav teams Brisbane Lions and Richmond Tigers are on very soon at the Gabba. bring it on ! . hey and the Tigers BEST player Dusty Martin, is a kiwi too. how cool is that ? have a great weekend to all.
-
yeah it left the gate so well I guess Jess just tried to take advantage of that fact. (corravally Star) certainly brought Dunns unstuck with Got you Covered. It was struggling a looong way out. and then his 2 yearold trotter galloped a few times you probably saw. He Dunn bad. (like that joke lol...) but Michael Purdon trotter looks a beauty. very bold 2 year old. Like the Hope Trotters just then . A fine Hope stable Quinella. they will be doing better than Williamson's at this rate of winning.
-
Jessica Young-Grant just ran third then with a good positive drive behind CORRAVALLY STAR , so has lifted her game for ya. Not the same odds for Samhara as last week. darn it all . maybe I should go to the midweeks? NO , better stick with good ones. yes , One bloke left me BEYOND WORDS the when it beat Amazing Dream one night , with his over-analysis of who's trying !! lol..... yes , I think that Temporale 5 horse trot race last month, was a bit of a joke loss, and the CLASSY Operator drive by Ferguson last week , was All about the stable-mate Meetmeinsorrento getting the chocolates. dodgy dodgems indeed.
-
Wow.! what a thrill of her driving career to be driving an Auckland Cup winner for the young Lass !!! A LOT of blokes had a thrill driving Auckland Cup winner Gammalite time to time (a dozen or so ) and they all won on him, as that horse so darn good, could still win , no matter who sat behind him . a rare thing indeed. good on them for putting Olivia on to drive. love it. what a reward. I take it she works at Cullens? and has had a few odd drives here and there. small field for Amazing Dream. So not too much can go wrong. hope she wins it !! COPY THAT going great guns now with 5 wins in a row . well actually, his AUCKLAND CUP 3rd placing, was a huge run just before that as well , narrowly beaten by some of the absolute BEST drives ever from Nat and Mark !!! The Amazing Dream and Spankem Quinella !! masterclass driving. No Mark tonight driving. so maybe 2nd for Amazing Dream. Give yourself a treat and go back and watch that Dec 31st race.
-
No, no I didn't forget Tim. I put him in up above in the selections to win Race 9 with Stag Party. (or go close) What surprised me was Blair getting the flick off AKUTA , after driving it well to easy win last week and $100,000 winner's cheque for owners CullenRacing and the Markie Boy himself (feet up with a beer in Owners lounge)! Love Nat's driving, but probably would of left Blair Orange on after that BIG win last week in the Harness million 2 year olds race by Akuta. ? bit stiff there BlairO to lose the drive, I reckon?. funny if Blair knocks it off tonight lol? but does seem unlikely, with the 4 x Cullen runners in that Group1 sires Race5 and he is on a 50-1 non-Cullen horse.

Welcome Jonesy !! Hey these things are great . The old Boy" I Can Doosit "wasn't gunna pick a tub while another horse galloping about the paddock like he would like to . What were they thinking ?? lol. I Can Doosit (whatta champ he is/was on the track !!) picked Garrards Horse and Hound , a major sponser around Australasia. I trained a horse for the founder Chris Garrard in Brisbane a while back . He'd often come around to the stable Sunday afternoon's like a lot of owners to check over there steeds and have a yarn, while you catch up on some shoeing or whatever. Chris has sponsored $100,000 's into racing. an amazing man. His Grandson Angus Garrard started driving at 17 year's old, 2 years ago in Brisbane, and has 200 odd driving wins already.!! quite astounding . 7th on the senior drivers table last season. I gave Angus's dad Darren Garrard (who only drove for a short while, and now a current Brisbane trainer) one drive once on a horse of mine , and he won too. excellent. Hope the needle jab settles for you Jonesy, Check out Sir Elton John doing the British Ad for vaccination on Youtube It is super funny , as he loses out to Sir Michael Caine.

Does seem rather harsh on McGrath. on a couple of basis points. The first to go was McGrath with a long sentence as a deterrent and example to others, then obviously Alford NOT deterred and went ahead with elaborate plan anyway. So should that make it be longer than the previous bloke , NOT shorter. (DQ sentence) and in Alford's case, didn't they accidently kill a horse? I mean that is pretty drastic. mis-treatment in more ways than one. and Formalin is what we used at Vet to 'Preserve' Biopsy samples from surgery in. It fixes tissue. and that was only 15% solution too. very strong stuff. you would rush to wash it off your skin if got a tiny splash on you , as is a very harsh chemical. Inject It into horse ?? deserves BIG sentence IMO.
-
After 5 WINS and a couple of trot second placings last Friday , Natalie is sure to go close to a repeat dose tonight. !! Some fabulous racing , and while Mark is smoking his pipe in the Owners lounge , waiting for Nat to bring AKUTA home in first place, Nat will be out on the Track doing the Hard yards , and looking after all the Punters ! (yet again) RACE2 Samhara R3, Wy Fi ,R4 OscarB, R5 Akuta, R6 SCArden, R7 RegalAttire, R8 BettorTwist (the Oaks G1) R9 ItalianLad Let's go for 4 WINS and 4 places. Too hard to win 8 races?? lol......... SPORTSBET odds WINS with Samhara@1.5 ,Akuta@2.0 ,SC Arden@1.3 , BettorTwist@1.2 and PLACES for the trotters (as more risky) Wi Fi@1.8 ,OscarB@1.3 ,RegalAttire@2.0 and ItalianLad@1.3 ITALIAN LAD (place) not a trotter I know , (but has had more chances than Brodie), and surely STAG PARTY (the Cullen stablemate) wins from the Pole draw? 27-1 odds !!!! brilliant ! a fiver gets you $100 and a couple of beers for the weekend ? yeah yeah, probably miss with one or 2 leg,s BUT you get to enjoy some GREAT racing Along the Way !!! Enjoy.
-
Jesse Alford (7 yearsDQ) , Nigel McGrath (8 yearsDQ) , and ....... not sure on third BUT , WHY did these 2 Trainers get a different sentence for the same thing ?
-
yes that Alford thing was pretty ordinary lately. never heard of that injection before. about once a month in Aus somewhere , someone will be trying the same thing. i.e (milkshake from the 90's era) and getting DQed. usually small time trainers running the gauntlet. in a different era they were fairly common, but testing this century is just too accurate. Irregularities pop up all the time, as horses are 'treated' all the time .just recently Amanda Turnbull and Kerryanne Morris (high profile trainers) are dealing with irregularities too. a lot of it is 'good staff' issues too, which I suspect is the case with the Sharrock Meth over their. Chris Waller had one of those in 2016 too. got off with a very big fine. wonder what happened to the staff member ?? lol.......
