Good question! it is interesting that the virus did not get into Beijing and the other big cities in China? Do I believe that China Govt.respects its peoples lives? No I don’t and there are several reasons for saying that! Do I believe that they acted the way they did on purpose? Yes I do! Of course many won’t agree with me and that is their prerogative but what you couldn’t disagree with is that the way it was handled by them and WHO was abysmal!!! NZ is in a pretty good way in terms of the no. Of cases currently and only 10 in hospital nationwide and prob all with existing conditions. Do I think we are being led by a competent government at this time? Hell no!!! -
It is purely going to come down to how many horses are still going to be in work! The way things are going to be over the next 6 months, I wouldn’t think there is going to be that many owners wanting to shell out thousands of dollars per month to have a horse trained! Stakes are going to be much reduced for quite awhile as well, so not a great prospect when a lot of the owners will have businesses that have suffered greatly. Will the owners who have year on year been making a loss, be bothered? Every trainer and jockey or driver is going to have their incomes decimated and many just will not be able to cont8nue in the racing industry in the future unfortunately. The racing model has been broken for quite a while and this has been a major wake up call, that hopefully it can recover from. The hierarchy in NZ Racing have been taking salaries far in excess of what they probably deserved and as yet I have not heard anything from them, in regards to taking large income cuts, like everyone else in racing have. Hardly likely I would say, as they have never really acted in the best interests of racing in recent years!!!!

Way South has probably started his postings with a bit too much hatred, even though he is possibly stating what a heck of a lot of people around the world are thinking! My personal view is that the Chinese government and the World Health Organization have been blatantly negligent and are very much to blame for what has occurred. So many around the world killed and the world financial systems killed by the piss poor efforts of these 2 parties. So many people are now going to suffer because of the Chinese government laxness, and we are meant to accept this? Chief, whether this has been around for years is irrelevant, the Chinese and WHO have effed up majorly, and everyone is now paying. I also believe that there is a lot more to it than an innocent nat spreading a disease!!!!!! -

Nobble no one Ranga! Chief, we have had oNe death in NZ unfortunately apparently she had existing conditions. If we had healthy people dying I would take this more seriously! Italy, always have thousands die every year as they have an aged population, There is so much false news being given by the news media it just isn’t funny!!! -

John Curtin had this corona virus and said that it was not as bad as the flu! So many have it and yet there are next to no symptoms and yet we are closed down? There is more to it than this flu that was spread by people from a country that is still got these fucken markets!! Why on earth are these People allowed to continue spreading these calamitous viruses around the world as it is not the first time? Are they that damned thick and primitive that the China government allow this to continue?? FFS there needs to be pressure on the Chinese government to stop this shit NOW! World governments now need to say we are not going to allow this and stop every Chinese person from coming into our country unless you stop these wet markets because you are spreading your disgusting viruses worldwide and you have totally effed every country except your own!!! -
No NZ Harness so is everyone bored by now? News is about as exciting as Auckland mile racing! What can we all do to get thru this long winded lockdown period? Does anyone at all know of anyone that has got this Covid19 virus? I certainly don’t!!! One person passed away and the whole country is locked down and going to be paying for this for generations!!

Gallops yawn, trots still on at night!

Thru to the keeper on that one? What you mean u can’t have nothing? Only second day Ranga, you might be losing it already?.
-
You reckon? Integrity not shown All of the time!, We would be better off having a common sense unit
-
RIU hardly an essential industry, at the best of times!
-
No one will get thru this unscathed, but we fortunately will be fine. It is a matter of everyone riding it out and we will get thru it, some better than others tho.

Chief, thanks for that re salaries! 136 employees over $100k! Wonder what these 136 employees actually do for their well above average salary? From the outside looking in, it appears that their costs are exhorbitant and the industry can not afford to be paying this amount of money for a battling industry.
-
I read something that said that there heaps employed that were on far more than $100k!!! FFS, what on earth are all these employees doing that warrants a salary in excess of $100K? No wonder the costs are so high and the stake money being paid out to the people that actually pay to race horses is now no higher than what the stakes were 30 years ago!!
-
Yeah I better than nothing I suppose, but I now feel sorry for the TAB as they need all the money they can get, so that the employees can retain their large salaries!
-
Whiteman, I think there will be many owners that will say to their trainers, turn the horse out. What is the point of having a horse in full work when there is no chance of earning any stake money in the next month? Might as well give the horse a break and see what happens in the next month or so? Many owners will not be able to afford having a horse or two in work anyway, with many will be looking to get out of owning and racing horses in the future! Yes, it is a very unfortunate event not just for racing but for all businesses and people’s retirement. .It is going to take a helluva long time to semi recover from this and all because of the health standards of an overseas country!!!!! Fortunately we haven’t had any deaths so far, and touch wood they are few and far between now. Problem is that there are going to be so many people without sufficient income to survive without major assistance. Most people have a mortgage or rent to pay and that isn’t going to go away. Brodie will be fine although he may suffer bouts of boredom without racing however, at the end of the day, keeping everyone safe and alive is far more important! Wishing all BOAY bloggers and supporters a safe time in our time of exile!

Na can’t go to housie! Can’t hear the caller, can’t see the numbers and my hands shake too much to be able to mark the card! No racing now so have to stick to annoying the nurses!
-
Have to keep our sense of humour the way things are! So many are going to be affected by job losses and loss of capital thru share drops!

Are you still having afternoon naps?
-
Too slow Ranga clearly

A heck of a lot more on opening in NZ

Saw that Greg, but for the two mares still to be racing they must’ve been served after approx 24th November last year that seems pretty late doesn’t it?
-
Racing them in foal when they are 3 or 4 months, you wouldn’t think would be that comfortable for the embryo! imagine being the foal and having your mum running aro7nd the training track and then the race track every day at speed. You would think it would be kind of upsetting wouldn’t you! Its a wonder the animal rights activists have not co e down on it? Bugger, RIU might now do that! Na, do busy chasing their tails, while they have got jobs! Think they will be eliminating some of them soon!i
-
Months ago it was announced on Trackside that RocknPop and Vinnie Rulz we’re both racing in foal! I note that both are still racing and in at Waimate today. Wondering how long they were allowed to race for before they were retired from racing in NZ? We all know that mares normally race better when they are in foal, but you would think that if they were 4 months or so that the embryo would’ve grown sufficiently large to be a hindrance to the mares racing ability. Certainly couldn’t see a human female sporting ability improving when she is 4 months pregnant, quite the opposite!

The NZ TAB have an absolute cheek to be even asking for anything from the taxpayer. Every week they take money from the NZ taxpayer and are not actually providing a helluva lot for it! it is a betting platform where people offload money and they just take a per centage!! Why on earth are they going cap in hand to the taxpayer asking for them to just give them money ?? It beggars belief that they need money, when they will make money each and every week by the way they operate! Is the NZ TAB saying that this costs are higher than what they are netting and are therefore losing money??? I seriously doubt it and if it is then do not expect the taxpayer to give you anything! Hardly an essential service, button down the hatches and ride it out with all of the other businesses!!!!!!
