Well Self Assured wasn't much hope in that with Scott Phelan just driving a road block race on Mach Shard, to make sure the horse he co-trains Merlin had easy time in front last lap. Was the least 'trying to beat the leader' drive I've ever seen in a 4 horse field . didn't even go up to it's wheel in a 57 second last half?. Scott Phelan is terrible driver at trying to win races and only drives when stable-mates are in as the 'get in the way' driver. so often it's not even funny. So therefore Brodster........ Think i'll Change angle and say ADDINGTON had/has the better/cleaner racing lol ππ€£

Is hard to understand you sometimes mate. The leading trainers and drivers in the country are at Auckland tonight and you still bag it. Just as well they're not at Addington or the poor old North would be like real shit. Why can't they do their thing ? Barry and Scott are turning out some lovely horses lately , and Bernie and Co have good Trotters , the 3 yearold race was great. John Dunn and Mark Purdon winning races. even your mate Carter is there instead of Addington. The Derby and Nz FFA winners are racing too . Merlin and Self Assured. Just don't see how it's Chalk and Cheese ??? . Still the same horses and drivers trotters and pacers. The VERY BEST there is are competing ??? No Chalk in sight.....πͺ It's not like you're comparing thoroughbreds to Standardbreds or anything... No the wonder the Game is Struggling so much in New Zealand these days with that level of support on a harness site.

Indeed. I think that is part of the problem. ALL the stables I've been in always had great owners . They would come on Sundays and pat their horse, and yak and have a beer etc, ..Be there on race-nights whether their horse was capable of getting a cheque or not. some horses run at a loss but they loved em anyway. At YOLE's , no one cares anymore. It's like they are on the production line to their doom , and are they capable of picking up a Tasmanian prizemoney cheque or not on their way to it. No caring owners to oversee their wellfare, JUST a concerned neighbour and ex-staff that have expressed concerns and Finally got action taken. Leap To Fame owner , millionaire Seymour has bred 100's of horses , so he supply's Yole with many (via the Bloodstock agent) and couldn't care less where they end up. Once you have that many horses , in a relentless quest to get a champion (which he finally achieved thank christ) , I guess you become insensitive to their needs and THIS Yole thing happens.
-
Yole Racing doesn't buy them. He is Supplied by Summit and Bain Bloodstock all the time with horses from around the nation that are going too slow in their own state (or nz) to earn anymore. A share of some size is then given to 'Yole racing Ltd' as the 'future training Fee' . this means Summit pays Nothing for the training week to week ,once they supply Yole with a horse. Hence the poor conditions the horses endure. and with No control from the outside owners group (s) Yole therefore gets a cut of the prizemoney. The 'penny share Summit share holders' probably get something like 10 bucks each when Yole wins a Tassie race with their 'soon to be deceased' pride and Joy horse.
-
Well there's quite a few players in Tas still.. Brodster. it's a big state. well sort of lol.... They still had the meetings last week without Yole. (albeit some small fields lol ) And this week next Sunday at Carrick, they have 10 races of 10 horses odd, Without Yole's runners . So all the players that look after their horses well are getting a go Without Yole Loading races , and the fixing and the like. the Tassie harness world improves instantly ! how good for them and the honest players there. Hopefully SUMMIT Bloodstock can use better Trainers that have BETTER care and Compassion with their horses in Tasmania Chief ?. that's the 'Alternative' you asked for Chief ? they must be embarrassed (and Aaron Bain too) by the shocking report.
-
Cockroaches are normally NSW . π . This Vic coochroach did try and win there in the Interdominion but had to settle for 2nd after a wide trip to the ex-pat kiwiman Brent Lilley who got Gavin Lang to steer his horse to Victory. seen here in photo the late Gavin Lang and his 'Game' little trotter.
-
You are obviously right Chief. I know the thoroughbred people have gone to great lengths to re-home and help with retired race-horses at the end of their racing days. but the stock are of some value, whereas the trotters are worth nothing . But as you say the Big Breeders have a 'Lot of horses' and they have to send them 'somewhere'. And Bloodstock agencies are the Specialists in this Area. so you would think it would be fine to deal with any of them. Indeed,...... I wasn't going to mention this because it makes me sick . Grant Dixon and millionaire owner Seymour (and 2 of Grants other Millionaire owners as well ) have that many horses they've bred All the old geldings when can't keep up at Albion anymore , are almost on a production line to Summit and Yole in Tasmania as a 'clearance' place to send them too. Dozens of horses past 4 years. and they are Fully knowing the chainsaw will start down there if the horse can't get a place at Hobart or Launceston. Disgraceful. I said to Grant you wouldn't send 'Leap To Fame' , (the Interdominion Champion) down there would you?... now They are not talking to me anymore πͺ

Not dictate too Chief.. I think if HRNZ are trying to run the Harness business , and encourage new owners and good racing , then they need to have some ethics when it comes to horse welfare. Mr Galah , Walt and I are saying because it's just off-shore , that doesn't mean we (HRNZ) should ignore it. Nz owners and Horses are involved. they should be informed .... I think the NZ harness racing industry is already suffering because of it currently.. Summit Bloodstock already buying Nz low class runners to place in racing around Australia. North Island is already struggling for numbers to run meetings. They have SOLD too many already and/or race them themselves in Aus now. There's still plenty of good races in Nz and owners should aspire to Winning them there. Brodie is often commenting how Poor Auckland is .... and Why should this be the case ? Owners should Not be dealing with Summit Bloodstock for 'penny share buyers' to race at Ben Yoles. The report was damning. His poor staff πͺ... i feel so bad for them .. Unfortunately Summit Bloodstock were part of the inaugural EUREKA winner from Emma Stewarts, so will be 'On the prowl' now, Buying up Nz horses, now Encipher is retired with injury. the horse got $1,000,000 first prize in this , Would be great to know how much each 'penny share owner' got out of all that. We'll never know, But After buying the Race-slot-slot, Summit Fees, Emma Stewart Fees would of been down to $1000 each lol... or thereabouts probably π .

Auckland 71 starters over 10 races Stakes $159k?
Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
She's back mate . and steering Oscar to Victory. AND i want you to say it . AUCKLAND fields are great this Week.?? surely you have to agree ? π π€£π You want to shut the place down ? but a 10 race card this week looks WAY Better than Addington?. will the 'Brodster Bias' kick in again ? The 3 yearold race looks good? . a very nice lot of horses. You'll probably say the FFA is crap even though it has the double NZ FFA winner and NZ Derby winner in it ? Great stuff mate. even with Hot and Treacherous and South Coast Arden and a host of others racing in Australia now , you can still have some quality horses at Auckland. You must be pleased with the Ribbon of Light ??? good on em . Great meeting . -
hahaha that's not possible . No one known would punch out the great maori chief ever. The foremost authority on nz harness ever. A great of the sport. Brodster is more of a pacifist and unlikely to swing the arms . The bloke who made a vaccine might be in a spot of bother , or Labour party, or TAB , but apart from that i'm sure he would buy you a beer old Ranga mate. WHo is this to prove your mettle? lol π π€£ big Nz winner ? lol

well Weir was quilty and penalised . 4 years served. I don't mind if he comes back training personally. He served his time. Unlikely to do it again. Plenty of trainers in the past have been re-licensed after serving their time. YOLE is allegedly at this stage ... but warned off in the meanwhile lol π. To answer your questions in my opinion . a/ the worms need to see horses treated with a bit of care and compassion . racing and trotting. the good news is ...most Are . you have to pull up the likes of Yole and the Kaikoura bloke who neglected his a bit at one stage , and make sure they do the right thing (by the horse, their owners and the racing game in general. B/ c/ and D/ no no and No .... all just bits of equipment like a girth or a crupper or anything else that are part and parcel of racing horses. I don't even buy into the whip arguement . horses are horses . we're trying to race them to finish first . and in a SAFE manner so that rivals and themselves aren't in any peril from idiots . which you don't see much with the great horsemen and horsewomen we are blessed with in New Zealand and Australia.

'Treat your horses appropriately with respect and Compassion' would be a great start. The owner angle that the Galah just mentioned should be a Priority. it's already snowballing. Ben Yole has Bain Bloodstock and Summit Bloodstock as their Tasmanian Trainer Chief . They syndicate hundreds of horses per year to 'Penny Share folk ' like the Wolf of Wall St would, and place them All round the country trying to collect any prizemoney they can . Summit Bloodstock owning huge chunk of The runners in Tamworth these days as they continually swoop on 'Cheap ' horses to gather the stakes. They own well over half of YOLE's runners. The owners have NO SAY where these horses race ( a REAL downfall on being in a syndicate instead of really racing a horse yourself) so ALL the Slow ones end up with YOLE and then at the greys as tucker. Summit Bloodstock now have spread to NZ and using Steven Reid (north) and Matty Williamson (South) . So a lot of small time folk in NZ are seeing their 'Pride and Joy' ultimately fail locally and make it to the Big time of Tasmania at YOLE's ? . NZer's are involved . so HRNZ should say something . have some balls and recommend some NZ Bloodstock groups or something better. Do this for the horses sake, the view of NZ owners and even Just for the sake of the reputation of the Sport ..
-
Everyone was told to hush up about the leading galloper trainer too . Darren Weir . It was his own business. Why don't we use your idea and say 'Mind your own Business "?? Because we care About the horses Chief ( and in Yole's case the poor staff as well) they're involved in the industry we All love (or most of us) and we want to see Horses treated well and races conducted Fairly. I don't give a rat's arse about Tasmanian harness racing either , even though am from there . ( here's a photo of my granddad winning at Elwick (a fair while back lol π) General public don't give a rats arse about NZ harness either Chief. But ALL the participants do . And the Galah and I gave about 10 reasons why HRNZ should give an arse about it (the tasmanian situation) . Not the least reason being as Galah said A LOT of the horses come from NZ . we care what happens to them. even though as you say None of us Control it . But HRA and HRNZ should . (try and control it ?)

Maradona / Rangatira ........both are AAA rated star players (and with three A's in the name ) . Both can 'handle' the pressure on the sports field ?. and can 'Kick ?' a goal should the Big occasion ask for it. π

New Zealand horses often competes in Australia chief. the CEO has South Coast Arden competing here all year round now for example... Surely they need to know the Rules of Australian racing and have some input/comment on it at HRNZ ???? and if the rules are being compromised by anyone ( seems by the countries leading Trainer no less) What is happening in Tasmania should be of HUGE interest.? It's very close to home ? Auckland to Hobart 2422 km , closer than Brissy at 2500km lol. so take some action Chief. Tell them you (repping for nz harness reputation) are Not Happy with it. Who wants this stuff happening on your back door-step ? Speak up and show disapproval . Politicians do that with each other all the time. we want 'Horse Welfare' and stable conditions ...and fair un-tainted racing to be a Priority. Hopefully racing New Zealand spoke out against Darren Weir? and ALL the jiggers were thrown away so that sort of thing No Chance of happening again in Nz and Australia ? the administrators really need to take a stand against some things !!!π fair play and happy healthy horses is what we need .... in both countries.

A couple of Days on and All Yoles horses are scratched tonight in Hobart too. It's almost a TABOO topic. The live coverage from Melton on TV didn't mention it . The Tasmanian reporter on the Australian AHR website didn't mention it. Just said there was 2 Walkovers from all the scratchings in his report of the nights racing. Ben Yole is warned off All courses . The report is damning . It's A HUGE Story but everyone is Ignoring it lol. I guess some things make the honest participants squirm and they just can't face it. He had 7 disgruntled employees reporting stuff π³. Must of been a pleasure to work for/with ? Not. Can you imagine the Impact in New Zealand if the leading Trainer (Telfer or Dunn) was warned off for systematic fixing races with numbers of runners, and other horse welfare issues ?? It would be Huge. Aaron Bain supplying horses should be embarassed (by their care after) I guess with B.Yole , everyone sort of knew this day would come. He didn't change his ways much from the TV report on ABC aired 8 months ago anyway, so a forced shut-down of his operation, seems the best option for the integrity of the sport. Bloke never won Metro races anyway ,not even in slow old Tasmania, and was ONLY the leading Trainer in Australia because of 'Stacking very low class Races ' with 10 to 12 runners quite often.... the sport will NOT miss this sort of treatment of horses and belittlement of the sport , hope he never returns .

He certainly has a bit more smoothing out to do. Don't Stop Dreaming is one Terrific horse though. Only just turned 4 and Mark has taken on the Interdominion Champion already and did very well last night. Was throwing the head about in the Big NZ Derby in December too. and was closing late exactly like the photo above to Merlin in that as well, after a wide run to the death seat as well. Natalie Rasmussen would be proud of her 'boys' in the Hunter Cup Quinella. She was once married to the Trainer driver of the winner Grant Dixon. Mark showing less commitment for a while lol π
-
Mark Purdon nearly took out the Hunter Cup Saturday night. Don't Stop Dreaming very close at the end. If it had been 2 miles like it used to be in the Hunter Cup when Blossom Lady was winning it a couple of times , he would of caught LEAP TO FAME and taken the victory for New Zealand. Don't Stop Dreaming a great long term NZ Cup prospect. Grimson Won the 4 yearold Bonanza tonight too. with a Queenslander he acquired recently . Punted 100-1 into 6-1 to Win the $2,000,000 Eureka this year. that was before Frankie Ferocious had his first start for the GRIM one tonight. Might be even shorter now . Go Grimmo !!!

It's a standing start mate. What if it gallops away ? What's the chances of breaking gear in a one horse race ? hahahaπ
-
There obviously plenty of credit to your arguement . Some stablemates get right of passage more than others on occasion. I'm NOT a fan of the scenario of a 'bunny' . i.e one used to force the pace, hold the lead against rivals at all costs , that sort of thing. Actually was discussing a case the other day where Madrid at her last start in the Group 1 2 yearold fillies on Derby Day, was used up a bit by Sam Ottley in the run and she was looking for Mark to come round with Treacherous Baby a lap out . was a bit of a bunny I thought. Mark run down by Duchess Megxit in the end . I'll tell you what though , even when Emma has a fair few in those Group races , she uses a variety of drivers including several Lady drivers (One of them winning that Victoria Cup too) and they all seem to drive their own race without any concession to stablemates. I haven't spotted anything dubious , and got a pretty good eye for it. (IMO π) And in fairness to YOLE, he uses a variety of young and senior drivers and the few Tassie races I have watched , I can't spot any giving help to stablemates blantantly either . I've seen no actual 'helping' another if you know what I mean. They are probably just doing the best they can to get the horse around the course and not get banished back to the trials for poor performanceπ.
-
I look at those races and I don't see it . The Vic Derby comes round each year , as well as Vic bred, and Breeders crown , and those sort of races with qualifying heats. Emma will have 2-3 runners per heat. Her Stable has great stock (like Allstars and now Barry Purdon too with the Entain CEO buying horses for him like Merlin ) so these mobs set the horses for these type of races run top 6 in the heats , then top 6 in the semi's , so are All usually in the finals. Good horse PETRACCA won the Vic Derby for them . And Emma got the FIRST 4 in the Vic Oaks from memory on TV. Vic Cup night . (she won that too beating Leap To Fame) so NOTHING wrong with supporting Emma Stewart , Allstars or Big Barry's runners. Why ? because they Always give you a run for the Money . always. no matter how many from their stables are in the race. And they are quality races too. YOLE ? you are very lucky if you get a run for your money . horses are flat out to run 2 minutes MR. you couldn't possibly support them . some backwater low class slop races...Punters wouldn't look at them.... or as Walt said earlier here... you couldn't ethically support them either.
-
you're sort of wrong mate . The races where Emma gets a third of the field and sometimes half are because they Qualified for them . Semi -Finals and Finals . so they have to start. In a general nuts and bolts race Emma just has one or 2 the same as anyone else might . YOLE doesn't go for Qualifying for any big races. Just loads the Nuts and Bolts races with slow horses. Apparently their is still Betting on them . ? so they still run them ? How ? I couldn't possibly invest a cent on Yole runners ...
-
They qualify a big chunk of the field in the Sires Stakes races each year. They set their horses for those Group 1 races , Oaks , Derbies etc and qualify as many as they can because they are good at it. So don't agree with the Galah about Stewart multiples. So I don't see a bad look at all myself. Group 1 racing with the best horses in it . Fabulous. I've just been arguing with someone at another station about Tim Williams , apparently rigging the Marlborough Cup for John Dunn to Win . John Dunn did win it and Dunn's probably had a few in it and ..... Instant Waaalaaa . stablemates accused of collaberation. Someone Didn't like the Look of it lol. BTW Tim Williams did nothing wrong IMO. Marlborough Cup. Happens all the time with stablemates in a race though.. . Yole has 10 of the 12 runners in a lot of races π³.... so that LOOK is quite Bad as far as collaberation goes, no way could it be run 'Every man for himself ' . just a sham really.
-
Very sorry for your loss of racing stock to injury Yankeeman. Maybe get a pacer ? they race year after year and career ending injury quite rare. Might be different with thoroughbreds. Your awful injury toll had me looking at the list of stable horses that trained over a five year period from stables where I participated . They (horses) do get strain on flexor tendons and we tend to rub linament on and/or use poultice occasionally , but of the 4 , I can remember with tendon and suspensory issues , 3 of them continued to race . only one bowed and didn't I can think of (list of about 100 horses) Standardbreds race around 30mph compared to the greys and thoroughbreds at 40- 45 mph so are much Less likely to hurt themselves . And it's a LOT of FUN. !!ππ
