Racing NZ Bosses Consider Radical Changes

When did it rain? Saturday night after the abandonment?

Hence the question mark.  You know one of these "?"????

Wasn't it said in Guerins article?

Regardless doesn't matter if God did it from on high or a mere mortal did it with a substandard irrigation system.  There is no one given the state of the soil structure that you can irrigate evenly unless you flood it and then maintain an even moisture content by irrigating frequently.  They don't have the money nor the staff to do that.

There was 1mm of rain overnight on Friday reported by the club. Hardly a factor.

Can you believe that measurement?  I'm light of everything else?  Was the 1mm delivered evenly?

Regardless water isn't the fundamental problem although it is the only way to ameliorate it.  That is by maintaining a soft track at all times.

Sorry HR I can't quite get the gist of what you are saying.  Private enterprise didn't run the schools or the water or the Hospitals(well not the vast majority of them) or the polytechs

But I drove to Christchurch today to attend a race meeting(I had left by the time of your triumph sorry Pam!) and I passed literally hundreds of trucks carting all manner of stuff(Logs, milk, frozen goods, general freight) I also on multiple occasions passed close by a perfectly good railway line between the Coast and Christchurch and wondered to myself why NZ Rail (a government organisation) is not able and much cheaper to cart those goods.

And if there are hundred to and from the Coast there will be thousands on SH1 (which coincidentally also runs close to a railway line).  If I ever need a to know why private enterprise works better I need only think of that.

Let me enlighten you.

The big trucking companies pay 100,000's of 'donations' to the main political parties. They oppose rail investment with a passion.

Btw offering one erroneous example is hardly...compelling.

I'm not wanting to get into an argument about private enterprise etc, but I do think NZ is the most backward country in the world when it comes to using trains, and public transport in general. I'm in the UK at the moment and I must have used at least 16 long distance trains in France and the UK over recent weeks, not to mention dozens of London trains. It is such an efficient means of travel and transport. NZ has some of the worst roads in the world and makes the worst use of trains. People really have no idea how backward NZ is. Not to mention cheese three times the price that it is in the UK. We do get ripped off.

Duh!  Population size and density helps to make trains cost effective.

Geez the Topic is about RACE tracks NOT rail tracks!!!

Radical?... who on earth put that word in. NZTR wouldn't know what the word meant never alone how to spell it. It seems NZTR is trying to deflect blame on to the club. NZTR is in charge of racing therefore they should have had someone qualified on the ground doing inspections and other duties ensuring safety of all participants.

If they want be radical how about standing up to the TAB particularly on the televising of racing. NZTR need to extract Trackside TV from TAB setting up a stand alone media organization which would make TAB easier to close down or sell off.

NZTR should be pushing the changes to legislation to allow clubs to run their own pools which can be combined with marketing efforts.

Doomed is in the UK, was just wondering what a NZ block of cheese is worth, or put another way, what it is selling for.

Yeah cause that's what he wants to be doing whilst on holiday , comparing dairy product prices , leave the man alone .

I'm in chch and about 10 mins away from the track. Friday night we had steady rain,  a lot more than 1mm.

my friends had a table of 10@ 3k. The food was appalling,  a medallion of steak 2inches across. Pathetic they said,  they won't complain because no-one in the office gives a toss.

Heads should roll,  but they will settle for excuses.

Agree 100%.

But I doubt it will happen.

The prospect of NZTR interfering even more in club affairs horrifies me.

Given their abysmal record of inept decisions and profligate financial behaviour, plans going forward showing complete lack of vision....I could go on..but they should stick to their knitting and take a hard look at their own organisation.

Yeah a totally inept organisation run by clowns thinks it can do a better job?  BS (very apt initials) thought he had sorted it out!!! Please

I don't get invited into committee rooms anymore, believe it or not it happened once, or more than once, but not now, old farts in okanui's and thongs with knock off sunglass are poison.........but if I see Saundry anywhere on a racecourse here, I'll give him your regards and an ear bashing from me.........Saundry sadly was NZ 's loss and Australia's gain the day he lobbed over there, of course it's now reversed, so you got your revenge.
