Farewell Purdons, Results Tonite??

Well,

Wonder what to expect tonight? Runner in first race went poorly, could hardly pace, finished last?
I suppose they will win the major races with so many runners, so team driving will be to the fore.
I have heard that a few owners may be looking for other trainers, which to me would be a good thing.
Anyway, whatever you think of the stable, an era is about to come to an end.

Gidday Newmarket, Through the threads I can see Hardly any support for the ALLstars , your NZ Champions?

very deflating in a way, and even get downvotes if say they do Fabulous (which is true) and aim to get as many runners into placings as possible (obviously true)

I cheer for our locals e.g COLT THIRTY ONE the other day in QLD christmas Cup but it was beaten by an ALLstars horse. I admire their attention to detail and records galore. ?? and suck up the loss ok.

My question is (because you have a lot of posts so know something) with the Not a Lot of love for the champions through all these threads,

DO you think they appreciate the Team WALLER in the galloping field? What is your opinion? He tends to have a lot of runners in one race and no doubt a lot of 'riding instructions' bandy around from Chris. Does NZ appreciate him?

I think Chris Waller does a great job.
As for the Purdons, I sit on the fence. I used to think more of the stable until the spinning stories came out, that got a cross mark for me.
But yes, I think it is positive for NZ harness when the stable departs, I am sure some of the horses will go to other stables, so it will make NZ racing more even.
Auckland have had 6 races already, All Stars yet to salute, even with red hot favs. Maybe this will be the norm?

Fair comment, was just sort of wondering from a galloping point of view, how someone felt. thank-you.

Could be a positive if some mid range stables can go bigger professionally (as opposed to hobby trainers)

Arna Donnelly is standing up in the north with fine performances from 3 runners tonight.

On that performance you would place a horse with her,

fingers crossed the high standards remain once the greatest stable departs. Victoria racing continued without Vinnie Knight  ok, (and WEIR at the gallops lol...)

Yes, Arna doing well, as are some other small trainers.

The usual classless comment from someone whose own mother wouldn't miss him.

FWIW (and I realise that's not much), I will miss the All Stars a lot, as will anyone who likes to see horses reach their full potential. The consequences will be enormous — forget NZ pacers winning regularly in Oz, and be prepared for the return of 4 minute-plus Cups. Sure, some mediocre talents will get their chance to pick up a few undeserved scraps, and Brodie will see more 'value' in big races, but that's a poor return on what will be lost.

What I will guarantee is that most owners and trainers in NZ thought it was a great day when it was announced that the All Stars were pulling up sticks!

Many  wont say so but it is a very well known fact that are totally over racing for the scraps in the big races!

Yes the AllStars have an unbelievable record for winning races and do a great with their horses, no one can deny that!

Of course they are going to be missed, as they wont be plundering all the major stake money year in and year out!

We all have an opinion on whether what they were doing was always legal or not, however what ever they were doing clearly worked!

As a racing point of of view, I do firmly believe that owners and trainers will now view things a lot lot more positive going forward.

Will be very interesting to see how well Hayden Cullen goes and jf he gets the same results seem he has been watching most things that have been going on there?

Harness racing in general in recent years have been running a lot of very average meetings as a rule,so if the standard at the top drops off not sure if that's such a good thing, however as in all races weather it be a maiden race in Manawatu or a big race at Addington someone's gotta win,so I guess from now on someone else will have their day in the sun.

Said like a true socialist!  Knock off the Tall Poppy and everyone else gets a bit more.

As far from a Socialist as can be Chief.

Not Tall Poppy either, just stating fact!

For Harness Racing to survive in the future, we have to have horses, owners, trainers and punters!!

The stake money for harness racing is quite pathetic nowadays when you compare it to previous decades.

You were racing for more back in the 1980’s and to be racing for stakes of $7k  is just ludicrous.

You are just going to attract people to racing to own horses when they are almost guaranteed to be losing $10 to $20k per horse per year, and this is what has been going on in recent years.

Now with the opportunity to own a horse with a chance of earning good money in the bigger stake races, there is some chance.

What I like is seeing stake money going to different people who are also shelling out  thousands every month for having a horse racing.

Seriously, do harness enthusiasts really enjoy seeing the one set of colours dominating races????
I certainly didnt!!
