Vacation Hill scratched at Melton so Blackie can sub onto the short priced favourite , the old Williamson trotter Ultimate Stride who won a heap over there. -

The ex-Pat kiwi winners are in the fight, for A great night of racing coming up in Oz (between 7 and 10 pm Nz Time) of 21 races. The first 7 races on the card at Albion park, Menangle and Melton. All are welcome to pick a team !!!💰. A , B , C , or D ...post your tip here. The challenge is to select the best Team from the start of the thread to defeat Gammalite's Aussie Team on points. Team A has Brodie driving as (perhaps with A is for 'Agent' , and A is for 'Adios' ) so Special Agent and Paleface Adios can join him on that gang of hopeful winners.!! Team B listed above has the B for Blackie written all over it. 😎 hope they run well for you matey. Team C listed above has C for Chief , choosing the Interdom winner team. A wise choice I think. Team D listed has The Galah picking those fine kiwi horses to get the job done. D is for Davis and D for is Doomed as well , so even though Davis has D for disappeared sadly, he will get a start with this 'Doomed' team. 😉 Gammalite's Oz team all at home chewing their oats at the moment, ready to hold this lot at bay All going well 😆 -

Think you know 'South Coast Arden' ( the New Zealand FFA winner) ?? and 'I Cast No Shadow' ( who is the current Interdominion Pacing Champion ) can't get any bigger than that. He is racing in Brisbane tomorrow night. Also here is Can'tFindabettorman (here's a photo from his battling in Gore wet days 😂) Cantfindabettorman was 3rd in the Group 1 'Chariots of Fire' in February for Luke McCarthy . He will definitely be winning at Albion tomorrow night. could be 3 winners for you in Group C right there Chief . 🏆🏆🏆 -
Should All Animal Activists Get Stable Time?
Gammalite replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Trotting Chat
Did you hear anything more about the Kaikoura bloke ? Had a lot of horses running loose in the bush and some were put down eventually due to poor condition ?? Murray Boyd was charged. Aussie trainers no better either. Often trainers or owners with Big properties just let them run loose in the bush to fend for themselves for a length of time . I've seen it at 3 places I know of. Just part of the parcel sometimes. The Oz equivalent of SPCA ( the RSPCA) has investigated Australia's 'leading' Trainer Ben Yole at least 10 times on welfare issues. and this is for horses that are actually racing. But he was passed fit to train as horses , even though without nice shelter options in Tassie, were rugged and fed enough to satisfy humane requirements. -

The team to try and beat is the Aussie contingent represented by these runners below. Here's the Gammalite team of Aussie bred runners. Seems unlikely it will get beaten by any Nz mob above. But select Team A , B C or D above post to take em' on if you think you can do it , or just have a stab in the dark to support your old kiwi equine champs... TEAM Oz. And home the 'Hustler' goes in the 3rd race today. And as Matty Hill commentator said . 2kgs off , 3 kgs off , doesn't matter . Wiremu Pinn still Wins anyway !!!! 💰 Go you little champion .🏆.
-
Don't think you can ?? Wiremu was much more likely to Win a Group race in NZ though . (than Carleen) Wiremu is credited with a Group 1 Win actually. The Otaki WFA classic , but his total career earnings are a little over $4 million from 1300 rides . so perhaps he would get Group Race rides all over Nz ? Carleen Hefel is near $8 million from 1750 career rides (178 wins) BUT that only contains one Group 3 race placing. The apprentices rarely get any Group race rides in Oz.
-
Well we got a little bit of 'Swing ' going for a few years anyway Chief . The King reigned supreme 😎. What are we reduced to now then ? If not the sport of Kings ...(don't say puppets, paupers, muppets, pirates or floggers). they've all been taken already 😉
-
here's the rides today. moments ago they were all still showing a 3kg claim on Sportsbet , but are just being changed to his 'New" 2kg claim systematically now as I look at it. Wiremu is still listed as riding all 7 horses at the moment. Fellow apprentice riding today Carleen Hefel has been riding since 2018 with 178 odd career wins (near the same as Wiremu Pinn) and she claims 2kg still. But she has about 50 Metro class wins worth near $4 million in prizemoney. 14 Jun 2023 HIGHBOY SANDOWN-HILLSIDE (VIC) R2 - TILE IMPORTER HANDICAP 2400m AUD $55,000 13:00 14 Jun 2023 BORN HUSTLER SANDOWN-HILLSIDE (VIC) R3 - TOBIN BROTHERS CELEBRATING LIVES HCP 1600m AUD $55,000 13:35 14 Jun 2023 JUNGLE SENSATION SANDOWN-HILLSIDE (VIC) R4 - IVE > HANDICAP 1000m AUD $55,000 14:10 14 Jun 2023 GALGANI SANDOWN-HILLSIDE (VIC) R5 - EVERGREEN TURF HANDICAP 1400m AUD $55,000 14:45 14 Jun 2023 MR MOJO RISIN' SANDOWN-HILLSIDE (VIC) R6 - SENET GAMBLING LAW EXPERTS HANDICAP 1300m AUD $55,000 15:20 14 Jun 2023 TASMAN PARK SANDOWN-HILLSIDE (VIC) R7 - STOW STORAGE SOLUTIONS HANDICAP 1500m AUD $55,000 15:55 14 Jun 2023 MAYFAIR SPIRIT SANDOWN-HILLSIDE (VIC) R8 - THOROUGHBRED CLUB AUSTRALIA HCP 1800m AUD $55,000

It's the sport of kings mate. A big big chunck of the owners are millionaires or haven't you noticed that over the years? they quite expect to have a few losing horses (or pay a Service Fee with their mare.) Not going to be average 'Joe from the pub' racing horses. they're too busy losing their money on the punt lol.😆
-
Hence they charge the appropriate amount Service Fee for their stallions that does 'cover their costs' and they stand terrific stallions and provide the industry with great quality options . Breeder or yearling/weanling Sale buyer. so all seems well with the kiwi harness world then . as far as the large stud farm's go ......(might be the 'Smaller' mobs that need some mares more I would think. ) They were selling weanlings Brodster . so costs won't be exactly huge or anything . not a lot of handling breaking in or or racing or shoeing or anything much yet. they are a Stud operation so are used to having foals around. guess horse feed (although don't you have lush green pasture Nz ? ) is on the way up in price these days though .. they better check those books and evaluate lol.😄😉
-
Well lets say those that don't want to pay the 25k or the 20k for Bettor's Delight and Captain Treacherous . Two of the very best there is as we all know, they'll end up at a 'cheaper stallion' with their mare. whether she be good or bad by whatever criteria is being used 😆. and their chances of victory decrease the lower down the pecking order they go ............ Unusual sort of analogy Brodster .. but I hear what you are saying but a Sale that gives something to the industry hard triers is a great idea really. Mt Negus got 6 or 7 lots I believe ? and Woodlands may of run at a loss in dollar terms but they still have the mares , and they got the exposure . (very cheap advertising) A horse sale is NOT as FRequent though as the constant weekly battle the Bookies v Punter engage in. But the benefits to them (Woodlands) are good too as Chief pointed out. And retail giants have Big Sales a couple of times a year, that might make them run at a loss (e.g like Myer and Davy Jones or whatever ) It's Just for the day. But the exposure is enormous... and good products are given to consumers. they return for More !!!

Royal Ascot great race meeting is on this week
Gammalite replied to Gammalite's topic in Galloping Chat
Thanks Bill. I'm forever 2 or 3 hours behind you kiwi blokes .😂. keeping up with things lol. and usually 9 or so hours ahead of the Poms. Thought i would try for the whole week by the look of it. 😄 Good news is the Aussie Baggie Greens have taken the World Championship Cricket title last night over in Pommieland , defeating India just as the Nz Black-Caps did 2 years ago . and Now for the ASHES from Friday on !!!! bring it home lads ! ....... (and Royal Ascot too.... eventually 😄) -
Exactly ! so in that case the answer to the Brodster's question at the beginning is Yes the Sale was a success. People participants were able to purchase youngsters at a great price at the sale 💰. and By-pass the offending Stallion Fees. There are now some happy owners (maybe even some New enthusiasts) with a nice foal that we All hope can get to the races for them. have some more sales. excellent idea for promotion of the industry. (ask any retail store 😉 ) Studmasters can keep their carefully calculated Service Fees . The better quality mares (black type /blue bloods, etc ) will continue to be put to these Proven stallions and some great foals will result. Nz will continue to breed some of the world's best as per normal. Market saturation of foals from a massive SERVICE FEE drop is Not The Answer. the quality of the product would be affected. Blood-lines would narrow. any old mare is put to the stallion . reputation could be lost. Why stand the world's best Stallions for less than they are valued at in today's market ? Quality makes the stallion , not quantity.

Another one to get a holiday for driving to lose the race
Gammalite replied to Nowornever's topic in Trotting Chat
Interesting that today was 'Billed' as the Bob Butt racing stables Day of harness racing at Addington. But he didn't have any in today ? didn't want to support his own day ? seems a strange turn of events lol.😁 Wonder how many he (Bob Butt) trains then ? seems a fair trainer. Manhattan with 3 x 2nds at Auckland last month. Shows how tough the game is in NZ really . when a multiple Group placed mare like Manhattan , has only won $15,000 prize money for the year. No wonder the Nz game is going to the pack and they're racing more and more in Aus. Hope he brings her QLD next month. Saw him 2 years ago when came to Queensland with Gold Chain. But he didn't drive it very well unfortunately , and she didn't win in the 4 attempts at Albion Park. Had good form last year in Nz , but disappeared last Winter. had a heap of placings in a row too..... -
Another one to get a holiday for driving to lose the race
Gammalite replied to Nowornever's topic in Trotting Chat
Love the old Amatuer drivers races. ....plenty of horses changing directions whenever 😄 Mrs Negus gave us some entertainment (and plenty of forum discussion once ) taking on the leader . great stuff lol. Today she has bounced back nicely to take the win . good on her lol... and the 60 drives only lady Jo-ann, driving on the Negus stable-mate fav, has made an error. yeah I'm sure that Jo-ann would love to have that race done again , and just switch to the outside ??? there were only 7 in it . so you wouldn't think you could get chopped out on the big Addington track. 😂 but life-time 60 drive amatuers are very much just learning as they go I spose. -
Well if you want to win the feature races you would have to go to the expensive stallions to get the 'Speed' needed to compete at the top level. They go like scolded Cats these days. A couple of breeders in my neck of the woods would of spent tens of thousands breeding em' and racing em'. It's what they like to do . Only a small fraction of horses that race , return a 'Career' profit. Seymour and Shannon. Exactly like Chief says 'The State of the Economy' is the bigger reason harness racing is dying. It's just not a cheap hobby anymore. Kevin Seymour (developer) has finally bred his best LEAP TO FAME , but it took a thousand tries . He actually imported Mr Feelgood , and won the Interdominion with it (surpriseingly beating Blacks A Fake at Gold Coast lol) before standing him at stud . he has spent millions I would say. The new CEO of your new betting conglomerate bred horses for years .Dean Shannon with Montana stud here. Now prefers to just by the yearlings at your NZ sales past couple of years . Merlin , etc, and put them with Barry Purdon . A dozen or so horses. He likes Always B Miki fillies too. Because your yearling prices have dropped that much. Much easier to pick one of those up than breed a horse ? added advantage being, is you can see the nice type right in front of you before you buy.
-
They tried it once. Dave Jessop brought in Vance Hanover and stood him at $500 or $1000 or something like that , and the landscape was flooded with Vance Hanover's . 500 per season for 2 or 3 years . Artificial Insemination was used . but didn't work. sure Christopher Vance turned up and Our Sir Vancelot amongst others, but so did heaps and heaps of battlers not paying their way and it just belittled the product . Better to do your homework and breed your mare to the best cross you can find. As I said there's a pecking order. Bettor's Delight leads the way with Lazarus his prize foal (out of a Christian Cullen mare ) so a golden cross right there. These are some of the best sires and racehorses the Planet has Ever seen. Of course you should have to Pay something to be part of the elite. Bound to be some stallions up the road there in Canterbury standing for $1000?. go to them if you don't want to Pay for the best lol. Captain Treacherous at $20,000 looks the go to me at Cobbity farms . great value. fabulous stock. Lucky you guys don't look at the thoroughbred service fees or you'd die of Heart attacks lol......😂😂 (think a thoroughbred stallion like e.g 'I Am Invincible' is about $1/4 million service fee these days)
-
Very excited to see the best meeting in the world on this week for 5 straight days Tuesday to Saturday. some of The best on the planet on show racing the famous course. Thrilled for ex-pat kiwis Chris Waller with Jmac riding conquered the world there last year with Nature Strip. This year, the Group1 Lightning winner COOLANGATTA is there to take em' on. A great Aussie name to do us proud hopefully. How's this for a great bit of trivia. >>>>>>>>> All Six of our down-under Royal Ascot winners won the Group 1 'Lightning Stakes' down the Flemington straight, before going over to England ! quite amazing. Choisir started the ball rolling , followed by Takeover Target, Miss Andretti, Scenic Blast , Black Caviar and Nature Strip. all were Flemington Lightning winners. hoping for Coolangatta to make it the lucky 7 this year 🏆. there is also Artorius and The Astrologist also having a crack this year during this week as well. The queen is sadly completed her reign , so hoping the King 'Heir apparent' William and Kate take up the Royal prestige of the event .
-
Thanks Freda , SA and Chief too. Great article there Chief on the young fella from NZ doing well. I realise I was probably a bit behind the times and everyone there in the gallops world knew young Pinn was over in Oz landed already, and I got a bit excited finding out just yesterday 😂. But 'knowledge is wealth' as they say and conversely 'ignorance is poverty' . so better to keep up on the pace in this tough racing game .😊🏇
