Wondering why Mark Purdon was driving for Tom Bagrie anyway? If it was his own trained horse I am sure he would’ve been more urgent!
-
Well done Globe. I will take the Lad bit as a compliment, thankyou.
-
It will at least save the ATC from having to,pay, out a 4th stake, so some merit in it!
-
Lol wouldn’t even waste my time watching a single race. You deserve what you get if you get a hiding punting over a mile.
-
Good to see Paul Nairn trained trotter win the Dominion. Humble and talented trainer and good to see the money shared more amongst different owners this Cup week.
-
1980m is Sugar Cane’s distance but personally think it has been a bit average last two starts and this would be a better field. Probably be first out but wouldn’t be confident of it hanging on. $4 place fair money if you wanted it. Be very tough for Jerry from the usual unruly over the sprint. They will be running along and he is going to have to put in a huge run to go around and run in the money. Good luck to everyone with your punting if you are having a go today!

Totally agree, the so-called system of checking out everyone that wants to gamble $1k is blatantly ridiculous!!!!! $1k in today’s money, is petty cash. With the amount of money that the government spends on being big brother, you can’t tell me that they need to keep an eye on every person who wins $1k?. The Government should have a better idea of who 8s doing crime and needs to clean money, rather than just joe average that wants a bet!

Tonka, if TAB agency staff are not capable enough of using discretion, then they shouldn’t be employed by the TAB.
-
What I do know is that TAB agency turnover is substantially down since the 1st August AML Act $1k limit was brought in, I have it on very good authority. You might say then that the Act is working, but I would say that many punters just can not be bothered anymore and you can not blame them. Just not worth the effort now for many of the larger investing punters and hasn’t been for quite awhile now with the restrictions on and many of the fixed odds being too short. The challenge is not there now and everything is weighted in favour of the TAB. Stand alone TAB agencies are a dieing breed and this new rule has further enforced that. RIP.
-
When the TAB brought in the $1k limit rather than the $10k as per the AML Act at the time, they did it to have control over who could bet with them rather than any money laundering. Why does a punter need to show ID and tell the TAB Agency that they have bet $1k with them, when the TAB staff already know them. You are advising TAB central and then they can restrict you to buggerall. Havent got a problem whatsoever if the TAB suspects that I am doing something illegal, and investigate me, but the way they have implemented this blanket policy is just another totally stupid decision. FFS, $1k in this day and age, is petty cash! Why would someone bother trying clean money by putting it thru the TAB with a fair chance they will lose it????? The TAB have no problem taking $10k bets from some punters and that is fine because they are losing punters, but anyone that consistently wins, NOOOOO!!
-
Firstly, when you are a heavily restricted punter, to get a bet on of any reasonable amount was extremely difficult and going to different agencies to do this, felt like you were doing something dishonest. Secondly, the AML Act with the $1k limit is a load of bollacks. The TAB is saying that any of their punters who win $1k could be a money launderer and put on $1k or more could mean you are trying to clean money. Anyone with half a brain can work out that it has nothing to do with money laundering at all, but total control by the TAB. Haven’t got a problem with the TAB potting me if they think I am money laundering, however why on earth should the TAB have the right to know who it is that is gambling with them? God, it was hard enough to get decent money on without them knowing who you were, but telling them just enables them to restrict you to next to nothing!
-
That is great if the turnover is up! BEar in mind that 4 of the races Had 4 place divs on the fixed odds that probably encouraged some. Of the $2m how much was paid back to the punters? I did see a couple of the races win and place tote pools and they didn’t seem that flash and they would’ve included Ozzie I would say. I hope the TAB turnover does increase as that is what they need as it has been declining substantially since August 1st AML Act BS was brought in for fixed odds betting. Personally I can not be bothered offloading at the moment while the $1k limit is still in place. Just not worth my while and the challenge is not there anymore due to being treated like a criminal and a money Launderer. Just got too difficult to get enough on and the fixed odds are mostly unders until too late. The TAB needs punters far more than I need the TAB!!

JJ, not negative at all, quite the opposite. The fact that other owners and trainers apart from the AllStars connections were able to get some of the bigger stakes is a major plus for harness racing not a negative. Watching the OZzies excitement after the Cup win and the Keasts excitement was far more enjoyable than having the camera focussed on the same AllStars owners jumping up and down and kissing each other every year. Yes the AllStars owners invest a lot of money into their horses however so do most other owners and get bugger all back out it. If this continued they would be lost to the industry and with very few new owners coming thru, the industry is stuffed.

The Fixer had every chance last year and was belted by Nat as we all know. Didnt think the Fixer should’ve been as short as what it was. Spankem was always a bit of a risk of not going 3200m as good as the shorter distances whereas after last years run Cruz Bromac was always going to be a massive chance if he began well, and he did with Blair at the helm. Ranga, do not bother.
-
Although it was the AllStars that won the NZ Cup it was good to see different owners win the cup, even though they were OZzies. Was interesting that Purdon said that he would’ve liked more time with the horse bearing in mind he had gone 2 very good races since he has been back in ChCh and was very unlucky last year. Wouldve been enough time to have blood spinning no doubt.
-
Have been out and about and watching races on the phone. The best part of it so far is when the AllStars horses get beaten! Just brilliant to watch the winning owners outside the AllStars owners winning races and being jubilant. Totally sick watching the same owners plundering the stakes and just so refreshing to see the excitement and joy of Darren Keast and his father Jamie Keast after their second win for the day. Sure beats the other puke material!! Lol

The point being that people are going to be a helluva lot better off than people who are racing horses without doubt.
-
Basil , to be fair the median price of a house in Christchurch in 1999 was $175k and 20 years later it is $450k so an increase of $257% over that 20 years. On that basis the stake going on your $14,939 should be $38,393 so effectively a extremely low increase in stake compared to someone who has invested in a property, Basil.

Hunter, just can not be bothered with Ranga trying to disrupt this great site. So I am going to not post for awhile and maybe his antagonistic, split personalities may settle down in time.
-
Not sure, I don’t profess to be an expert on old races etc, however I do know that He won some sort of Junior or probationary Championship and read about him coming from a non racing family. Ranga, is only here to disrupt BOAY as the Darkside is basically gone into hibernation. I can not be bothered with him anymore as he has some major issues! Got better things to do in life than be called a liar by an imbecile!! Going to give posting away on here for awhile, while he is still around. Dont care if I have said things to him which I wouldn’t normally, however I am not going to waste my time with him again! Keep up all the good work all you other good contributors.?
-
Ranga, go take a running jump. Graeme Ward won a Junior Or probationary drivers Championship at Addington. Go and argue with yourself and if you call me a liar again I will take it further.
-
Ranga, think what u want about Brodie. Half the time you are sensible and then the other half you are a drop kick, just trying to be an antagonist for the sheer hell of it. Brodie does not tell lies and the fact you constantly try and call me a liar is blatantly juvenile and pointless. Pull your head in Ranga as you achieve nothing but show that you are lacking something.
-
Ranga, you are being a drop kick! it was meant to read BEST, not rest. Just leave it, you argue for the flippen hell of it. Go and take your meds, and get some sleep, you need it!
-
FFS Ranga! Get a life, no lies told. The point was that top junior are being lost out of the industry. I don’t keep records or can be bothered with that detail but I do remember him being a champion Junior driver and ai was right on that accord. Graeme Ward was the top Junior of his year in Canterbury where the strongest competition is. Graeme Ward WON a Juniors championship against the rest of all the Juniors or probationary in NZ. If you want to be such a PEDANTIC TOSSER, you are not worth Replying to!!! ?
-
Correct., so how did you know that it was going to be leaving Craig Buchan’s training ?
