  1. Rarely does racing get coverage on tv1 news, and when it it does it's for all the wrong reasons, real shame the events of today, but I guess everyone went home in one piece, most of the younger crowd there for a big social outing or there for the fashion stakes, both of no interest to me.
  2. Be interesting to see how many trainers stay or go home with the rescheduling
  3. Crickey nothing like a feed of tripe,
  4. Two of real stalwarts of the coast racing, pity Frank wasn't around to see his horse matinee win its maiden,Don stood Hula dan as a sire at some stage.
  5. Yes I remember that day, had the joy of backing that winner that was tailed off with a lap to run, a horse called our spice at 60s fixed odds, trained by Don Fuge, always supported the coast meetings, and from memory trained a grand national winner in stormy night, was many years ago, 70s maybe.
  6. A few years back they loaded the horses in reverse order was a hokitika meeting, remember watching the race and thinking something did add up, only on coast, inside horses started on outside stalls, certainly won't happen there anymore.
  7. Very unfortunate that ones that weren't so much conned, just had to trade their souls to keep employment and provide for their family's or keep a lifestyle, that's so wrong, and now to hear of some paying the ultimate price.
  8. Very tough decision to make, especially when the pressure was coming from all corners, shame on schools for pushing the barrow as well.
  9. Bit sad when people get pushed into a corner for various reasons, and now find out many untruths, I managed to to ward the jab off, stayed at my job till the deadline was forced, alls well and things worked out.
  10. No one likes to see any horses or riders harmed due to the actions of the jockeys, but in a competitive game it's going to happen in some form, and I'm sure not on purpose. Certainly never got to see the best of oxford aunt, or her I'll fated son of zac, very promising horse.
  11. There a name from the past, remember him riding connan handy horse in his day, trained by Eddie Low.
  12. The good ole days, the best ole days I reckon,
  13. Top win by that horse, the favourite certainly not helped by the wide draw, worked the whole way, bookies probably be happy, good to see aegon back in form, didn't even know he was over there.
  14. No givens in this game, no matter how well bred they are.

    Help!

Was actually the Jarden mile, with the southern sprinter knight invader running the quinella.

    Help!

Also couldn't forget Johnny alone winning the big sprint up there, think he was by blue vermillion, trained at timaru, and paid a big price

On thinking some more may have actually been greymouth.

I think many moons ago the late Ray Harris taking Brutus and Scoth Mist up to Auckland after previously racing at Reefton, my memory not what it used to be, so stand to be corrected.
  19. The old haricot chops, another forgotten gem that most supermarkets don't sell, super tasty.
  20. Wonder if Costco do whole carcass, see their bulk mince 11.99kg
  21. Yes and whole legs to, not chump off ones that supermarkets sell, always missing the rump, on supermarket prices the two whole legs would around 120$ plus some,, let alone any of the rest, certainly a good buy.
  22. Whole lamb looks good buy, is that the whole carcass, what sort of weight, the only cheaper way is to buy on the hoof, rules do state you must keep the animal for x amount of time before slaughtering, a job in its self, some way the eyes are good eating, they see through the week, sweet breads really nice, and brains good to, not such a fan of frys and hearts.
  23. Pleased to meat you, and meat to please you, the old butchers phrase, there are usually a jolly bunch with good sense of humour, despite one of the lowest paid trades people, now there as rare as goose teeth, just have to look on trade me to see how many wanted, plenty of ex ones around all in better paid employment, keep those flaps honest John and have a trip down memory lane, will get two off a whole lamb and if there small roll two into one with homemade stuffing. Best and tastiest roast, not great tor the cholesterol though.
  24. Yep and they still are I can vouch for that, another little gem is cross cut blade, if you can get a nice mid to tail end piece of steak it frys up a treat, quite tender and super tasty, bit cheaper to, shame the small butcher shop few and far between, none why I live, days of a free sav or cheerios long gone, regulations put a stop on that, sad ole world.
  25. Yeah the old venison deer to, farm stuff fairly mild and ok, but wild stuff not for me to, lamb or even better hogget flaps very underrated stuffed and slow roasted in an oven bag cant beat them, get a nice crunchy skin almost like crackling.
