  1. A heck of a lot more on opening in NZ
  2. Saw that Greg, but for the two mares still to be racing they must’ve been served after approx 24th November last year that seems pretty late doesn’t it?
  3. Racing them in foal when they are 3 or 4 months, you wouldn’t think would be that comfortable for the embryo! imagine being the foal and having your mum running aro7nd the training track and then the race track every day at speed. You would think it would be kind of upsetting wouldn’t you! Its a wonder the animal rights activists have not co e down on it? Bugger, RIU might now do that! Na, do busy chasing their tails, while they have got jobs! Think they will be eliminating some of them soon!i
  4. Months ago it was announced on Trackside that RocknPop and Vinnie Rulz we’re both racing in foal! I note that both are still racing and in at Waimate today. Wondering how long they were allowed to race for before they were retired from racing in NZ? We all know that mares normally race better when they are in foal, but you would think that if they were 4 months or so that the embryo would’ve grown sufficiently large to be a hindrance to the mares racing ability. Certainly couldn’t see a human female sporting ability improving when she is 4 months pregnant, quite the opposite!
  5. The NZ TAB have an absolute cheek to be even asking for anything from the taxpayer. Every week they take money from the NZ taxpayer and are not actually providing a helluva lot for it! it is a betting platform where people offload money and they just take a per centage!! Why on earth are they going cap in hand to the taxpayer asking for them to just give them money ?? It beggars belief that they need money, when they will make money each and every week by the way they operate! Is the NZ TAB saying that this costs are higher than what they are netting and are therefore losing money??? I seriously doubt it and if it is then do not expect the taxpayer to give you anything! Hardly an essential service, button down the hatches and ride it out with all of the other businesses!!!!!!
  6. What a shocking indictment for racing when the TAB is asking for a government handout after a couple of weeks of the Coronavirus issues!! FFS, this monopoly have basically been arseholes towards many of their loyal customers over the past few years!!! The staff that are employed by the TAB are mostly on extremely large salaries and have no problem with taking their large pay home each and every week, while the racing people that provide their incomes struggle. Now as soon as things change they want the NZ taxpayer to give them money so that they can keep operating!!! You have to be kidding don’t you? Seriously, TAB do what all other business around the world have to do, and sort it out yourself!! Now you will realise that it is not that nice when things change and you are not receiving as much income as you were previously, and yet you want others to just give it to you!!! The NZ government hopefully shouldn’t give them a cent and let them operate like all other business has to. Staff take a wage cut and get paid what is more like what you should receive!
  7. Not sure who you are referring to? If it was “The Brodster”, no he won’t be On course as currently overseas, due to be returning soon and then I have to hide at home for a couple of weeks! Hopefully racetracks won’t be closed for racing as nothing on TV to watch as totally over the media in Oz with this virus thing!! Apartment we are in hasn’t even got Sky Racing 2 which has the trots on and can’t be bothered watching the gallops or dogs on Sky Racing 1!!! Yawn! As bad as watching mile racing!
  8. Personally I love the slow class races more so than tight class racing, selfishly though due to easier to punt on! Unfortuntelyfor Waimate and the other clubs that are going to be racing without oncourse patronage, they could well be losing a lot of money by running them. Not sure why so many owners and trainers want to run their horses on the grass, as it always appears a lot more of a gut buster racing on the grass! There are always stragglers on the grass that you do not often see on the Addington surface. Yes I know they go a lot harder on the clay tracks, but for some strange reasons trainers line up horses on the grass when clearly the horses action doesn’t warrant it!
  9. The virus restrictions and rules and regulations effects haven’t come in yet. Hopefully things will come right sooner rather than later, or the industry just like all businesses will suffer! Many owners with investments in the sharemarket and with business interests will not have the disposable income to be able to shell out thousands of dollars per month, to have horses racing for stakes that make it totally uneconomic to do so!!!!! There will be many trainers who just won’t have enough horses in work to make it pay unfortunately.
  10. There is a place for a harness program and it would not need to be that expensive to produce. Personally don’t know why they would need 3 presenters like they had and the cost of airfares etc. every week wouldn’t have been that cheap. Canterbury is the Mecca for harness racing so why was it not filmed in ChCh where the knowledge is based and has the most interest? Whiteman, you are correct, this virus thing is going to be hugely costly for the industry and whether it can recover successfully when things settle down is questionable, especially in the North Island where owners are few and far between.
  11. Why was The Box Seat canned does anyone know? was it due to the cost of production or because most of the content was a yawnfest, or did the AllStars pull their sponsorship of the show? Trackside promised a better service when they started to charge and yes we are lucky nowadays to have 2 channels dedicated to racing! However, Trackside could be run a helluva lot better than it currently is and has been since being charged for it! To retain the current punters Trackside needs to put all the crap meetings with no turnover from overseas on the one channel or even dispose of it as it is not required.

    Waimate

Basically no trainers there nowadays. It does make sense to race at Addington. Will save the TAB some money I would say without having to pay some staff however I would be surprised if people are going to be offloading their hard earned on horses with many of them on very suspect incomes over the next month or two. Not much else on so watching the harness might be quite popular though. Let is all hope that this nasty virus gets sorted very soon as it will not end well for the racing industry if it isn’t.
  13. Hand sanitizer does very little in respect of stopping the transferring of the virus. What it does is puts a barrier on your hands but the bugs will sit on top of the barrier and then you touch your mouth with the virus so despite you thinking you are helping, it doesn’t really do anything! Not saying don’t do it as the experts say to but think about it?
  14. The discretionary punting dollar is going to be effected hugely if they don’t find the cure shortly. Scientists on the GC say that both the HIV and Malaria medication seems to be able to kill the virus must be on animals so far and trial on humans about to start on the ones that have the virus. NZ has not got many cases identified yet but the govt. is making decisions now that will shut down Racing in the future! Who can afford or want to have a horse in work without the opportunity to race ?? Many owners and punters with money in equities will also have had their wealth eroded significantly and will be wondering whether they can afford to have a horse or two In Work if their income is dwindling or non existent! Yes Racing is going to suffer unfortunately and so many are reliant on it for a living! We all just need to hang in there and keep safe and Hopefully getting thru the other side is not that far away.
  15. Might be the virus! This corona virus is going to continue to wreak havoc on business and people’s finances. Will be very surprised if racing in NZ is going to be happening in 4 weeks, and if it is, there probably won’t be any punters allowed on course! Currently overseas and that means that once back we will have to go into self isolation! I sort of already have even over the past few months anyway! How long can NZ racing afford not to have racing being held I wonder? How long will owners want to be paying trainers without the opportunity to race their horses?? Interesting times ahead for one and all!!
  16. Very good question Rusty.
  17. They should put up or shut up! This is full blown BS! The 2 that initially it was about are the leading drivers in NZ and United States and they are both still driving! If there was anything concrete then let us see the concrete evidence rather than just wanking on about further charges being laid when no one is currently stood down or has been fined for anything! Why should the charged have mounting legal expenses going to overpaid barristers when most of them are on the bones of their arses???
  18. This so called Operation Inca is just dragging on and on! It has cost many in the industry a lot both financially and to their reputations. If it was an open and shut case, then why have they not been tried by now and if they were guilty of these charges then why on earth are they still allowed to be applying their trade a couple of years down the track??? Yes there have been a few drugs charges but seriously did it require headlines about properties being raided as if it was the crime of the century!! Personally think that it is totally over the top and it does not reflect very well on the Racing Integrity Unit when they are allowing the NZ Police and legal system to allow this to affect the people that are actually giving them a living!!!! The defendants are somehow shelling out mega bucks to lawyers to defend charges that should not have been made or should’ve been handled by the RIU but apparently that appears to be beyond them!!! Nothing personal at all with any that work for the RIU but there have been many decisions made in recent years that have just been just plain detrimental to an industry that is bleeding badly at the moment!
  19. There are 9 on the management team! I am sure they are all raking in big salaries for doing two fifths, and what they are doing is not working! Does anyone know what the current situation is in regards to the apartments and whether the Banks are knocking on the door yet, and if everyone is going to be able to settle on them, once they are finished. Seriously, how on earth such a shambolic effort has been able to achieved is very hard to fathom, when making big money in the Auckland property market over the past decade has been a formality???
  20. Yes I read about that online before. Never heard of him or his mates but that is because I don’t give a rats about American racing. Geez isn’t it interesting that they were using Viagra is able to cover up performance enhancing drugs! Apart from having horny horses racing in NZ, you would wonder if any NZ trainers have ever used Viagra to cover up performance enhancing drugs? Would be a pretty cheap way of doing it I would suggest, not that I have ever needed them or even know what the cost of Viagra is!
  21. Yeah, it how long will there be racing there for? They can not afford to keep providing good stakes without enough horses to race. Stakes drop and the small group of owners will start dropping off and further endanger the prospect of racing in the North Island continuing!
  22. Currently overseas so didn’t watch any races from Palmerston North today. However, on the face of it, would seem to have been an extremely poor racing day for the Michael House stable with only one win out of the 8 races, and dominated by the CD horses! Wonder why they didn’t perform as well as normal? Would not be profitable for owners without winning up there, but they will probably bounce back second day and clean up!!
  23. Who on earth are most of them apart from the odd one that is known slightly. Seriously, if this was being run correctly as a business it would be put into voluntary liquidation! Does anyone at all see any light at the end of the very dark tunnel?
  24. You have to be kidding that Auckland can only card a 5 race meeting!!!!!! Auckland trotting is totally stuffed,! Must still be a bunch of imbeciles in charge and making stupid decisions! Why has it got to be so bad when there is so much money in Auckland? They have quite good stakes but not many want to race horses up there any more! There are several reasons that we know, but FFS who is the dickhead that still thinks that racing over a mile is WORTHWHILE! Whoever is doing the programming needs his head read, as mile racing is just plain boring and is not conducive to punting on!!!! No more mile racing ever anywhere!!
  25. I can’t before lunchtime NZ time, as now on Oz time!
