Why do our champion mares not leave champion race horses??
Brodie replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
Not at all Ranga! That is the question, why don’t they? Human athletes tend to leave good athletes but not with harness horses for some reason. You would think that their attributes would be passed on to their progeny wouldn’t you? -

How many did it win Roman? Why have they retired it after only racing at 2? -
Interesting question is why do our champion mares not leave horses that are ever as good as themselves! Do the AllStars champion mares that they have had, never left much of note unless you can think of some? You would think with the ability that some mares show combined with champion stallions, they would leave other champions, but doesn’t seem that way at all!! Good broodmares continue to leave winner after winner, despite many of them being unraced or lightly raced. Will be very interesting to see what Adore Me and it’s relations who have been champions for the AllStars Do in the breeding barn!

Let’s face it The AllStars horses can do things that horses from all other stables can not. You have got your head in the sand if you believe it is all to do with being more professional! It is not going to get any better and you are going to be racing for the scraps in the big stakes races going forward. Do you think the AllStars give a rats about the other harness participants? Not on your nelly,
-
Why should anyone bother to take notice? Don’t give a rats if they don’t take any notice, but my prerogative to continue to point out that the TAB don’t treat all punters the same. Do I need to punt for financial reasons? No I am fortunate that I don’t need to, however if the NZ TAB continues to alienate punters they will continue to go backwards and the harness will suffer which it already is! Has got nothing to do with how much the Bookies are holding on the race whatsoever Greg!!!!! They restrict certain winning punters and take large wagers from known losing punters! You need rewiring Greg if you believe that the TAB is right in restricting punters all the while paying exorbitant salaries to employees that do very little to deserve them, while the racing industry continues to struggle and owners and trainers battle!!!
-
Don’t disagree JJ! Firm in my beliefs and when there are injustices, I will clearly continue to push the barrow! Why should punters be treated differently? Is my money not as good as the next punters?

Was meant to read Natalie rather than Amalie previously lol. Brodster never cries Ranga! You never know , with Xmas racing nearly upon us, he may well make a determined effort!
-
Brad got done for excessive use, that is more than 10 hits with the whip! The question is, does Amalie Rasmussen use the whip more than 10 times in the last 400m, the answer is she used it more than 10 times in the last 200m, but nothing is said!!!!! Nat doesn’t care, she is a repeat offender as we all know.

The Box Seat on Wednesday night will be a pukeathon and I won’t be watching it lol. It is pretty embarrassing for harness racing when one stable is just so dominant and what is the point of Trackside paying 4 people on the panel to predict and tip winners, when the winners all basically pay $1.30 or thereabouts? Seriously, it appeared that Whale and Micky were a bit perplexed by what had happened tonight dividend wise. Micky instead turned to tipping out the head to heads rather than tipping out winners. Bring back racing where you see different owners and trainers with big smiles on their faces, rather than the continuation of the ones we are seeing which is just a blatant turnoff for most people except GooooBoooooyyeeeeeehaaaaa etc etc.

It is blatantly ridiculous just how much better the AllStars horses are than horses from every other stable in NZ and Australia. Emma Stewart didn’t bother sending anything over as she knew it just wasn’t worth the expense, when she can win at home. How on earth can a horse sit parked the whole way in an Interdominions final and win?. How can a horse that wouldn’t be in their top 6, gallop out and settle down lengths behind the field and go around and still win? No other stable in the country has a horse that can perform like this, and horses normally just can’t do this?? Trainers in NZ you are clearly second rate compared to the Blue and Silver and you have got your work cut out to win any Group race in NZ with AllStar horses involved!! Going to be very hard to attract new owners to get involved when the costs to have a horse trained are now so high and the returns are so poor!
-
Yay, Self Assured $1.20 This has to be attractive for attracting new people to punting on harness racing! I wonder what big bets have been made tonight? Have they got anything in at the Mot. tomorrow?
-
What an amazing run of short priced favourites so far as the Auckland meeting starts to wind down. I doubt there has ever been a meeting that has so many short priced favourites prevailing. $2.10 $2.10 $1.30 $1.30 $1.30 $1.80 $1.60 and$1.30 yes some will say that it is easy money, but seriously what a waste of time when you are collecting peanuts. The Australians won’t be bringing their horses over for the big races in NZ in any numbers again, while this domination is around.
-
I have been watching Auckland Interdominions tonight! The AllStars stables horses are just so far better than anyone else’s it isn’t funny. If you have got a good horse and it isn’t in the Purdon/Rasmussen stable and you get offered good money for it, you might as well sell it if you need the money, as you have no chance of winning the group races. Another Masterpiece, who was a short priced favourite draws 2 at the gate and gallops out and settled down many lengths off the last horse and out of the race normally. But the horses from this stable are just not your normal good horses, he catches the field and goes 3 wide for a good distance and then gets up to beat Classic Brigade who ran 4th in the NZ Cup this year. Unbelievable and yes a phenomenal performance by a very good horse but FFS how do you expect to be able to beat them?????
-
Ranga, glad you think That I have good work. Not sure why it is, but just dating the facts!! The reason given for the $1000 rule was to control money laundering thru racing and stop punters financing terrorism!
-
Brodie is well of gallops being popular with more people than Harness! You are right, that I am not a big fan of watching gallops as not overly exciting, even though ai used to go to Riccarton many years ago. As for investing on harness racing,I haven’t had one since the TAB accused us all of being potential money launderers or financing terrorism acts!
-
Not much wrong with my eyes Badger! Just saying if you are watching gallops there is buggerall action until the last 200m in most races Being so far away from the public, hard to pick up the horse you have backed.
-
I am talking about being on Course!
-
Watching gallops is not overly exciting though, as you only pick them up from around the 200 metre mark and then it can be hard to spot the one you have backed. Very little action compared to harness, but then different strokes for different folks!
-
Yes I was talking about gallops here in NZ rather than globally. From the thoroughbred side, I am sure it is almost impossible to make money racing a galloper as the training costs have always been much higher than harness. Why do people like watching the gallops rather than harness??
-
Think you are right Greg. Sad but reality, and from the comments on the thoroughbred side, no different with the gallops. Personally, never been able to understand why gallops has been more popular with people, as gallops racing is very boring compared to harness lol. Hopefully things can be maintained enough for participants to remain in the industry

Only Watched race 2 today at Palmy as meeting wasn’t that inspiring. However with 2 minutes to go the win and place tote pools both had approx$2,700 invested in them! When the stake money for the race was $9k it is showing that Central Disticts harness racing is totally stuffed and is only being semi held together by Michael House’s number of horses. Unfortunately there are so many Harness Racing clubs that are on lifelines that are not going to last forever, and future for these clubs is terminal when there is bigger all punting going on! Auckland stuffed, Forbury stuffed, Palmy stuffed and I am sure there are many clubs that will be folding in the next five years max. The TAB isn’t really worried as they make the most money on sports betting and if harness disappeared they wouldn’t be crying!
-
Yes I did mean the AllStars because at some stage They will sell off their stable land for development in Rolleston and they would’ve had enough. Not easy to get horses into the AllStars stables either and don’t ever query what they have charged you for!
-
The Group Races are a big financial loss running then for the clubs but they do need them. Reality is that while the Blue and Silver are around in numbers, racing in NZ will struggle. At some stage they will reduce numbers and hopefully it is not too late
-
You are right Gammalite, owners could race them in Oz without selling. The beauty of Oz is that there are more races for the open class horses in the different states
-
The inters were always going to be a bit controversial this year due to having so many runners from the one stable. great to have the ozzies over but they have been outclassed really in the pacers. The final is going to be dominated by the team driving and there is no way that the All Stars arent going to be lengths better than the others. Forbury park was more interesting racing last night even though the fields were small. There will be more open class horses sold overseas after the Interdominions have finished without doubt. No money for most of the pacers in NZ that raced in the heats compared to OZ racing where they will shine.
